Overlooking York Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean
Water, water everywhere, I think I’ll have a drink!
Our spacious sun porch overlooking peaceful York Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean offers an ideal spot for a leisurely meal or to linger and watch the yachts and sailboats come and go. Lush lawn and gardens sloping down to the water’s edge provide a tranquil setting for a good book or a refreshing drink, or simply lean back and let the sea breezes ease your mind.
Take a walk on our deep water pier for an even closer look at local lobstermen unloading the day’s catch. The view of the sunset from the pier’s edge is unforgettable. On the other side, you’ll discover York Harbor Beach, perfect for swimming, sunbathing and beach combing. A cliff path wanders atop rocky ledges and offers many great vistas of the crashing ocean waves below.
This 'turn of the century” Victorian estate boosts more than 10,000 square feet of living space featuring a gourmet kitchen, family room, living room, and porch as well as 8 bedrooms, 6 baths and laundry facilities.
What an excellent place to spend your vacation.

This is an absolutely magnificent place to stay! Wonderful views and ambiance!
The views, the gathering space and the comfort of the bedrooms couldn't be surpassed. The heritage of the owners having run a BnB is evident with the little touches all around, The thoughtful decor and availability of the little things like toilet paper, paper towels, soap and laundry soap show a care and hospitality that is very welcoming. The hosts live on the property so are very available for any issues, but are not at all obtrusive.
The only drawback to the property ( and we knew this when we rented) is the size and outfitting of the kitchen. There are plenty of dishes, but be forewarned, if you are cooks, it is a challenge, although a very surmountable one. If you eat out or bring in take-out, getting meals is a breeze.
The kitchen appliances had a bit of a startup issue, but the host was very good about getting those back on track. The laundry was awesome, and came in very handy as we had people rotating in and out and wanted clean sheets and towels.
All in all, it made for a perfectly lovely family reunion/celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary.
Perfect Location is Everything!
Our extended family enjoyed wedding week at York Harborside. The house is huge, with each bedroom either having its own bath or sharing with one other, which is great. It's over 100 years old, with associated pros including a great-looking building (esp. from outside), solid construction with very little noise from room to room, bathrooms in excellent condition (esp. for a seaside house), and enough parking for 7-8 cars in a pinch. Some minor negatives: quaint decor and old-fashioned wallpaper won't appeal to all; cell signal and wifi both pretty weak (with WiFi out completely our last several days, but the owner was working on that). I wouldn't recommend this for people who plan on cooking a lot, especially for a houseful of people and/or guests, as the kitchen isn't proportional to the size of the house - it was added into the common room while the main kitchen remains in the owner's quarters - so is adequate but did draw complaints. (TIP 1: the gas grill is great for expanding cooking capacity, but be sure to close the windows in the two floors above as the rooms will fill with smoke! TIP 2: Bring a large cooler or two for drinks and ice as the side-by-side fridge fills up fast - and spits ice! TIP 3: Beware of the coffeemaker, which overflowed three times - consider bringing your own. TIP 4 (for owner): Provide a broom as the swiffer just doesn't always do the job.)
Enough complaints. The main reason to rent this house is the location! It's the closest house to York Harbor Beach, so you can go to and fro from the beach without packing a car or loading up for the day. You can walk along the cliff walk in either direction to see the harbor or the ocean (and most rooms have unobstructed views of harbor, ocean, or both!). You can walk over to Stage Neck or York Harbor Inn for food or drink, although otherwise it's a pretty quiet part of York - if you want "boardwalk" type shops and action then look elsewhere. This is a place for hanging out on the porch, lawn or pier; either quietly or having a party. We could have hosted the rehearsal dinner here, although interior space is limited if the weather is bad.
We chose Harborside because of the ocean views; beach proximity; plentiful, large comfortable bedrooms; walking distance to wedding at York Harbor Reading Room (also York Harbor Inn), and reasonable price compared to others in the neighborhood. We were very pleased with our decision and would make the same choice again.
Large house in a great location
We rented this house for part of our off-site company conference. It's in a beautiful location - we enjoyed walking out on the pier and watching the sunset. Very close to the beach also. There are plenty of bedrooms and sleeping space which was helpful for our large group. The sun room / kitchen is very pleasant to sit in in the late afternoon as the sun hits it.
Only downside is that there is not a ton of common space (living rooms, big kitchen table, etc.), which may or may not be a priority depending on the group.
Completlely lovely but not very private
This is a beautiful property in a stunning location. Lovely and generous owners. Breathtaking views, convenient location, very comfortable accommodations. We had a wonderful stay but were a little surprised with how public and shared the property is. There is a "Harborside" sign on the exterior of the home that gives the impression it is open to the public so we had many unexpected visitors - more than one who walked right into the home. An easy fix would be removal of the signage. Also the dock leads to a marina with associated shared parking and foot traffic. The marina docked a 100' sailboat which promoted sailimg excursions to the public leading to even more foot traffic. There is a public walkway that borders the back yard which also gets quite a bit of foot traffic. Lastly the home is closed off in part and houses an owner-occupied office and residence so you are essentially sharing the home with separate entrances. None of this was a problem, and we had a great time, but just not what we expected and definitely not what I would call private, so if that is what you are looking for, it's worth noting. Otherwise all high grades.
We were delighted with these guests. They would be welcome back anytime.
We would like to add clarification to some of the comments in their review.
The boating activity at the end of the 240' pier is well separated from the rental property. The owner/operator office on the west end of the building services yachting needs and does not interfere with our visitors.
The nautical Harborside sign on the exterior seemed to cause some problems for these guests. Thanks to their suggestion, we will not be erecting the sign in the future.
The review mentions a 100-foot sailboat, but that is inaccurate. There was a 60-foot Gundalow on the docks at the end of the pier for 2 days. It should be noted that the Gundalow was only there for a very short time and we were able to present the guests with 10 free tickets for a cruise on the Gundalow.
SIMPLY AMAZING SPACE
For our four day wedding weekend, our bridal party and several family members stayed at this rental. It was truly a wonderful location for such a special weekend. We LOVED the space - both inside and out. The rooms were great and the kitchen was modern and convenient. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms clean and well-stocked with towels. Perhaps most importantly, communication with the property owner was outstanding and made coordination for arrival and departure easy and stress free. He has our thanks and our highest recommendation.
What a wonderful vacation spot! It is the perfect location for relaxing or taking a stroll to the beach. The rooms are quaint and the views are spectacular. We loved every minute and can't wait to return. It's a great place to gather with friends or family and spend time together. It's very cozy and feels like home.
Golf, tennis, boating, biking, jogging and strolling all within the York Harbor Neighborhood. Fine restaurants are within walking distance as are several shops and galleries. Excursion boats for lobstering and deep sea fishing are available in York Harbor and arrangements can be made to pick you up at the our 200 ft dock. Just a short drive away you’ll find great shopping at the Maine Factory Outlet Stores in Kittery and L.L. Bean in Freeport. In historic downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire, you can tour Strawbery Banke and the Portsmouth Marine Museum or browse among the many shops and cafes. Great antiquing abounds along Route One to Kennebunkport, the summer residence of President George Bush.
