Why Chad Streid chose St. George Island

We moved to North Florida 20 years ago and visited Saint George Island. We immediately fell in love with the local charm and beauty of the "forgotten coast". Coming from South Florida it reminded us of Sanibel Island before development hit the area. If you're looking for a relaxed, family oriented island to get away from the crowds then this is the place for you!

What makes this house unique

Amazing fishing, with no high rises or large crowds. Area has a local charm that is hard to find, be sure to visit Apalachicola to get the full experience!

Relaxed, beautiful views, family friendly!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second summer at A Tropical Bay and we were impressed with a number of upgrades to their amenities. The owners clearly want their guests to be able to relax and enjoy the island.

Location - close enough to everything on the island - you can walk, bike or golf cart anywhere within minutes.

Property - Home is better than described - balconies everywhere and they added a sandy area great for beach games or just relaxing. Fishing from the dock is fun for everyone and they have a fish cleaning station as well. Everything was clean and they even had cleaning supplies on hand.

Customer Service - Owner was readily available to answer questions and addresses any concerns right away without hesitation.

Recommended for - Families or couples, even two - three families using the nice bunk room for 4 children. Even includes a crib and baby gate for the little ones.

To do - Be sure to go out to the Gulf to see the sunrise at least once, take a bike ride to the east end of the island, eat pizza at BJ's Pizza at least once and go to happy hour at Paddy's and the Blue Parrot. Plan to watch the sunset from the dock at the house every night - it is a different amazing show every time! Most of all, relax, take a nap, enjoy old Florida at it's very best!

Tips - Depending on the time of the year, be sure and be prepared for potential mosquitos and take precautions. Keep a cooler full of water and drinks on the ground floor to be able to enjoy the pool and beach without going up to the kitchen as often.

Great rental!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in several homes on the island, and this one is the best! We had three boats and eleven people with no complaints. There was room to park all three trailers and five vehicles. The owner was very helpful and responded quickly to my questions and the small issue we had with the kayak. We would definitely stay here again!

A Tropical Bay

  • 5 of 5

This is our 3rd year of staying at A Tropical Bay and we thoroughly enjoy it. We like being able to put our boat in and leave it for the week. The sunsets are breath taking. We love the improvements on the dock and around the swimming pool. The new fence allowed us to enjoy the view of the Bay and also provided a nice breeze.

See you next year.

Not a bad view anywhere in the house

  • 4 of 5

This place was awesome.. Great views everywhere. Lots of parking area in front of the home. Great pool area with very nice wooden bar area.. Lots of comfortable furniture both inside and outside the home. Nice little white sand beach area beside the pool for the kids to play in. The bunk room has 4 bunk beds and the top ones are great for kids. Great Wifi and our children used tablets and the Roku we brought during the rainy days. Every room has great porch area with sliding glass doors. Big dinning and living area for our whole family to hang out in. Great dock area to fish from and a cleaning table with running water and lights for night time fishing. Great fishing right from the dock..

Here are my few petty gripes about the place..

Its a 4 story house and the first story is just a landing area. The house has an elevator but its not available for use by renters which sucks. Your legs will get a workout after a week at this house.

The main communal kitchen, dining, living room is above the 3 other bedrooms and the floor is very thin. Don't expect to sleep in if you have any early risers in your family going for coffee because footsteps from the 3rd floor are loud in the bedrooms below.

The A/C units are programed to not go below 70 and I promise they are miscalibrated. 70 degrees in this house would be 75 or higher in any other home I have lived or stayed in. The owner states that he A/C units will freeze up if set below 70 so take that how you want.

There is a picture above that shows a boat up on a boat lift.. This home does not have a boat lift on its dock. My boat is covered in small barnacles from just a week in the water. No biggie but it would of been nice to know.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the amazing compliments, it's very satisfying to hear guests enjoying the home and improvements we put into it! The custom wooden bar was from a hundred year old cypress log salvaged out of the Apalachicola River. The built in bunks were put in just for families with kids so it's great to hear they're working out as planned! Please allow me to address your referenced gripes. There isn't an elevator in the home, if there was we would happily allow its use. Since the home is four stories you will definitely get a work out going up and down the stairs but I've come to enjoy this and feel the exercise is an added benefit for the whole family. I haven't noticed the floor to be any thinner than any other property I own but I have experienced being woken on regular occasion by early risers. When the home is filled with multiple families or up to 12 guests as in your case, it seems somebody is always up making a ruckus. Being woken early can always be a frustration but when I'm at the beach I've used the opportunity to throw a few early casts off the dock and caught a lot of nice Reds that way! There are three A/C's to cool the home but with eight entry and exit doors constantly opening and closing in the heat of summer, it can be a struggle for them to keep up. If the doors are kept shut we've never had a problem. However, we do have the home under maintenance contract with the best AC company in the area, if there is an AC problem they can be dispatched immediately. The thermostats are limited to 70 degrees because some guests upon arrival would put the thermostats on 65 while leaving the sliding doors open which would cause any AC to freeze up. It's more a preventative measure to insure our guests have a working AC for the duration of their stay than anything else. There was a picture of the bay at sunset with a boat on a lift in the distance to show the amazing sunset. Certainly didn't mean to represent we had a lift so we have removed the photo. There is an up close photo showing our dock, we have also added a very nice fish cleaning station since the photo was added. I actually messaged someone in this party to bring bumpers and be prepared to retrieve the boat but it must of not been passed on to everyone in the group. The good news is we have been working on getting approval for a boat lift and are hoping to have the permits in place for the installation of a brand new lift by next summer!

Tropical Paradise

  • 5 of 5

This home is exactly as advertised. The owner communicates promptly. The best features for our large family were the large private pool and the small beaches for the children to play. Everyone loved fishing off the dock and trying out the kayak. We brought our boat and it was easy to launch nearby and keep tied up at the dock. The rooms all have new bedding and the children enjoyed the custom bunk room. There are beautiful views from each room and we loved the sunsets.

The kitchen is well stocked and five adults could move around in the kitchen while we were cooking. Two small grocery stores and four restaurants and an ice cream shop are within two miles of the property and the beach is about two minutes away by car.

Our family had been vacationing at Orange Beach for ten years and voted to come here again next year !

Thanks Chad for sharing your beautiful home with us!
