About the property

Centrally Located To All The Fabulous Places To Visit In Slo County

Welcome! This charming 1920's 2 bedroom 1 bath Craftsman style home is located on one acre and less than 2 miles from the heart of Atascadero.

You can travel in any direction and explore some great places in SLO County. There is Paso Robles Wine country, Paso Robles Event Center with the Mid-State Fair and Lake Nacimiento to the north, to the east there is the Carizzo Plains National Monument, to the west there is Morro Bay, Cayucos and the Pacific Ocean, to the North West there is Cambria, San Simeon including scenic Hwy 1, and to the south there is quaint Santa Margarita and Santa Margarita Lake, San Luis Obispo, Grover and Pismo Beach. San Luis Obispo County also boasts the Los Padres National Forest with plenty of hiking trails that can be accessed near Atascadero.

The Cottage was simply built in the 1920's and updated with function in mind. It is one of the original Colony homes in Atascadero. It is well suited for four people. It has a front porch with rockers that you can enjoy the evenings on...even take your meal there. There are two bedrooms; one with a queen size bed and the other with a double bed. Both have a dresser and a closet in their rooms. A full size oven and stove, microwave, dishwasher and full size refrigerator are provided in the kitchen. The bathroom is equipped with a shower/tub combination and a heater for your comfort. There is a BBQ in the back yard that is stored in the shed near the house, and a table and chairs for outdoor use. There are a number of oak trees on the property which gives the front yard a park like setting. Deer meander through the yard each evening and you might even see a turkey every now and then. Walk the 'San Clemente loop' and enjoy the diverse architecture of homes and landscaping along the route.

Interesting points of Atascadero: There is fabulous weather. The average high in the summer is 90 degrees, low is 56. The winter highs are 62 and lows are 37. The summers can be gorgeous with warm days and evenings. There is a great park and lake where you can rent paddle boats, canoes, feed the ducks or have a family gathering and rent BBQ pits. Located near the park is the Charles Paddock Zoo. Atascadero hosts many events such as wine tasting, Christmas in the Park and other holiday events each weekend in December, and a summer concert series. A great place to find out more information on Atascadero is the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce at www.atascaderochamber.org

We hope you enjoy your stay here.

About Charles and Donna Evans

Charles and I bought this house just before we got married in 1981. While we have moved for employment, this home has never been far from our minds, and we love it. Our daughter Sarah lives next door and will help you get settled or give you some great tips about the town.

Charles and Donna Evans purchased this cottage in 1981

Why Charles and Donna Evans chose Central Coast

When we were engaged to be married we knew that our first order of business was to buy a home. Finding the right home proved to be hard and nothing seemed to satisfy us both. Then the realtor brought us to this little home on an acre. As we turned into the drive way and our eyes settled on the front porch, we knew we had found home.

What makes this cottage unique

While we have neighbors around us, the property has a very rural feel. There is a church across the street, so it is busy on Sunday mornings, otherwise fairly quiet during the week. The house is located on a hill. Many people walk this street for exercise and has been nicknamed the San Clemente Loop. No two houses or properties are alike, so it is interesting to walk the loop or 'block' and see the different houses and landscaping.

You know what I love about this neighborhood? First off the neighbors on either side are great (one is my daughter...of course I would say that!). The second thing I love is the way it smells, the grass especially in the summer with the oaks has an earthy fragrance that just seems to help relax me.

The property was very clean.

My family and I came for our daughter's 30th birthday, who resides 30 minutes from the property. The property owner's are responsive and their daughter and her family, who lives next door are warm and friendly-yet not intrusive. We would definitely stay again!

A great stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time staying at the cottage. And once again, we had a wonderful stay. The cottage had everything we needed for our extended stay. We enjoyed being surrounded by nature and watching the turkeys, deer, and other wildlife roam about the yard. The location was perfect for our needs. A five minute drive to the grocery store, restaurants, and movie theater. Donna was quick to respond to our emails and was very helpful. We would love to come back for another stay. Hopefully in the spring. Thank you!

Donna had everything we needed and the beds were comfortable. I would choose the house over a hotel anytime. It was like being at home away from home! It was the best time we have had being out of town in a long time.

Wonderful home, perfect location.

The Colony Cottage is a wonderful home with warm California craftsman charm. It is very clean and spacious with a great kitchen, ample bedrooms and wood floors throughout. The porch with it's rockers were a highlight in the evening where we sipped local wine and enjoyed the setting sun. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood and is close to the Paso Robles wine country where there is much to explore. The town of Atascadero is just a short drive away with good choices to eat. We visited the farmer's market and brought home wonderful fresh fruit and vegetables. There are great little day trips including Morro Bay, Hearst Castle, and San Luis Obispo nearby, and the mission in San Miguel is a delight. The host was most helpful. The Colony Cottage is a great base for exploration on the central coast of California. We will be staying again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for that great review! We love hosting couples and families that come to enjoy the Central Coast and all of its 'flavors'. The Cottage is in a perfect location to do that. We offer a clean, simple, comfortable and charming way to do that. Come visit again! Donna
