Cartecay River Hideaway

No better place to get isolated than in our hideaway in the woods on the river with small town amenities nearby. Wade Right in from our River Cabin this Summer! Go Leaf-looking, get a Bushel of Apples, Hike the Georgia Mountains this Fall! Enjoy the solace of the season serenaded by the rippling water just outside or step out for adventure on nearby hiking, biking and river trails.

Beautiful 3-bedroom, 3 bathroom log cabin with three decks right on the sparkling Cartecay River. Set a line from the deck at water’s edge or set a spell in a rustic rocking chair and hear the river’s chatter from our screened in porch or master bedroom balcony.

All pine log home is attractively furnished, with upstairs king master suite, mirrored jacuzzi tub, and private balcony overlooking the river. Two main floor full bedrooms, one with riverside screened porch, offer North Georgia décor in superb comfort.

Fully equipped kitchen opens out to bright, multi-window great room and office nook with vaulted ceiling and massive rock fireplace equipped with gas logs (not available in summer). Cable tv, high speed internet, wireless access, dvd player bring modern conveniences into our log cabin on the Cartecay.

Downstairs bar room (bring your own beverages) with beer fridge, foosball table, and game table opens up to patio beside the river.

All linens provided. Full size washer and dryer. Sleeps 6.

Propane and gas grills on back patio next to river.

Cabin and local amenities: fish for trout from our riverbank or riverside deck. Prepare your favorite vacation and holiday meals in our fully equipped kitchen. Drive 15 minutes into downtown Ellijay for antiquing, dining, and enjoying small town charm.

Minutes from Ellijay’s Apple Alley, the Georgia Apple Restival (2nd & 3rd weekends of October) and local farm markets, Cartecay Vineyards, Amicalola Falls, Appalachian Trail, Benton MacKaye Trail and the charming small towns of Ellijay and Blue Ridge, plus some of the best hiking, mountain biking and hunting in the region.

Great hiking trails (Appalachian Trail, Benton MacKaye, Amicalola Falls State Park, Cohutta Wilderness and more) await your boots. Get your fat tires muddy on some of the best mountain bike trails in the southeast. Anglers enjoy trout fishing on the Cartecay, Noontootla, Toccoa, Ellijay and Coosawattee rivers.Nearby WMAs (Rich Mountain, Dawson Forest and Cohutta) provide ample hunting for deer, turkey, and feral hogs.


Enjoy apple harvest time with the Georgia Apple Festival (2nd & 3rd weekends in October) and family activities, petting zoos, tours, corn mazes and u-pick orchards at local apple houses. Leaf lookers enjoy colorful foliage from our back porch and on country roads, hiking trails and nearby state parks (Amicalola Falls and Fort Mountain).

The property and house has lots of potential, but it needs a lot of time and attention. We had to launder the bed linens before we could sleep on them. They all smelled musty. Every dish we pulled out of the cabinet was dirty. The grounds are very overgrown. It was sad because the view was so pretty, but you could hardly enjoy it because nothing was maintained. The couches had tears that were covered up with blankets. And there were nasty little notes everywhere that really made it feel as though we were imposing. I understand having rules, but everything felt as though we were not even supposed to be there. We were only allowed to do one load of laundry in seven days…. It seemed like it would have been better to just remove the washer and dryer. I actually removed some of the notes and put them back before we left because every time I saw them I got frustrated. The tone of each of them was fairly nasty. We could not get the dishwasher to work so we hand washed all dishes We were really disappointedThis is the first negative review I’ve ever left.

Cobwebby. Musty smelling. FYI (not a complaint) Top log on front step needs replacing. A cloth folding chair pink has dry rotted, someone will fall through.Nonetheless, enjoyed the sire, fished the river, lots of deer, kitchen nicely set up.

The property is beautiful, the grounds need to be cleaned up some, it is grown up with bushes and stuff. Up close was mowed , but in all we had a great time. Would come back and recommend it to others. Hot water did run out before jacuzzi was full enough to turn on. So didnt get to enjoy it.

The cabin was clean and very comfort. The check-in process was very smooth and Jane the host was very responsive. The location on the river is beautiful and very peaceful. We spend a week in the cabin to just relax and decompress from our busy lives. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Vacation 2025

We greatly enjoyed our stay! The house was open and spacious and we had everything we needed in the kitchen. The property was nice and the proximity to the river was just as is listed. The driveway was a little intimating in one spot but after a few runs to town we were old pros. The sound of the river was a great relaxer and we enjoyed using the floats to take in some sunshine and nature. My husband and son in law were a little bumbed about the fishing but a short drive to Blue Ridge provided us with fresh trout. The house has a LOT of stairs, and my husband and I have knee issues, but we would book again and hope to soon!

River Hide Away

We chose this property for the river view and location. Both of these were great! The cabin was very nice and had two decks to look at the river. Again, great features.We had a storm the night we arrived and were without electricity for approximately 4 hours. Our host was very nice and responsive. They did suggest we stay the night without lights or air conditioning. I was going to go, but my girlfriend talked me in to staying. I was really happy when the electricity was restored,I am not sure if it was the storm, but something happened to the router and we did not have Internet for the entire time that we were there. Since this cabin was in the mountains, we also did not have phone service. There was a phone in the cabin, but it did not work because the router was not working. It was difficult not being able to communicate to the outside world or have a way to be contacted if there was an emergency.

hiking retreat

Nice place to just get away for a few days. There are some areas that need attention though. The grate going into the garage has a hole that someone's foot could go through. Also, some of the outside steps going from parking to path to the steps of the deck are a little sketchy.There are sime areas that we noticed t

Weekend getaway

We enjoyed the cabin. We all fit comfortably and the location on the creek was great. We enjoyed the electric fire and the fire pit. Ellijay was a great location!!

Crisp Fall Riverside Weekend

The cabin was as listed and met our needs and expectations. The proximity to apple orchards and vineyards was a plus. The location on the river was a winner and a delight to see the sun rise over the river well as the beaver moon at night. The sound of the rumbling water was an added delight.

Weekend stay

This is a great place to stay for a small group. Must be able to climb stairs. All groceries and luggage must be hauled up a flight of stairs. Driveway is a little tricky as you come up a steep hill and then drop down to driveway. After you drive it once, it is not hard, just scary the first time. Great stay.

Amazing Anniversary Weekend!

The cabin is right on the Cartecay River, and was fully outfitted with everything we needed for our stay. We loved it there so much that we didn’t leave the entire weekend. Highly recommend this beautiful home in Elijay to all!

Weekend on the Cartecay River

Our family wanted to stay somewhere close to Ellijay and on the river. The house is located within 15 minutes of downtown. We enjoyed our stay. The house was well appointed and really clean. The only thing that would have been nice to know before hand is the main bedroom is a loft open to the living room. All in all a good stay by all.

Great getaway

Very clean and quiet cabin in the woods. Beautiful river in the back. Great for fishing. Kids and adults had an amazing time. Owner is very responsive. Would definitely go again.

Right on the river!

We wanted a quiet place on the river, and the Cartecay Hideaway delivered. It is a cozy hunting and fishing cabin set in the rhododendrons and woods on the riverbank. The primary bedroom is tucked away in a corner of the loft over the living room, and there are 2 cozy bedrooms on the main. Basement game room (access thru garage) has a third bathroom. We loved the deck on the river! Spotlessly clean. The kitchen has good appliances and was equipped with a slow cooker and 3 coffee makers, French press, auto drip, and keurig. Gas and charcoal grills. The host offers nice extras like fishing rods — you need a GA fishing license and trout stamp. Make sure you ask about the pet rules before you book, if you are weighing whether to bring a dog, to make sure it is a good fit. Access is on a well maintained gravel road from the main road, and then a short paved driveway — we had no trouble in our minivan. Just go slow. You can see a couple of other houses across the river, but the people were very quiet when we were there. We would love to return.

Beautiful Place

Very nice secluded cabin. I love the river! Owners are very nice and quick to respond when I needed them. Just bring bug spray but it is in the woods. I hope to return again. Thanks.

That's me on my favorite rock just upstream from our river deck. I love to spend hours there in summer, reading, sunning or sipping a refreshing beverage. This is our favorite cabin, where the children frolicked and fished in the river and where we set out for fun and adventure in the mountains. The walls are adorned with trophies from their dad's hunts and river outings. Our memories are warm and anticipations high when our thoughts turn to Cartecay Hideaway.

Hear and see the river run from the balcony off the master bedroom or the screened in porch beside a secondary bedroom downstairs. Head downstairs to a basement bar room reminiscent of a retro hunting lodge or bikers' retreat. Settle in the den on comfy sofas near the massive rock fireplace, sunny office nook, and fully equipped kitchen.
