Your second floor, ocean view lanai is only 300 feet from the ocean in the sunny South Shore Poipu area of Kauai, 'the Garden Island.' You will be lulled to sleep by the ocean waves and the trade winds whispering through the palm trees in adjoining Prince Kuhio Park. The view from the bedroom is 180 degrees, ocean to mountain. The atmosphere here is 'Classic Hawaiian,' mellow and laid back.
Two beaches are each a three minute walk and feature protected swimming and snorkeling with turtles and fish inside the reef, as well as surfing at PK's, Centers, and Acid Drops on the outer reef. Many more beaches and surf spots are nearby. Close by are all Poipu and Koloa restaurants, golf courses, shopping, and services. Other South Shore Kauai attractions are a short drive away. Don't miss the Beach House Restaurant, across the street, famous for the magnificent sunset view.
Value! This is one of the best-kept secrets for rental values in the Poipu area. Our beautifully appointed, one bedroom condominium unit has recently been totally refurnished with new furniture. It features a king bed in the ocean view bedroom, full kitchen, dining area, bathroom, washer/dryer, and a garden-view living room. Pets are NOT allowed, No Smoking. The grounds are lushly landscaped and feature a pool, barbecue area, and covered parking. Prince Kuhio is a small complex and is rated a 'solid gold value' by 'The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook'.

In 2008, we retired and moved to Kauai after vacationing in our Prince Kuhio condo for nearly 10 years. We are now able to make improvements and just completed a re-model with new cabinets, appliances, tile and carpet (2009). New furniture (2010).

Tomorrow we have to leave the condo. It is really a lovely place and we enjoyed our stay here of nine days very much. It is well furnished, everything fits good together. It was a cozy place to relax after a tour a day long with exciting experience of Kauai. It was like coming home.
We enjoyed viewing ocean as well as mountains and breathing the peace of the sacred place of Prince Kuhio Park.

Bright, light, airy, spacious, comfy bed, fantastic view from the bed, comfy couch and chairs, well stocked kitchen, fantastic location, great condo complex... all very sweet. Patti was friendly, quick to communicate with us and address any concerns. This is our second time at PK 2-9 and we are already planning our return next year. The unit is in a great location - across the street from some of the best surfing and snorkeling in the area. Ocean view from the very comfortable king-size bed. Very well-appointed with all the dishes, utensils, towels, and beach toys (chairs, umbrella, ice chest, swim fins, beach towels) one would need. Very clean and comfortable unit. Walking distance to lots of great restaurants. We will definitely go back - thank you Patti and Doug!!
Unit 2-9 on the South Shore of Kauai at Prince Kuhio Resort meets all of our needs while vacationing on Kauai. The location is excellent, the resort grounds and amenities are quiet, quaint and welcoming, and the unit itself is perfect. Unit 2-9 is peaceful, clean and exceptionally well-equipped. We like being able to cook in the unit and also having BBQ facilities poolside. We appreciate having the washer and dryer as well as the extras that it is equipped with, beach chairs, beach towels, snorkel gear and flotation devices. No air-conditioning is needed as the efficient trade winds blow through the unit. The bedroom has an adjoining lanai and from both you have an amazing view of the ocean. The unit also overlooks the peaceful and spiritual historic Prince Kuhio Park. We love seeing the sunrise and the moon rise from this lanai. Count on seeing rainbows daily as well. A keen eye will notice an occasional wild pig or two that come to feast on the park vegetation around dusk and right before sunrise. The living room side of the unit faces the beautifully landscaped garden area and pool. We love being on the second floor for all of these views and feel this is a wonderful home away from home. Everyone has always been friendly at the resort and that certainly includes owners Doug and Patti.
My husband and I had the pleasure of 2 relaxing weeks at Prince Kuhio, unit 2-9. As others have remarked, the unit was spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped, including paper towels and toilet paper for our entire stay as well as laundry detergent and fabric softener cloths. So nice to have laundry facilities right in the unit! The owners, Patti and Doug, were so very informative and accommodating of our questions and our comfort. Thank you both so much! This is a small, older property, although many of the units including 2-9 have been nicely updated! And I understand the pool was new just last year. The grounds and pool are lovely and the on-site manager does a great job of ensuring the outdoor area, including the BBQs, are spotless! This is across the street from the beach and the Beach House Restaurant which is amazing! Go in around 5 and you can get a table in the bar area for dinner without a reservation (children are permitted in much of this area).
As mentioned by others, the Roosters rule the Island. Ear Plugs may be helpful if you want to sleep later than 5am! Another heads up is that this property does not have an elevator, so keep that in mind at your Costco stop in Lihue! Whomever has to pack the stuff up the stairs will thank you!
We’ve stayed many times over the years in various units at PK but 2-9 was the most convenient. So many things made it so: a washer/dryer in the unit was the best thing, huge sand umbrella & cooler were often used, great shower pressure and fully stocked kitchen. PK is described as ‘basic comfort’ in many guide books but it is much more - the pool area (not much shade though) and grounds are beautiful, 3 gas grills and option of covered parking available, quiet guests and access to several beaches within walking distance all add up to superior comfort instead. We’ve never stayed on Kauai during ‘winter’ before and loved it - no humidity and got to see Prince Kuhio actitivies next door at the park as a bonus.
Having spent 3 weeks this last trip, we're planning on a month maybe next year. There is always something new to do here but it's always great to revisit old charms and also just lay back. That's a real vacation...
My wife and I had a wonderful time here for a week. We enjoyed the beautiful ocean views from the lanai. It was a short walk to the beach and nice snorkeling, as well as the wonderful Beach House restaurant. Its a short drive to Poipu Beach. The condo was superbly equipped, very clean & well maintained, and all as advertised in the VRBO listing. We'd love to come again for a return visit.
One traveler note-- Kauai has a lot of chickens (so does the big island), they call it Rooster country on the radio. If you are a very light sleeper (like me) bring your ear plugs which I did. I plugged them in during my over-night bathroom stop and this way the rooster early morning crowing did not wake me. However let me say my husband thought they were humorous, and now has rooster crowing on is iPhone ring tone!!
