A world famous artist who stayed with us recently wrote this back to us..... 'For six days before Christmas, we woke up in the puffy clouds and softly colored ocean waves in the comfort of this magical space. Painted by the owner on the walls are pastel spirals, waves and seafoam with blue and yellow reef fishes rocking just below the surface. You are enveloped in an ocean wave. There are two comfortable bedrooms and a large living-dining kitchen area with fresh cross ventilation and seaward views from multiple windows. Some times there was a warm, gentle rain and the gentle clatter of bamboo stems; for all six nights the moon was overhead amidst racing clouds. It was quiet and totally private. Bring your books and your Hawaiian music CDs because you will be so comfortable that you will not run out 'go somewhere'. We made breakfast there every day and could not bring ourselves to leave the place until 10:30 or 11:00 in the morning. We made dinner there too, instead of eating out every night. Highly recommended for those who want the true Maui mood of peace amid nature.

Lovely place if I bit rustic

  • 4 of 5

We had never been to Hawaii before. We picked this place because we wanted to be away from the tourist centers. It was lovely. Peaceful, on the north side of the island. It was great for my kids. there is a huge yard with fruit trees they can run around in. For fellow parents, understand that the second bedroom is out the door and across the lanai. It worked out fine for us but other families might not be OK with the situation. Also for those new to the islands there are bugs. Spiders in the house, ghost ants and other creepy crawlies. We didn't know and were a bit weirded out for the first few days. We loved however listening to the gecko's chirping outside at night. We delt with the bugs by putting all open food in the refrigerator. We cooked several times at the house and it was easy and convenient. We had a cane toad that showed up on our lanai most nights. We named him Bob. We did not know that they were poison. So we kept our distance but enjoyed him too. It was also nice to have access to laundry machines. We washed a couple of times after getting clothes super dirty and were grateful for it. The kids also loved the pool and used it most days. It was wonderful to wake up in the morning and see the ocean in the distance and feel the cool breezes. There is no air conditioning, but with the trade winds and the windows open it was fine. The beds were super comfy too. Understand this is not a hotel room. It is part of a house. Our TV did not work in either room at the time. We did not tell the caretaker but are sure if we would have it would have been fixed. We ended up not watching TV at all. All in all it was a wonderful stay. Paia is my favorite place in the world now. I miss it already. I learned so much being there and the house was a big part of it. It is not perfect by any means but it is calm and peaceful. That is why you are going there right?

Peaceful island beauty

  • 5 of 5

Typically go to Kauai and have had the opportunity to stay with family in the past in private plantation house as well as resort condos or VRBO House. It's quieter and we tend to shy away from the large tourist crowds. The songs from the birds and the geckos were the loudest sounds heard at Maui Ocean Breezes. We didn't see any other guests and had so much privacy in our apartment and on the lanai. Gabi was a wonderful host, very responsive and welcomed us with coconuts where we enjoyed the freshness of the coconut water and then the sweet coconut meat. We were thrilled to also enjoy a freshly picked lemon from the lemon tree and some celery from the garden as well.

We were able to check out the stand alone cottage and the retreat above the apartment as well. Will return and select the cottage. Wonderful property, clean and the amazing view and breeze kept us comfortable and captivated. The only downside was spotty wifi and limited cellular reception. Asked Gabi to reset the wifi, which helped a bit. Given all of the other positive attributes of this beautiful property, the wifi was a minimal inconvenience.

Venture into the nearby towns - Haiku - try the food truck (Mediterranean food) and Nuka Japanese restaurant. Paia - loved Café Mambo's Fish & Chips and Mana Foods groceries - biggest avos you'll find! Makawao - for Komoda's malasadas and short bread cookies.

A Peaceful Place To Return to After a Hard Day of Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Maui Ocean Breezes was exceptionally pleasant, quiet and in tune with the natural surroundings. We'd breakfast on fresh bananas on the porch watching the sunrise, watch colorful geckos scurry about, discover many plants and fruit, sit on the lawn next to huge toads at night, do yoga in the tranquil meditation hut. Gabi and John were excellent hosts; always there when you needed them, but otherwise unobtrusive. The dwelling - "Hibiscus Hideaway" was airy and simple, decorated with whimsical ocean frescoes, but had all the necessities and more. The only caveat was that the WIfi was too weak on the porch to be really usable, though this was not a problem indoors. We were more than pleased with our stay and would be happy to come again.

Best of what Maui has to offer

  • 5 of 5

Awe-inspiring!!! You drive down Hana highway past the new Jaws Country Store and turn LEFT towards the ocean. Down the road and in this piece of paradise, you'll immediately drop your jaw as you turn into this magnificent piece of Maui Paradise☀️ The beautiful swimming pool you see first is similar to the real thing (jungle falls) across the street at Twin Falls 🌴 There are several units There T you feel as if it's all yours. Troy meets you with his endearing smile and can't wait to show you the fruit trees in his orchard...followers by a coconut (with a straw) he hands you as you walk back to put your bags down. The little Hibiscus 🌺 Hideaway is amply supplied Hideaway is very clean. The breezes will make you want to hang out here your entire stay. What can I say?

150% satisfied 😜

Beautiful setting, some things could be upgraded

  • 3 of 5

This property is beautiful. Great ocean views, lovely yard, great pool and our son loved the animals. There is lots to love about this property, and we would come back, but we would look at renting one of the other units perhaps.

The Hibiscus suite is a cute apartment, but we found that the amenities were slightly lacking. We had to request soap for the bathroom and the kitchen accessories need an overhaul. It would only take $200 to buy new glasses, plates, cutlery and proper cutting board. The blender is missing a lid etc.

With four rental units on the property, be sure to get clear instructions on parking as we found the rules were not clearly outlined in the written materials and then changed over the time we were there. This could be simply addressed by the owner updating the house rules in writing.

When we raised our concerns Anjali responded quickly and our concerns were addressed which is why we would come back. She is lovely.

Hopefully this is helpful. Overall a property really worth checking out especially if you have kids and have a few days to enjoy it.

Owner's Response: We are a peaceful ecofriendly estate. For the convenience of our guests there is parking for their car right next to each unit. There is additional parking for cars out by the entrance to the property. When visitors come to see the paid guests at night , they are reuested to park there in order not to disturb others.

Wonderfully peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

It was my first trip to Hawai'i, and I wanted a nice, quiet place at which to recharge, and from which to explore other parts of Maui. I found this location through the VRBO website and was very pleased with my selection. It was an easy 25 minutes drive from Kahalui, and only 15 minutes from the small town of Paia and nice north-side beaches. The owner was very helpful on my first day in orienting me by phone, letting me know of a local grocery store in Paia and some surrounding attractions. The beaches were not busy, the water clear, with big waves (but not too big for swimming!), and some beaches are dedicated to surfing only. This location was close to the famous Mama's Fish House (I recommend booking restaurants via the Open Table app, or calling ahead, as there is always a waitlist otherwise), and an easy drive to other areas of the island. Kaanapali is only about 1 to 1.5 hours' drive from here. Very do-able on any day where it's raining in Haiku but not on the other side of the island. The property was well-kept, everything worked (plumbing, hair dryer, fridge, lights, etc), and it had the beginnings of a self-sustaining vegetable garden, and eco-friendly atmosphere. Each unit here (I think there were three guest suites, and one unit for the property manager) had its own parking space. The one-bedroom I rented was pleasantly decorated with colorful waves and fish. It fit nicely with the feel and energy of the island. And the little yurt was a good space in which to do yoga when I sorely needed some quiet, stretching time, surrounded by lots of light and a pleasant breeze. I didn't use the pool since I went to the beach each day, but it was nice to have nearby. I'd consider staying here again.
