Or stay was just what we needed to unwind and enjoy the ocean view. The house was exactly what we needed and everything was there for us. Great getaway for sure!
We had a wonderful stay at Fortunes Rocks — perfect location, great privacy, and beautiful views. Stephanie, the property manager, was fantastic and very responsive. The house had everything we needed. Fire on the beach and great times all around. We’d definitely return!
We booked this property similar to others in the past where we wanted to be on the ocean or as close to it as possible. The location was ideal for us. It is about 10 minutes from town and plenty of things to do in every direction. We have relatives in Old Orchard so the proximity was good. We did day trips to Portland, Kittery, Cabelas and more. The house was comfortable and easily accommodated the six of us. Initially I had some concerns with the construction that was taking place on both sides of us but that ended up not being an issue. The owner (Stephanie) was very accommodating and made sure that the new steps down to the beach were installed prior to our arrival. The views of the ocean and the beach are amazing and the waves crashing against the seawall at high tide brings the ocean as close to you as possible. While enjoying coffee in the upstairs sitting room the waves are coming in right below you....amazing views. The beach is clean and the scavenging for sea glass and shells was fruitful. To our surprise there was even a kayak and a surf board available for use as well as plenty of beach chairs and an umbrella. Could I find a few little things to complain about, perhaps, but I think that is the case no matter where you stay. We came for the view and to be on the ocean and this location so met our expectations that nothing else mattered. We are already discussing our next visit and this is where we will come back to again and again.
This cottage is great for a couple or small family. It’s clean, neat, comfortable, reasonably equipped and nicely furnished. Everything we needed was provided for plus bonus touches like bath robes/slippers. We enjoyed playing games and lounging on the bench couch with the screened windows open to the breeze and the sound of the waves. The enclosed porch with its desk facing the ocean became a favorite spot. Pleasant if one must work and pleasant if one wanted to write or draw. Savoring sea and sky from the soft chairs in the master bedroom sitting area coupled serenity with leisure. A comfortable bed amply supplied with pillows and linens helped us drift off accompanied by the song of the sea. We appreciated the room darkening curtains - a necessity as the sun rose early. The house sits close to the road, a pond and the house next door but we really didn’t notice because we focused on the ocean. Metal dock stairs allowed direct access over a sea wall to the beach (a fair drop) in front of the house. Beyond a rocky swath an expanse of sand stretches to greet the waves – perfect for long walks. At low tide a short walk to the near end of the beach passed a favored surfing spot to seaweed covered rocks where we explored tide pools. High tides did approach the sea wall, limiting the beach area at times, but we could still enjoy the sights from Adirondack chairs beside the house. Our stay was delightful and we would happily return to this cottage in the future.
