About Larry Gahagan

My daughter loves to come visit the Island to visit me. I live on the Hilo side of the island. I am a happy, down to earth guy with a welcoming sense of life and living. I am always interested in travel and discovery and trying something new. I enjoy meeting open minded people who enjoy exploring new places and trying new things.

Photography is my passion. If you'd like recommendations on places to shoot on the Big Island, ask me!

Anyone who is easy-going, sociable, and loves to laugh will get along great with me.

I have one daughter living on the mainland. She is a great young professional woman.

I look forward to your stay on the Big Island. I travel the world and love to discover new places and revisit my favorite 'old' places, too.

Why Larry Gahagan chose Kailua-Kona

My condo is a reminder of the earlier years in Hawaiian tourism. Immaculate gardens and pool area are the best in the village. You are within walking distance to village services, shops and numerous restaurants. One of only three royal palaces in the U.S. is just a couple blocks away.

Located in a lush tropical setting, the condo reminds us of old Hawaiian territorial style. Enjoy basking in the Hawaiian sun at the pool or hot tub, or just across the street at the beach areas. There is also a spa on site. Full laundry facilities are located on site for your convenience. The property is centrally located and is a great starting/ ending location for all your site seeing trips. You can buy great Hawaiian fresh fruits at the near by farmers market.

What makes this condo unique

A hot and humid week at the Islander Inn Kilauea-Kona

  • 4 of 5

Our studio (unit 203) was small as expected but very comfortable. The queen size bed is super and we had no problem sleeping well.

The balcony overlooked the pool and was very enjoyable in the evening with a glass of wine. Access to town was extremely easy and getting to the road a great walk through tropical landscaping to the gate. From there to the Flea Market is only two blocks and into town a little more.

Preparing meals is not easy, it's a tiny kitchenette and you might prefer eating at the local restaurants. The BBQs downstairs are used much, however, and thoroughly cleaned every morning - that's another option.

We enjoyed Hugo's on the Rocks, great place to hang out for sunsets, life music, meals and Mai Tai's. All in all, we enjoyed our stay,

One more thing: All staff in the lobby is very nice and helpful.

Great Location!

  • 5 of 5

This was the second time I have stayed in this unit. It was nice that both Cathe and Larry checked in with me, and provided information on the volcanic activity. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Central area in Kona

  • 4 of 5

We did like the stay. It was nice to have a kitchen and though at first it appeared there was only a microwave (we don't ever use this for health reasons) oven, when looking more carefully, the kitchenette was well stocked with various electric pots and pans to make food. All was clean and nothing missing for a nice vacation. Internet passwords were provided, the view from lanai was really nice. We enjoyed our stay and would go again.

Quaint downtown Kona property convenient to restaurants and shopping.

  • 4 of 5

The grounds were well manicured along with the desired Hawaiian flare. Loved the short walk through the foliage to the water. Would definitely stay there again!
