About this property
The Colony Cottage - Rural setting close to town.
Welcome! This charming 1920's 2 bedroom 1 bath Craftsman style home is located on one acre and less than 2 miles from the heart of Atascadero. You can travel in any direction and explore some great places in SLO County. There is Paso Robles Wine country, Paso Robles Event Center with the Mid-State Fair and Lake Nacimiento to the north, to the east there is the Carizzo Plains National Monument, to the west there is Morro Bay, Cayucos and the Pacific Ocean, to the North West there is Cambria, San Simeon including scenic Hwy 1, and to the south there is quaint Santa Margarita and Santa Margarita Lake, San Luis Obispo, Grover and Pismo Beach. San Luis Obispo County also boasts the Los Padres National Forest with plenty of hiking trails that can be accessed near Atascadero. The Cottage was simply built in the 1920's and updated with function in mind. It is one of the original Colony homes in Atascadero. It is well suited for four people. It has a front porch with rockers that you can enjoy the evenings on...even take your meal there. There are two bedrooms; one with a queen size bed and the other with a double bed. Both have a dresser and a closet in their rooms. A full size oven and stove, microwave, dishwasher and full size refrigerator are provided in the kitchen. The bathroom is equipped with a shower/tub combination and a heater for your comfort. There is a BBQ in the back yard that is stored in the shed near the house, and a table and chairs for outdoor use. There are a number of oak trees on the property which gives the front yard a park like setting. Deer meander through the yard each evening and you might even see a turkey every now and then. Walk the 'San Clemente loop' and enjoy the diverse architecture of homes and landscaping along the route. Interesting points of Atascadero: There is fabulous weather. The average high in the summer is 90 degrees, low is 56. The winter highs are 62 and lows are 37. The summers can be gorgeous with warm days and evenings. There is a great park and lake where you can rent paddle boats, canoes, feed the ducks or have a family gathering and rent BBQ pits. Located near the park is the Charles Paddock Zoo. Atascadero hosts many events such as wine tasting, Christmas in the Park and other holiday events each weekend in December, and a summer concert series. This was absolutely a beautiful and wonderful place to stay! Quiet, calming, clean, relaxing, plenty of room. Host was wonderful, responded quickly. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Cutest place ever! So cozy and inviting. Very clean and comfortable. We saw the deer grazing on our way in. On a quiet street, very pretty area. Donna was great to communicate with, very helpful and friendly. Will definitely stay again.
Atascadero is a good place to escape Alaska's winter
Comfortable, good location (quick trip to Vons, Trader Joes, Templeton, Paddock Zoo), good neighbors (they had two adorable kittens and several dogs who loved to visit) and interesting scenery.
The Colony Cottage never disappoints--that's why I go back. The house is charming and the location spectacular, The hosts, Donna and Charles, are phenomenal--highly responsive and helpful for anything you need.
This home is so cute, big and spacious, lots of yard and great location to everything. The hosts were wonderful and made everything very easy. I would definitely stay here again.
The cottage was very clean, filled with enough supplies and it has a spacious kitchen. The host was very sweet, and accommodating. We totally enjoyed our stay!
We loved our stay here. The house was a quaint historic home with all the needed amenities. Our favorite activity was sitting on the front porch in the morning with our coffee watching the local deer gather. Great location for exploring the central coast.
This was the best getaway so far I’ve experienced. This is the cutest cottage & so comfortable, lots of pillow’s & blankets, plenty towels too.
Hope to come back soon.
The Colony Cottage is a favorite. We've been many times and are always delighted with our time in the area. Tranquil, yet near Paso, SLO, and Morro Bay. Donna is an excellent host.
The cottage was delightful. Even with temps over 100 degrees some days, it stayed cool inside. The location is beautiful and we loved watching the wildlife.
If you want to go to a comfortable place, this is your choice. Everything in the cottage was very clean. The kitchen was marvelous. Donna is an exceptional host.
Gorgeous property! Extremely quite as well. Very large kitchen should you have any cooking space requirements. Comfy beds, cozy living room, couldn't ask for more... it was relaxing stay for sure. Also only 5 minutes from restaurants, coffee shops, and grocery stores.
This was exactly the place for a peaceful retreat that my husband and I were looking for for our vacation. We could tell when we saw the front porch and rocking chairs that it was made for us. We stayed a week and are happy to be home. We will have fond memories of this cottage for many years to come.
Three sisters traveling to area for family and County Fair. Wonderful and relaxing cottage. Quiet and clean. Fans available to stifle the heat. Close to our destinations. Enjoyed the concert at the Zoo park. Enjoyed the Fair also. Look forward to visiting again.

Charming Cottage!
We stayed for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The cottage is clean and the 1920s vibe is fun! Deer grazing in the back and bees humming in the lavender border add to the charm. The location is perfect to visit Paso Robles, Morro Bay, and San Luis Obispo. We hiked, drove through the vineyards, saw the elephant seals in San Clemente, and thoroughly enjoyed the surroundings.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Atascadero is the perfect location to see all the best that San Luis Obispo County has to offer, plus its own small town charm. The Cottage is a great place to rest in between adventures, we aim to keep it simple and comfortable.
About the host
Hosted by Charles and Donna Evans
Charles and I bought this house just before we got married in 1981. While we have moved for employment, this home has never been far from our minds, and we love it. Our daughter Sarah lives next door and will help you get settled or give you some great tips about the town.
Why they chose this property
When we were engaged to be married we knew that our first order of business was to buy a home. Finding the right home proved to be hard and nothing seemed to satisfy us both. Then the realtor brought us to this little home on an acre. As we turned into the drive way and our eyes settled on the front porch, we knew we had found home.
What makes this property unique
While we have neighbors around us, the property has a very rural feel. There is a church across the street, so it is busy on Sunday mornings, otherwise fairly quiet during the week. The house is located on a hill. Many people walk this street for exercise and has been nicknamed the San Clemente Loop. No two houses or properties are alike, so it is interesting to walk the loop or 'block' and see the different houses and landscaping. You know what I love about this neighborhood? First off the neighbors on either side are great (one is my daughter...of course I would say that!). The second thing I love is the way it smells, the grass especially in the summer with the oaks has an earthy fragrance that just seems to help relax me.
