About Bob

I have always loved log cabins. I lived in my first log cabin in Montana in 1972. There was no heat, nor running water. Except for the wood cook stove and the stream that ran past the cabin. My dog used to wake me in the mornings, in the winter, because his water bowl was frozen over,,,in the cabin.

We bought our first log cabin in Chimney Rock in 1993. It was a one room, 450 square foot cute little place with no heat nor air conditioning. I have loved this area for many years and have always thought about the cabins on Grey Log Cove and thought how much fun it would be to have a cabin there. Well, as sometimes dreams do come true...I bought a lot there in 2012 and the dream of having a cabin there is finally coming together. I think this is one of the nicest log homes, on definitely the nicest cove on the Lake Lure.

Bob purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Bob chose Blue Ridge Mountains

This is a very unique piece of property. It is right on the lake, on one of the nicest private coves on Lake Lure. You and your guests can take the canoe or kayaks out onto the cove for a nice peaceful paddle without having to get out onto the traffic of the Lake. Or if you choose, there are 8 restaurants, with nice bars, on the lake that you can canoe or kayak to. You can sunbath on the 32' long dock or the large wrap around deck.

Staying at 'The Lodge on Grey Log Cove' is an experience that you won't soon forget.

There is also a full basement with it's own Bath and shower, as well as a LIVING ROOM, WITH FRIDGE, FLAT SCREEN TV, POOL TABLE, FOOS BALL TABLE, AIR HOCKEY TABLE, PING PONG TABLE, AND BEAN BAG TOSS.

What makes this cabin unique

In building 'The Lodge on Grey Log Cove' I wanted to add some of the flavor of the West and the time I spent living in Montana near Yellowstone National Park, as well as some of the influences of my years living in Santa Fe New Mexico. This cabin is be like nothing some people have ever seen before. I wanted to keep with a 'Lodge' theme and I think it has come together pretty well.

One of the things I am most proud of is my Housekeeping staff. They are the best around. Also provided are on-site massage and baby sitting with advanced notice.

Breakfast is also provided. So don't rush out for something to eat on your first morning here. Relax, have some COFFEE and ORANGE JUICE on the deck while the HAM AND EGGS are cooking on the stove. Then taste some of my Housekeepers fresh homemade JAM, on an ENGLISH MUFFINS. Made Exclusively for the Guests of the 'Lodge on Grey Log Cove'. Also provided is free popcorn and a variety of DVD movies and a new 42' flat screen TV for your at home evening entertainment.

Also provided with the cabin's key is an 'Ingles Advantage' card. For discounts at the local grocery store. So they'll treat you like a local.

I know there are lots of places to stay on Lake Lure, but I wanted to provide more of an 'experience' to your vacation than just a place to spend the night. I've tried to add some simple 'extras' and things that you don't get at a regular 'canoe paddle on the wall' type of rental unit. This is a new log cabin, that was completed in the spring of 2014. It is a one of a kind, custom log cabin, with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, ceiling fans in every room, large closets, and many other custom features.

Also for your enjoyment is a full basement, with a Ping Pong table, Pool Table/Air Hockey Table, Foosball Table, Bean Bag Toss, Flat Screen TV, Refrigerator, and a Private Bath. Also many comfortable chairs and couches.

Treat yourself. Stay at 'The Lodge on Grey Log Cove'. You're worth it

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your cabin is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! We enjoyed our stay; however it was not long enough, but it never is. Mark & I will definitely be back. Thank you for all your help. We gave out a lot of your business cards. There were quite a few people from our group who were definitely interested in the cabin.

PS: Hillary ( the housekeeper) is very nice & helpful.

Beautiful Lake Home

  • 4 of 5

Coming here in the off season was okay. The house is beautiful! Game room a bit unfinished. No water to canoe in this year as the lake was drained down. Breakfast food in fridge was awesome to start our first morning with! This is a place for a family to play in for sure during the summer. We enjoyed the area very much! Chimney Rock was spectacular! Thank you, Bob, for the last minute accomodations...we truly appreciate it! Denise and Corey W.

Thanksgiving at the Lodge

  • 5 of 5

My family and I reunited for a long Thanksgiving weekend, and we felt so at home at the Lodge! The kitchen was completely stocked with everything we needed to prepare a full feast- every kind of utensils, bake-ware and serving dish that you could ever imagine needing was there. We enjoyed the breakfast that was waiting for us when we checked in, found all of the bedrooms to be delightful, and all five adults cozied up nicely on the huge comfy sectional. The location was extremely convenient to the charming Chimney Rock Village and several restaurants. I hadn't realized before booking that the property's driveway was directly off of the main highway, but it's a quiet area and we weren't bothered by any traffic noise. Bob, thank you for being a wonderful host and keeping us updated on the forest fires in the area. My family loved the Lodge and agreed that it would be a great place to reunite in the summer months, too!

Best location in Lake Lure

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Bob's cabin for two nights and three days and loved the cabin. The cabin was equipped with everything you would need and more for a getaway. The downstairs game room was great and the kayaks and canoes were perfect to check out the lake. The cabin is situated in a quiet cove and just around the corner from some magnificent views. We were only minutes away from some wonderful restaurants and very close to Chimney Rock. There is even a great stand that sells fresh fruit and jam across the street from the cabin which we visited and loved. The cabin was spotless upon our arrival including clean sheets and towels. The kitchen was especially wonderful with appliances and countertops that appear to be new and was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook with. We were especially grateful for the breakfast that Bob left for us to make for the next morning. Bob truly has thought of everything to include in the cabin and even included some great personal touches such as handcrafted soaps and wipes in the bathroom to remove makeup. Our favorite spot was the back porch over looking the lake which included plenty of chairs and tables for us to enjoy our coffee and breakfast in the morning. Bob was easy to contact and great to work with. I would highly recommend this cabin.

Great Lake House but come prepared!

  • 3 of 5

I will start out by saying that this house is prime location for Lake Lure. It's a great little private alcove of lake property and the house is a good size and the porches are stellar for sipping morning coffee and just gazing at the lake. It also includes the canoe and kayak which is a great addition even if you are not experienced with water activities.

I do have to mention though that for me, there are a few things I wish I would have been aware of before booking my trip. I took my 3 yr. old daughter (who had a great time) and my parents who are in their late 60's and don't get around very well. I was really hoping they would be able to go swimming in the lake, however the only way down to the lake from the house is a very steep and rocky (gravel) path that my husband, daughter and I had no trouble going up and down but my parents needed a lot of assistance and then off the dock, there are no stairs leading into the water but instead a very difficult ladder (looks almost like a pool ladder with very narrow steps that hurt your feet) to climb in and out of water and require one to pull themselves down and up out of the water. My parents were unable to get into the water due to this type of access. As I said for young folks, it's no problem at all and we had a blast but my parents could only sit on dock and watch.

Also, once we arrived the game room looked so fun and we were excited to play ping pong but noticed that there were only 2 balls out and they were both broken- so housekeeper eventually brought us a few new ones which was nice. Also- there is no way to access the game room from the house- you have to go down that steep gravel path to access. Bring your own coffee, salt and pepper (they had it but it was almost gone), foil/plastic wrap and shampoo and conditioner. Also- the remotes seemed to have batteries that needed changing so little details like that could be checked up on a bit more. A bar of soap is provided and breakfast items were left in fridge to make breakfast which was very thoughtful!

The grill is fantastic! It is high end and we were able to make a delicious meal on it! I was promised an early check in and when we got there, the cleaning crew was there and after speaking to Bob, he apologized and stated that someone had jumped in and booked between the time I requested the early check in and the day that we arrived, but all in all, we had a fantastic family trip in a beautiful cabin on Lake Lure.

Owner's Response: Hi Kathleen. Thank you again for staying and I appreciate your input. This is my third year renting this cabin and all my reviews have been great, except this one, so I wanted to address your issues. About the Lake access issue for your parents. The ladder is a regular pool type ladder, and no one has complained before. You can also access the lake from the shore. But everyone, even some guests in their 80’s found that the cabin, with the entire living area, i.e. living room, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, the large wrap around deck, and bbq grill located on one floor with only 2 steps from the parking area find it very accessibly friendly. Regarding the ping pong balls. When you reached out to me about that issue I responded immediately, to tell you where spares were, but you didn’t respond back. My housekeeper has access to my email so she reached out to me as well. I told her I was waiting to hear back from you so I could tell you where more were, but in the meantime she took it upon herself to go to the store, buy more and deliver them to you, personally. You have to agree the problem was solved within minutes, but your terminology for her act of kindness was, “eventually.” I don’t understand that. Also I provide for your first mornings breakfast, English Muffins, a half dozen Eggs, Canadian Bacon, a quart of Orange Juice, Coffee, and Fresh Jam. And your feedback is No Salt and Pepper. I also provide hand crafted soaps for each guest made by a local woman. And your response is No Shampoo or Conditioner. Go figure. Regarding early check ins. At no additional charge to my guests, when available, I may offer an early check in. In this case someone got on line and hit the “book it now” button and booked the night before you. This was my fault. I should have never promised you and early check in. It puts unneeded pressure on my staff and in this case, it only ended up being a problem. But even with that hick-up you were still able to check in an hour early. I take peoples vacations and their reviews very seriously. But I must say I was disappointed with the ranking you gave me. In light of the fact that we did communicate with each other. This is the lowest rating I’ve ever received. Respectfully, ~Bob
