Well cared for and charming cottage with vintage Hawaii vibe.

Cottage was equipped with everything you would need and more. It was immaculately clean and thoughtfully decorated. The property is quiet and peaceful. I very much enjoyed the large covered deck. The three bedroom Ohana is on the same property, but the layout and landscaping makes it private and quiet. Yes, as one reviewer mentioned, you’ll find that Waimea is cooler at night…. In Hawaii, If you are staying at higher altitude, then you’ll have cooler nights for sleeping. The cottage is equipped with nice down comforters so you’ll have a cozy nights sleep. Personally I love Waimea. It’s a beautiful area that is so completely different than the coast. It’s a great place to stay if you want some variety from the beach, yet It’s only about 15 minutes drive to Hapuna Beach. Wherever you stay on the big island, you’ll be driving. Waimea is a nice jumping off spot to drive to Hawi or along the coast down to the Hilo side. Laura is the epitome of hospitality and customer service! She’s a terrific host and an excellent and prompt communicator. I would definitely stay here again.

The perfect place.

The Red Ohana represents true aloha. Laura was so kind and attentive. The home was clean and a comfortable space to return to after exploring Waimea, Honokaa, Hawi, and Spencer Beach (just 15 minutes away!). We will definitely be back. Mahalo!

Love Waimea!

Great location just minutes from Waimea and 10 minute drive to coast and beaches. Beautiful green hills of Kohala mountain and great Waimea restaurants, farmers markets. Laura is great host, very responsive and easy to work with. Great comfy bed and pillows, with Hawaiian touches throughout the interior.

Peaceful home in a great location

We enjoyed a week long stay in this home. The location is perfect, close to beach and other scenic areas on the island. The house includes a private deck with a grill and comfortable seating. We enjoyed watching the geckos. Inside, the house has nice furnishings and a well stocked kitchen for cooking. The grounds include fruit trees. The boogie boards, beach towels, and beach chairs came in handy. The host was responsive to questions.

Beyond Expectations

At the top of my five star ratings was Laura, the property manager. She knows this island very well and readily shared her thoughts. More than a property manager, she was the best concierge for our group of Girl Scouts, moms and younger siblings.

Beautiful property but you will freeze if you go in winter!

Laura was great- super nice and great communication. The grounds are beautiful and well kept but my family was SO cold that part of my family went down by the beach to book an additional hotel there just to keep warm. By the way- looking at pictures in the listing- the beach is 45 minutes away It’s not a beach view.. You are literally up in the mountains. During our stay it was literally 55 degrees in the home and there is no heaters other than a space heater for one room. The rooms smell of mildew due to the dampness. All that said, again, Laura was very sweet but if we would’ve know that going to Hawaii we should be packing sweats and coats AND for the price.. we were sadly disappointed. Maybe getting heat in the home would be a great start to having the stay be as nice as looking at it in a pictures. Darn.

Wow!

We've stayed in a lot of vrbo's and the Red Ohana is one of the best! Laura made everything so easy for us from check in through our unplanned extended stay. Our flight was canceled twice due to the grounding of some Alaska Airline planes. The Red Ohana is beautiful! The pictures don't do this place justice! The peaceful setting of Waimea is perfect if you need a quiet break. I would highly recommend this place and will be back for another stay. Thank you!

This lady gets me!!

What a wonderful place to stay! So beautifully decorated and comfortable. We slept soundly, and enjoyed the kitchen, the shower, the TV. The covered lanai was absolutely magical in a light rain storm one day, and we enjoyed our morning coffee there on the comfy lounge chairs every day. The first thing I noticed in the kitchen was all the different options for coffee brewing - french press, keurig pod brewer, grinder, and drip machines - this is when I said 'this lady gets me'! So thoughtful. The garden was lush and beautiful, and the location was close to great restaurants, grocery store, and conveniences. Absolutely wonderful and highly recommend!! Thank you Laura!!

Beautiful Little Red House

This lovely little house is very nicely furnished and well-equipped for a nice vacation stay. We're very comfortable there because it's so clean, up to date and everything works. We like the location in Waimea, away from all the tourists and close to some outstanding restaurants in a nice little town. We don't go on vacation to sit around and watch TV, but after a day of scuba diving, that's how we sometimes relax. When we told our excellent host Laura that the TV didn't work well, she showed up soon with a big new smart TV that allowed us to access all the streaming services we have at home. That's some really top notch service. This was our second stay at Red Ohana and we'll definitely be back next time we go to the Big Island.

Breezy bliss

We spent 4 lovely nights in the 2 bedroom cottage. Cute and well-appointed. Comfy beds and very functional kitchen. We ate in all but one night. Savored a local breakfast as well as dinner at Merriman’s, yoga and the farmers market. Highly recommend for 2 or 3 travelers.

Lovely Cottage in Waimea Town

We had a quiet, relaxing stay at the 2 BR Red Ohana. I particularly appreciated Laura reaching out to us and offering both an early check-in and late check-out since there were no guests departing or arriving immediately before/after our stay. That's hospitality at its finest.

Amazing location, lovely house

Beautiful, clean property and a quiet location. We loved that everything we could have needed was at the house! A short drive to the coast, about 15-20 minutes away. It was convenient to be close to shops as well! The host is wonderful at answering any questions and giving local recommendations. We will definitely be back!

Lovely Property w/ Aloha Touches

The 2 BDRM Red Ohana cottage is a nice little house, well appointed with a cute island theme. Really enjoyed staying in Waimea (shopping/restaurants 5 mins away) with elevation providing a cooler temperature but a quick and easy trip down to the beaches. Fans in the house and cross breezes were adequate (no A/C). The 3 BDRM Red Ohana is a short distance away (shared driveway) but the high vegetation around the deck makes it all very private. Property is near the Waimea/Hawi intersection and while set back from the road a bit, traffic is noticeable ... but generally it dies down to zero in evening/overnight. We love the Kohala area and would stay at the Red Ohana again!

Wonderful Red O'Hana

We chose Red O'Hana to be our Big Island 40th Anniversary home-base and we were not disappointed. Check-in and check-out was beyond easy. This house was well appointed with all of the kitchen-type amenities you could need. And, Laura, our host, gave us 2-days of housekeeping! Located in a private setting just across the street from The Hawaiian Preparatory School (one of Hawaii's most elite) offered a beautiful backdrop for the property. It was very cool to see equestrian students working their horses through jumping exercises. Something you don't see everyday. Being at a higher elevation made every night of sleep super comfortable, as were the bed, and the drive down to the beach every day was easy and scenic. In total, this little gem was the setting for a carefree 7-perfect days that went by at the blink of an eye. Mahalo, again, to Laura and Red O'Hana!

Great house in Waimea

Our group booked both houses on this property. They were both clean with lots of amenities. It's a good loctaion to get to some great beaches and hikes, but it's a big island and you'll be doing lots of driving no matter where you stay.

the best VRBO experience

The Red Ohana was the absolute best VRBO trip I have taken. Laura was a wonderful host! She even brought us creamer the night we arrived so we could enjoy our morning coffee!! The beds were also the most comfortable ever! We both slept perfect every night in the cozy beds!! The Red Ohana is so peaceful and relaxing - just what we were looking for! Laura we can’t thank you enough! We had everything we could possibly need! This is such a well equipped place to stay. Every detail is covered! We will absolutely return for future visits!! Our property is both spacious and private, and the ohanas were the original Parker Ranch caretakers' quarters. Once you explore the island, you will appreciate the mild, temperate climate. The property atmosphere is relaxed and your peace will not be impacted by noisy roosters, coqui frogs, pets, or other animals. Your access to Waimea town is a 5 minute drive and access to beautiful beaches is an easy, scenic 8 minute drive. It would be difficult to find a property with all of features and amenities for the same price elsewhere on the island. Sometimes local residents stay with us for their weekend getaway.
