This is a Beautiful New Log Home On The Nicest Private Cove On Lake Lure.
I have always loved log cabins. I lived in my first log cabin in Montana in 1972. There was no heat, nor running water. Except for the wood cook stove and the stream that ran past the cabin. My dog used to wake me in the mornings, in the winter, because his water bowl was frozen over,,,in the cabin. We bought our first log cabin in Chimney Rock in 1993. It was a one room, 450 square foot cute little place with no heat nor air conditioning. I have loved this area for many years and have always thought about the cabins on Grey Log Cove and thought how much fun it would be to have a cabin there. Well, as sometimes dreams do come true...I bought a lot there in 2012 and the dream of having a cabin there is finally coming together. I think this is one of the nicest log homes, on definitely the nicest cove on the Lake Lure.
Bob purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Bob chose Lake Lure
This is a very unique piece of property. It is right on the lake, on one of the nicest private coves on Lake Lure. You and your guests can take the canoe or kayaks out onto the cove for a nice peaceful paddle without having to get out onto the traffic of the Lake. Or if you choose, there are 8 restaurants, with nice bars, on the lake that you can canoe or kayak to. You can sunbath on the 32' long dock or the large wrap around deck. Staying at 'The Lodge on Grey Log Cove' is an experience that you won't soon forget. There is also a full basement with it's own Bath and shower, as well as a LIVING ROOM, WITH FRIDGE, FLAT SCREEN TV, POOL TABLE, FOOS BALL TABLE, AIR HOCKEY TABLE, PING PONG TABLE, AND BEAN BAG TOSS.
What makes this Cabin unique
In building 'The Lodge on Grey Log Cove' I wanted to add some of the flavor of the West and the time I spent living in Montana near Yellowstone National Park, as well as some of the influences of my years living in Santa Fe New Mexico. This cabin is be like nothing some people have ever seen before. I wanted to keep with a 'Lodge' theme and I think it has come together pretty well. One of the things I am most proud of is my Housekeeping staff. They are the best around. Also provided are on-site massage and baby sitting with advanced notice. Breakfast is also provided. So don't rush out for something to eat on your first morning here. Relax, have some COFFEE and ORANGE JUICE on the deck while the HAM AND EGGS are cooking on the stove. Then taste some of my Housekeepers fresh homemade JAM, on an ENGLISH MUFFINS. Made Exclusively for the Guests of the 'Lodge on Grey Log Cove'. Also provided is free popcorn and a variety of DVD movies and a new 42' flat screen TV for your at home evening entertainment. Also provided with the cabin's key is an 'Ingles Advantage' card. For discounts at the local grocery store. So they'll treat you like a local. I know there are lots of places to stay on Lake Lure, but I wanted to provide more of an 'experience' to your vacation than just a place to spend the night. I've tried to add some simple 'extras' and things that you don't get at a regular 'canoe paddle on the wall' type of rental unit. This is a new log cabin, that was completed in the spring of 2014. It is a one of a kind, custom log cabin, with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, ceiling fans in every room, large closets, and many other custom features. Also for your enjoyment is a full basement, with a Ping Pong table, Pool Table/Air Hockey Table, Foosball Table, Bean Bag Toss, Flat Screen TV, Refrigerator, and a Private Bath. Also many comfortable chairs and couches. Treat yourself. Stay at 'The Lodge on Grey Log Cove'. You're worth it

Lovely home but ask questions
I rented this home 6 months in advance for an October family wedding nearby, needing 3 beds/3 baths for the 4 adults in our family group. To my shock I discovered that the one bath listed in the basement was not connected to the upstairs of the house, you have to exit, go out and around the deck to the two stairways that lead down to the lower level. What??? The owner's response was, "well, there were 2 upstairs bathrooms".
Also, the owner is very strict about when you can enter the house, I asked for an early check-in and was granted entry at 3pm. I got to the house at 2:05 and seeing no cleaning crew car I decided to stop and I entered with electronic keypad. Big mistake apparently, you don't enter before your time and my communication with owner went downhill after that (there were a few maintenance issues when I arrived and I was accused of causing them (lightbulbs out, clogged sink)).
The moral of my story, never assume the two parts of the house are connected (I should have asked questions), never rent through Homeaway or VRBO because they don't care that descriptions are accurate or omitted.
Road noise is present as mentioned in previous reviews, you'll want your white noise app. House is located on a curve that is blind so leaving the property is tricky and not for the faint of heart.
The upstairs is comfortable and spacious, the thermostat electronic so easy to set the temp you want, the beds are high but comfortable with nice touches although putting an extra nightstand and lamp in two of the bedrooms would help for those who read in bed, it feels very western and cozy. We needed the fireplace and it was a welcome addition.
I did leave a necklace behind and the owner was kind enough to send it back to me.
Just a point of clarification. The "downstairs"...basement, gameroom IS connected to the house. And there are 3 bedrooms and 2 baths upstairs, and one bathroom downstairs. Total 3. No other guests in the past 7 years have had an issue with that. I offer my guests an early check in check in whenever possible. And I dont just make up a time. I check with my housekeeper for a time when the cabin will be ready. She said 3 pm. Your lack of following instructions doesnt constitute a communication issue on my end. I gave you an hour early and you tried to make it 2 hours. Well, some people you give them an inch and they will take what they can. Your request for an early check in was because you were worried about the weather, darkness and mountain roads. I checked the weather and knew the weather was going to be good, I knew the Sun wouldn't go down until 7:00 p.m. so a four o'clock check in would have been adequate for you. The cabin is only a mile from the grocery store. But I gave you what I could anyway. And yes, you did leave behind a necklace. My housekeeper retrieved it and I returned it to you.
Extended Family Weekend
We had an awesome time this past weekend. There were 6 of us and we had plenty of room. Chimney Rock is just a few minutes down the road and we even visited Asheville. We had a blast in the basement playing pool and ping pong. The house is very well stocked with almost everything you will need. Bob is awesome to work with!!!
The cabin was exactly how it is pictured. It was sparking clean and contained everything you needed for your stay. We loved exploring the lake on the canoe and kayaks. Highly recommend!!
A great problem to have!
What a charming place! Beautiful, spacious log cabin in a quiet cove, perfect for swimming, sunning, and relaxing. Equipped with all the amenities plus some! (Well-equipped with appliances for preparing any type of meal, washer and dryer, grill, microwave, stove and oven, etc.) (Pool table, table tennis, fussball table, two televisions with DVD, Dish, movies including 'Dirty Dancing' and 'Last of the Mohicans' and more). Large deck overlooking the cove, 3 wonderful bedrooms, 3 full baths, vaulted ceiling, wood paneling, large master bath tub/shower. Two kayaks and a canoe on a large pier. The location is ideal for visiting Chimney Rock and other scenic areas, and yet close to a wonderful grocery store. So, what's the problem? My twin 13-year-old daughters had such a great time as did my wife and I that they remarked that we need to buy a place just like this!! We recommend HIGHLY! Thank you, Bob (owner)!
Peaceful, welcoming, comfortable, clean, and well-stocked lake cabin. Beds were comfy and the floors were sparkling! A perfect place for a girls weekend. Bob’s cabin is located on a cove which has a protected area to paddle around and swim, which was great! The water views are not as expansive as if you were on the main part of the lake, but it was still a water view. Home is close to the little town of Chimney Rock and to the Ingles supermarket. Bob, the owner, was super responsive.
Lake Lure noted by National Geographic Magazine as, 'One of the 10 most Beautiful Man Made Lakes in the World.' Also Chimney Rock Park was noted by USA Today, Travel as, 'One of the 10 Best High Places in the World.'
