About Jonathan King

I grew up here in the North Country and always loved the lake. Finally as an adult I was able to buy my lake house. Work has moved me to Chicago. I get to the camp as often as possible, but when I'm not here, I like to make it available for other people to enjoy.

Jonathan King purchased this house in 2001

Why Jonathan King chose Adirondack Mountains

After looking all around Lake Champlain. I picked Port Douglass and Corlear Bay because it reminds me of what life must have been like here in the 30's.

What makes this house unique

Although we're in the country and it's very private and quiet. We have easy access to the highways and other cities and attractions the North Country has to offer. I am an on site manager. I live just 3 doors down, and am available for advice on restaurants, shopping, directions, and to be there if anything comes up.

The lake is why we're here. The swimming is great. Nice stone beach out to a firm sandy bottom. The lake will warm into the 70's. The porches overlooking the lake are hard to leave, but if you do there are plenty of places to go to. Lake Placid is a beautiful 50 minute drive, Montreal and Lake George are just 90 minutes, the ferry to Burlington is 10 minutes up the shore. The spectacular Ausable Chasm is down the road 10 minutes. Hiking, biking and animal watching are all right out the door. There is always something to do at the camp, rain or shine!

Excellent Lake House for short or long stays! Relaxing with plenty of options.

  • 5 of 5

As first time visitors to the region we browsed through many possible places before finding Patti's Camp and boy did we feel like we hit the Jackpot!! The cabin itself is pretty spacious, well laid out, tastefully decorated, extremely well kept and very well equipped. Location-wise we could not ask for better. The area is very private and quiet and the lake is beautiful and easy to swim in and in kayak around. The views of the l lake are joy inspiring at all times of day. Regionally speaking we loved hiking, visiting AuSable Chasm, and ferrying over to Burlington. And there was so much more we could have done if we had more time. It was very easy to relax, explore and enjoy ourselves. Although we did not need anything we appreciated being in contact with Jonathan. It was nice feeling not so much like 'renters'-and more like guests!! We hope to return soon!

What a view!

  • 5 of 5

This place has been cared for and redone. The camp was beautiful and the view was amazing. I wish we could have stayed forever! Note: there is limited TV, Internet and no air conditioning. We thought that this would be an issue but it wasn't really. There is a great breeze coming off the lake and tons of Windows with screens to cool the house down well. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a getaway.

Absolutely Delightful!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful, well-appointed, lovingly decorated house in the best spot on the lake. Our family of six felt absolutely at home and so welcomed. Grandma and Grandpa loved it downstairs with their own terrace and a kitchenette, and each of the kids had their own private space! The lake (we even called it 'sea' between ourselves) is of course the best thing, spectacular views and great swimming. The things we enjoyed most (in no particular order): kayaking almost every day, bonfires on the beach, tubing on the lake with Jonathan for the kids, humming birds visiting the feeder and the flowers on the upper terrace, seeing bald eagles for the first time, hiking the Poke-O-Moonshine Mountain, taking a ferry to Vermont. Jonathan and Patty did their best trying to fix the WiFi, and Jonathan was very helpful in other ways, too. We felt like everything was there for us. Had the best time and were so sad to leave!

Perfect retreat from our hectic lives!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four and our dog had one of the most relaxing vacations of our lives for 2 incredible weeks at this house. The property is exactly as described. The views of the lake and green Montains of Vermont are unbeatable and not obstructed by trees. Everything was clean, the lake water was crystal clear with a nice sand bottom, the kitchen was well-equipped, there was always enough of a light breeze with no mosquitos, and the stargazing from the pier was the best we've ever had. The upper and lower porches were well-decorated and comfortable. There were plenty of games in the living room chest and lots of books. Jonathan (the property manager) lives two doors down and for a very minimal fee took us out on his boat for wake boarding and tubing (a highlight for our teens!). He was super nice and helpful with suggestions. It was quiet and peaceful. A boat landing is a mile away if you needed to bring a larger boat to anchor near the pier. The bedding was comfortable and having two bathrooms made life much easier with our two teens. I wish we had booked three weeks as there was so much to do in the area - yet you truly are in a remote area. Ausable chasm was 10 minutes away, there are some cute breweries within a short drive or an ice cream stand for kids. We went to Lake Placid and took the Whiteface Mountain Gondola one morning and were back by lunch. We ferried over to Burlington for the day as foot passengers from Port Kent - only 10 minutes away. The ferry ride was about 45 minutes but the ride was gorgeous, giving views of the green mountains as well as the Adirondaks. Lots of great shopping and dining in Burlington a short walk from the ferry.

We will most definitely be back - and might be considering purchasing a house on the market three doors down. The place was just that special to us.

Perfect location on beautiful lake

  • 4 of 5

We loved the lake views from the porch here-it was perfect for waking up in the morning with a cup of coffee to relaxing in the evening with a glass of wine. The porch was also great for our dogs & we even enjoyed sitting out there for the one rainstorm we had. The lake is beautiful- clear, mix of sandy & rocky bottom- wonderful for using the kayaks provided. We just came to relax & watch the world go by & this camp provided that with all its amenities. It is well stocked & furnished & very tastefully decorated. We cooked almost all of our meals at the cabin & found most of what we needed-could use more than one hot pad. The only reason we didn't give it 5 stars was a few maintenance/housekeeping issues- leaky, kitchen faucet & upstairs shower sprayed a bit onto ceiling, mouse dirt in bathroom cabinet downstairs. Jonathan was available & checked in on us several times & helped resolve a missing dvd player & lack of wifi connection within a day-very helpful & very friendly & very knowledgeable of the area. We would recommend this camp & would return here again. The bottom line is... it was a relaxing, lovely stay with minor issues that should not stop anyone from renting.

Owner's Response: Michelle, Thank you for the review. I like to hear about any issues with the camp. I was aware of the kitchen faucet, but didn't know about the shower. All that will be fixed for next season. It's fall and the critters are looking to move in. We'll keep a better lookout for things to clean up. Glad you had a good stay. The weather was awesome and no better place to enjoy it than on the camp's porch. I'll be enjoying the harvest moon in a few nights. That moonbeam across the lake never gets old. Off for a swim, Jonathan

We spent a week here and really enjoyed ourselves. The view is breathtaking, the house is well-maintained, and the hospitality was great. The place offers something for everyone.

Welcome to the Adirondack North Country. This is an undiscovered part of the world that has changed very little from the 1930's. This is a quiet and undeveloped part of the lake. Life at the lake is great, but if you decide to leave, there is plenty to do nearby.
