Wine Country Retreat

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

2 private 1 bedroom cottages on 4 acres

With spectacular views of Sonoma Valley, this cozy getaway is nestled in its own canyon. Our property consist of two one bedroom cabins that are rented together and is set in a pristine pine grove is a custom made, 45 foot lap pool with an 'infinity edge.'

Originally a barn, the 700-square foot lower cottage, completely updated, reportedly contains ceiling trusses taken from the original French Laundry restaurant in Berkeley, California. It has a new kitchen, hardwood floors, a clean all white bath, TV, satellite connection, DVD and stereo, wireless internet connection.

The upper, one bedroom cottage, located approximately 150 feet from the lower cottage, is slightly larger with its own parking and south side deck. This cottage is some 900-square foot and has comfortable charm . Originally built in the 1960s, the cottage has been updated with modern appliances, (full kitchen), satellite TV, DVD, Central heat & A/C, wireless internet access (somewhat slow speed), iron/ironing board. There is a California king-sized bed.

Access this secluded property is via 1000 foot driveway, the first half of which is shared with a neighbor. The cottage is tucked next to The Bouverie, a 523 acre wildlife preserve with no public access. Plenty of wildlife!

Dogs considered with additional deposit, but must be well behaved.

Within 30 minutes of some of the best restaurants in the world, including: The French Laundry, Tra Vigne, Bouchon and The Girl and the Fig. This marvelous retreat is just 75 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge.

Two-night minimum rental is required, three nights on holiday weekends. Special holiday rates may apply. 9% tax imposed by Sonoma County on all vacation rentals (for reference, our certificate number is 953N).

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our experience was truly incredible and beyond our expectations, I highly recommend Sonoma Cottages! We planned a trip to the area for a few days with another couple and were searching for last minute hotel rooms, they were all very expensive and didn't look so good when my boyfriend found these cottages on Air B&B. I was skeptical at first but since it was so last minute we decided to go for it and it was such a good idea! Both cottages are incredibly comfortable with amazing views and great amenities (fully equipped kitchens, beautiful and clean bathrooms, TV+cable and DVD, dining table, balcony and so much more). I HIGHLY recommend this place for anyone searching for high-end luxury stay while enjoying some quite time and privacy. We had exclusive access to the pool and Jacuzzi (it was too cold to use the pool but sitting in the hot Jacuzzi on a chilly evening after drinking wine all day while looking at the stars above and enjoying the peaceful silence around you was just perfect). Only down-side I can think of is that it's half an hour up in the hills between Napa and Sonoma so driving in/out in the dark was something we avoided. For us this was wonderful and we didn't mind because we bought food at the local market in Sonoma and cooked dinner and enjoyed the wine we bought during the day (there is a BBQ and every kitchen utensil needed to prepare a great meal). The view is just breathtaking and it was so convenient to our needs and made our wine-country experience so much better (on the last day we actually wanted to spend more time back at the cottages and relax than go to another tasting!). We are already planning our return next year and have recommended this place to all of our friends.

Great weekend retreat!

These little cottages are tucked away up in the woods and are so calm and peaceful. Exactly as described, and would certainly rent again.

Road to the property is twisty but if you take your time it is fine. Property very clean. We really enjoyed the pool and hot tub.

Perfect Getaway!

  • 4 of 5

This review is long over due. We stayed at Nick's place earlier this year but I failed to review. The place was so perfect for our vacation with my husband and his parents. We each had our own house right next to each other. Both had full kitchen's, as we like to cook. The view was amazing. My only negative was that we couldn't figure out how to use the pool so we could listen to the waterfall and sit in the hot tub. I'm sure we could have called Nick for help but we didn't need it that badly. And it would be nice if the outdoor furniture was upgraded to make it more comfortable to sit outside. But even with those two points, if I were to come back, I would stay here again. Nick was very easy to work with. Loved this place! My favorite part was in the bedroom of the upper house, it had huge windows overlooking the bluff. When I woke up in the morning, I felt like I was waking up outside. It was so beautiful! He has curtains if you'd rather not wake up "outside".

We stayed at Nick's place for a month, and it couldn't have been any better. We booked both the upper and lower cottages, so during the week it was just my wife and I in the upper cottage (the larger of the two), but every weekend we were able to invite guests up and provide them with their own sleeping quarters, which is totally cool. Everyone was blown away at how remote it is, how relaxed it makes you feel, the views and sunsets are amazing. It is not right in the town of Glen Ellen but about a 10 minute drive up into the woods just north of Glen Ellen. This makes it ideal for being close to town but also feeling like you are away from it all. If you like hiking, the Jack London State Park and the Sonoma Valley Regional Park are both excellent, offering acres and acres of dog-friendly hiking trails, which I took advantage of every day. But the best thing about this place is it's seclusion - your only neighbors are the squirrels! This is a place to relax, sit out on the deck, bbq, watch the sunset, sit in the hot tub with a glass of wine, unwind. Can't wait to come back!

Lovely, romantic setting, secluded location

  • 5 of 5

Lovely, romantic setting, secluded location. We loved our stay and would recommend this location for anyone looking for a remote romantic setting. Even though it is secluded, it is so easy to get to the main highway to get to all the other attractions in the area....but you might not really want to see anything else!

The description of the view does not do justice to the real thing. The cottages were clean with the linens and towels fresh.

We did venture out for some wine-tasting at some of the wineries close by. The free bottle of wine at the cottage got us to go to that specific winery and we really enjoyed it.

The suggested local grocery store was not really on if you need staples you are better off going a little further into town.

I have not hesitation recommending this location to others!

The Best

  • 5 of 5

Wow. Wildlife preserve to my left, Sonoma Mountains off in the distance right in front of me beyond far-off twinkling city lights in the valley, and a small vineyard to my right. That is the view from the back deck. Gorgeous. Hummingbirds buzzing around. Hot tub, pool, lovely interior. Just what I needed to completely erase all the dust and dirt of New York City! Couldn't be happier with our stay.
