Beautiful home in a beautiful place

  • 4 of 5

We love our visit. The cabin is the end of the line on the road where it sits..no others are around. Its about a 35 minute trip to Brevard but none of these were negatives to us.

It's remote and we like that.

WiFi is sketchy but maybe that's a plus for those who want a break from the tech world. Coffee on the porch surrounded by nature makes it all better.

Blessed Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much, it was peaceful and relaxing. We did have to come in the dark but was still able to find it with the direction that the owner gave. Our daughter did come down from Johnson City, TN and it was great to have her for the day and a night. Enjoyed the festival in Brevard and went into Ashville for lunch. We were surprised at how beautiful the Sierra Brewery was, it was so worth the afternoon to walk the gardens and sit outside. Cabin was in a great location for visiting many of the spots that we picked out to do around there. We even took a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The only thing that we would have liked in the cabin that they did not have was a fire pit outside. I thought that might be because they are right next to the national park. Thank you, it is a majestic spot for a cabin.

Great little family cabin getaway

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was perfect for a family of four. Had everything we needed inside including pots pans and some basic utensils. We went hiking and fishing and it couldn't have been in a better location-we will definitely come back

Excellent Stay that Was Exactly What Was Needed

  • 5 of 5

I rented the cabin for the month of July as I was working on a forest conservation project in the area. The cabin was in an ideal location to be near amazing areas (Gorges State Park, many state and national conservation lands surrounding) but also not far from towns such as Brevard, NC and Pickens, SC. The cabin was excellent - exactly as advertised, kept up beautifully, and is also certainly a nice place to be if you enjoy peace and quiet in an out of the way location. The owners, Debbie and Steve, were extremely nice to me and were a pleasure to work with. Particularly given I stayed a whole month, I could not have asked for a better place nor had better owners to work with than Debbie and Steve, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have stayed in their place.

Jewel in the mountains exceeded our expectations!

  • 5 of 5

Was visiting the Jocassee / Keowee area to look for a lake home. Debbie and Steve's cabin is located close to both so we booked it. Bearing in mind this is a mountain cabin, the serpentine roads in are best traveled slowly, but offer time to enjoy the area.

Once there, my fiance was blown away with how adorable the cabin is. It is very charming inside and the owners have obviously taken a great deal of time and attention to provide a setting that is both "cabin feeling" without being rustic. It is immaculately kept and fully updated with nice amenities and we appreciated, as others have noted, that everything from sheets to quality towels to condiments were available in the cabin so packing was easier. The master bedroom bed in the upstairs was very comfortable and separate from the loft bedroom by the bathroom between, but no door. It was perfect for the two of us, but might not be for everyone.

Taking morning coffee on the spacious porch was a treat and we had humming bird visitors. Sitting outside in the porch swing in the evening before retiring was the perfect way to wind down. Oddly, almost no bugs outside on the porch at night!

Heading out towards Keowee, we drove past Gorges State Park, one of the recommended attractions of the area, so even though it was not our intended destination, we thought "why not?" and stopped in. So glad we did! Spent the remainder of the day hiking and viewing Rainbow Falls (breath taking) and Turtle-back falls. If you have kids, bring your bathing suits and take your kids to Turtle-back where they can enter the water flow, and slide down the smooth rock into a pool below. They'll have a blast!

In short, we loved the place and love the area and plan on spending much more time there in the future. Just make sure you bring the provisions you want in with you as the nearest grocer is a bit of a hike.

Thanks Debbie and Steve!

Just What We Were Looking For

  • 5 of 5

We have been renting different cabins in the area for the past 4 years. We usually stay in Dupont state forest or just on the outskirts of Brevard. This time we were looking for a different area to stay. After searching for a couple of days we decided to stay at Debbie and Steve's cabin. It was perfect in size and location. The cabin is well stocked with all you would need to cook you meals. The kitchen and dining area has an open feel to it with the vaulted ceiling leading to the loft area. When in the cabin we spent most of our time upstairs in the masterbed room area. My wife, 2 kids and I piled onto the master bed and played boardand card games while peeking at the tv. One of the reasons we chose this place was its location to part of the area we have yet to explore. We spnt 2 days hiking to waterfalls in Gorges state park. If you are looking to get out of town and out into the mountians this place is perfect. It is about 20 to 30 minute drive out of Brevard. It is tucked back up in the mountians away from everything. When we return we will be sure to bring food so we don't have to drive back to town to eat. If you are looking for a romantic getaway for just the two of you this place is perfect. If you will bringing family then not so, the masterbed room is in the loft area and there is another bedroom up there. There is no door so the fmaster is not private. This wis the only draw back that I could see.

The cabin is approximately 15 minutes from The Frozen Creek Road entrance to Gorges State Park which has great hiking and beautiful views and waterfalls. The Blue Ridge Parkway can be accessed via Highway 215 and Highway 276. Smokey Mountains National Park is a two hour drive with beautiful scenery along the way. Lake Toxaway Community Center offers bluegrass music and dinner on Friday nights April-December. Pisgah National Forest offers hiking trails, and tours of old forestry homes at the Cradle of Forestry where the first Forest Rangers were trained. Be sure to take the kids to Sliding Rock in Pisgah. DuPont State Forest has hiking, waterfalls, and swimming. Some of the beautiful waterfalls in DuPont were featured in the movie, Hunger Games. Asheville is less than an hour from the cabin and a tour of the Biltmore house is not to be missed any time of year. Maggie Valley, home to the Cataloochee Ski Area is about an hours drive. For access to the French Broad River go to Champion Park, Rosman, NC.

The river begins here and runs north 210 miles to Lake Douglas, Tennessee. The park has paved parking and picnic tables.

Directions: From downtown Brevard go South on Broad Street and veer right to get onto US 64 West. Travel 7.8 miles on US 64. Take a left onto US 178 S/Pickens Highway. Travel about .8 miles and turn right onto Chestnut. At the second block turn left onto Main Street – the park is just ahead on the right.

The cabin is the perfect place to 'get away from it all' and just relax. But if you are in pursuit of adventure and outdoor activities, you will be impressed with all the offerings and the beautiful location. Trout fishing in the area is some of the best in the country. Hiking trails surround you with 45% of Transylvania County being National or State Forests/Parks. Brevard is also a mecca for cycling enthusiasts. In addition, you will find river rafting, kayaking, swimming, horseback riding, and more waterfalls than you can imagine. Many of the waterfalls are easily accessible. Other nearby towns are Hendersonville where you will find the Mast General Store, and the resort villages of Cashiers and Highlands. All three are less than an hours drive from the cabin and you will find good restaurants and interesting shopping.
