The living room has seating for everyone with four couches, and a game table for poker or puzzles. Enjoy the 42” SMART TV for Netflix movies, fun, and relaxation. The five bedrooms provide comfortable sleeping, and all bedrooms have a view across the Hood Canal to the snow covered Olympic Mountains. Our vacation home is also easy on the budget. Our rates our very competitive! Get together with family or friends, and divide the cost.
YOUR VERY OWN DOCK AND BEACH
We have a very large private beach and dock that is ready for your summer fun in the water. Your very own dock just waits for your sport boat to take you fishing, or water skiing, or tubing with kids across the canal. In the summer, the water warms to a wonderful temperature, and our area of Hood Canal is very popular for watersports. Kayaks, rowboat and paddleboat are available for additional cost. The beach is made up of smooth little pebbles on the upper area, and is great for the kids to play on.
There is also a deck over the water that is comfortably furnished with outside furniture and a charcoal BBQ grill. The beach is park-like, and has no neighbors on one side, and infrequent vacationers on the other. The hedge and board fence insulate the landing area from the road, which is crossed to access the water from the house.
Please note that as most Hood Canal docks do, the float will rest on the bottom during the lowest tide periods of some months.
Twanoh State park is just a half mile away, and has a very nice boat launch. Boat trailer parking is available in front of the house.
Gather the family around the large fire pit right on the beach for evening smores and hot dogs roasted right over the fire. This is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beautiful beach at the end of the day and take in a spectacular pink sunset that the Hood Canal is famous for. Make some family memories that they will not soon forget!
Our private beach is full of oysters, horse clams, Manila clams, and mussels (on the dock float). Crabbing is available in season. The native Dungeness crabs are delicious! Our favorite way to prepare oysters is on our large double BBQ grill (We also have a second BBQ grill at the beach). Grilled oysters are really succulent and flavorful. We love to sit at the table on the deck, enjoy the view, and dine on seafood. Buckets, digging tools and oyster knives are provided. Please note that all Dept of Fisheries regulations apply, including required licenses and limits.
Downstairs is a king bedroom off the main floor, furnished in rich, luxurious maroon and gold with a four poster bed. Also downstairs is a bath with shower. This bedroom is very comfortable for anyone in your group who may not want to go up and down stairs.
Upstairs are the remaining bedrooms, all with canal and mountain views, as well as another bathroom with bathtub and shower.
The first bedroom has a king canopy bed and daybed. Wake up to a beautiful view after a restful night’s sleep on our ultra-plush mattress. The daybed also has a very comfortable twin mattress and works well for little ones or adults.
Next, we have two rooms, each with a set of bunk beds, which are perfect for the kids, but also adults with our very nice plush mattresses. One of these bedrooms has a TV with VCR and DVD player and seating for the kids entertainment. This makes a fun get-away for the kids to enjoy their own movie.
The fifth bedroom, a queen room, also has a great view of the water, and a comfortable queen bed.
All the mattresses, including the bunk beds, are plush top and very comfortable for adults as well as children. Upstairs is a second bathroom with bathtub/shower and laundry area with a full size washer and dryer. Laundry detergent is provided. All linens and towels are provided.
Additional accommodations for our large groups include a queen size pull-out sleeper sofa in the living room which is also a fun cozy place for the youngsters to watch movies. We also have extra twin mattresses and folding futons for little ones.
ADDITIONAL HOME DETAILS
The home's open floor plan and expansive windows are perfect for entertaining, or just relaxing and taking in the 180 degree water view as it stretches below you and across the water to the majestic Olympic mountains.
The house's main floor has a huge open kitchen, which is fully equipped with everything you might need to prepare meals for larger groups. The kitchen has many unique features, like an expansive 6' of butcher block installed for baking to your heart's content, and a vintage 50’s enameled Youngston sink. The major appliances include a large 40” stainless steel stove with two ovens, and a stainless steel side by side refrigerator with crushed, cubed, and water dispenser in the door, stainless steel microwave and dishwasher.
The expansive countertop area and extended 50’s era sink easily accommodates several cooks at the same time. The bar is built into the expansive center island, and seats four with comfortable leather bar stools to keep the cooks company.
Gather the family around our spacious dining table with seating for 6-8 people. Additional seating is at the adjacent kitchen island bar for four and also four more at the oak game table. The dining table has an excellent view of the water.
The previous owners operated a restaurant on the property, and used the house kitchen for all the baking. The restaurant building is still on the property, and “old-timers” from the area still remember the succulent seafood and pies the restaurant was known for.
Kitchen also features a skylight, glass block window, and rows of custom cabinetry filled with lots of small kitchen appliances, pots, pans, and a selection of spices.
OUTDOOR DINING AND COOKING
Experience dining 'alfresco' on the covered deck, no matter what the weather. You can hear the dock 'singing' to the ebb and flow of the tide, and smell the fresh salt tinged air from this dining vantage point. Also, listen for the bark of the seals, and cry of the herons as they fly overhead from the water to their perch in the cedars behind the house. The seals provide the entertainment!
The deck is outfitted with a Chargriller double BBQ, with one side propane and the other side charcoal along with a side burner. Propane is provided. We love to grill up and oysters in the shell and steaks. The deck is furnished with comfortable padded chairs that you will not want to get up from! Additional seating is available on the deck as well to accommodate larger groups.
In the living room is a 42' SMART TV, with BlueRay DVD player. We have Wavebroadband cable and high speed wireless internet. No LAN line phone service, however. Verizon cell phone signal is excellent.
Hood Canal has been a vacation destination since the 1920’s, known for its beautiful views and abundant seafood, as well as warm summer waters. Our vacation home is on the preferred South Shore, which is also enjoyed by local well known families such as Bill Gates and the Nordstroms.
Local amenities include golf, dining and evening musical entertainment at the world class Alderbrook Resort and Spa. The golf course consistently ranks as one of Washington state's top 25. Music concerts on the lawn, drinks at the bar or gourmet dining are yours, and only 10 minute drive along picturesque Hood Canal's South Shore. Also an attraction is the Robin Hood Restaurant, which features local musicians, and a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. Afterward you can return to the space and privacy of your vacation home.
The town of Belfair is only a 10 minute drive away, and has a QFC, Safeway, RiteAid, Ace hardware (great place to get fishing supplies), and lots of small restaurants. Pizza delivery to the house is available from Seabeck Pizza. Our vacation home is far enough away to feel like a get-away, but close enough to make trips to town for groceries and supplies convenient.
Many families I talk to have wonderful childhood memories of warm summer days spent on the beaches of Hood Canal, digging for clams and picking oysters. They want to recreate these memories for their families and youngsters. There is just something special about the area that is memorable and brings people back. Come discover Hood Canal for yourself, and we invite you to spend some time at our vacation home on the Hood Canal. I know you will enjoy it as much as our family does.
