About Steve Peterson
I grew up here in Winston-Salem, NC and always loved the North Carolina mountains. My wife is from Phoenix, AZ and fell in love with the mountain area as well. I have a decking business in the Winston area and we built this cabin so we could get away to the mountains as often as possible with our 2 children and (quite often) their friends.
Steve Peterson purchased this Cabin in 2004
Why Steve Peterson chose Bald Mountain
We built this cabin ourselves back in 2004 after we found this lot which has an absolutely phenomenal view! We knew immediately that we wanted to buy this lot and build a house where we could enjoy the view in a wonderful, cozy atmosphere.
What makes this Cabin unique
"Getting away from it all" is the only way to describe the feeling we get up here. It is quiet and tranquil and you can feel the worries of the world ebbing away from you. Yet it is still close to many outdoor activities -- including golf, hiking, and the New River -- as well as restaurants and shopping, for when you feel a little more energetic.

Amazing views! The gas fires places kept us warm and cozy for our January stay.
Great location and mountain views
This property is well maintained, stocked and overall a very good value. Of note, the kitchen is well equipped for a rental. The deck, screened porch are to die for.
Lovely, spacious home with wonderful mountain views. Privacy in a quiet neighborhood close to towns.
We booked this home knowing nothing about the area except that we wanted to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway and see fall foliage.( Travelers were two couples in our 50's/60's but this house would be fantastic for families with kids/teens.) We were not disappointed. The views were just gorgeous from the decks and the large arched window in the den framed the landscape so beautifully. The owner was very helpful in providing sightseeing advice. We made several day trips from here to areas within a 1 to 3 hour radius and so enjoyed coming back to the fireplace and serenity in the evenings. There is ample space to spread out in the different gathering areas, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and utensils. We appreciated the Keurig especially! The drive up to the house was pretty and not difficult. We would definitely stay here again.
Absolutely lovely place, setting and restful
We have been to this wonderful retreat many times over the past 10 years. It never fails to fulfill our expectations.
The best stay ever! ❤️ love it
This is my happy place! This property meets every expectation of a great vacation home! Location,Mountain views, and the comfort of the home is more than awesome! This is my 4th stay and already booked for next year! Thanks for sharing!
The View from Laurel Mountain
But we call it the Wow House because of the spectacular South facing view stretching miles and miles over ridges, peaks and valleys all the way to Grandfather Mountain. To enjoy these views the lower deck is huge with several seating areas , a new fire pit, luxury gas grill and bird feeders. The upper deck leading from the bedroom has even more views. We spent most of our time on the deck birding, sunsets and star gazing. Adjacent to the deck is a large screened porch for eating or just relaxing.
The interior is very spacious with high ceilings. The lounge has Cathedral Ceiling and beautiful hardwood floors. The kitchen is well equipped with up to date stainless steel appliances. The Master Suite has ensuite bath with whirl pool tub and walkin shower. All bedrooms are ensuite plus powder room next to lounge. Downstairs there is huge game room with T.
V.,pool table, ping pong , air hockey and games.
The area around is rural with small farms away from the hustle and bustle of tourists. Todd and the New River are two miles away. There are several State Parks including N.C. newest, Elk Knob. The Farmer's Market in West Jefferson is a must as are the free summer concerts in Todd.
The owners are readily available to make your stay trouble free. After four visits in two years we highly recommend this vacation destination. We really would like to keep this jewel a secret!
