About the property

Fabulous 3BR, 1 Bath In-Town Location - Walk Everywhere!

This is our home, and we would love to share it with you! Located on Federal Street, Moose Manor is a 1904 New England-style house with all the upgrades and conveniences of modern living. Freshly painted throughout with exquisite, fully-equipped designer kitchen and a fully updated bath. All the comforts of home in one perfect location, walking distance to everything.

There are 3 bedrooms which comfortably sleep 6. One bedroom has a queen bed, the second has one full and twin bed, and the third has a twin. There is one bathroom (with a wonderful claw-foot tub!) on the second floor. Each bedroom includes wall mirrors to reduce demand for bathroom mirror time. Master bedroom includes a dressing table with light/mirror. All bedrooms have abundant sunshine and ocean breezes.

The front of the house features a wonderful enclosed porch with a bistro table/chairs, rocker and futon. Perfect for morning coffee or an afternoon nap. The soft sound of local seagulls is often present.

In the back of the house, just off the kitchen, you'll find a small wood deck with a Weber grill and chairs to enjoy the cool afternoon breeze while your steak is grilling.

The kitchen has everything you'll need if you choose to prepare some of your own meals during your stay, including some basic pantry items for your use. Top-of-the-line small appliances (including Bunn coffee maker!) are available as well. Other items include Belgian waffle maker, 4 slice Cuisinart toaster, blender, food-processor, Crock Pot, pots/pans and bake-ware as well as an OVER-SIZED lobster pot for boiling your own 'catch' right at home! Easy instructions provided.

Although you'll probably want to get out and enjoy all that Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park has to offer, the home is also supplied with 'rainy day items' should you choose to stay indoors. 32' LCD TV, DVD player, iPod dock/radio, and a wide selection of books, DVDs and games are available for your enjoyment.

About Paul Strathman

We are Paul and Joy Strathman and we have lived in the Midwest for the past 20 years. It all began when we took a trip to Maine, simply because we'd never been there before.

Since then, we've been back to various parts of Coastal Maine every year and while we enjoy all the towns we've visited, we have fallen hopelessly in love with Bar Harbor. As so often happens when one visits a very special place, one's mind wanders into the possibilities of someday living there.

Our home in Bar Harbor is truly a dream come true. This 1904 New England-style residence is perfectly located right in town; walking distance to everything. We have filled Moose Manor with things we love and have included all the comforts that we enjoy when we are there. We hope that you will enjoy our very special home and likewise fall in love with Bar Harbor.

What makes this house unique

While on one of our early visits to Bar Harbor, we went for a walk. As we passed by this house, my wife said, 'Paul, please buy me that porch!' We both chuckled and continued our walk. Little did we know that we would not only someday buy the porch, but the wonderful home which sits behind it as well!

This inviting home has been lovingly cared for by each owner since the house was built in 1904. We are only the 4th family to own this property. The warmth and charm of Moose Manor is captivating and it's fabulous location cannot be beat!

Perfect House for First Bar Harbor Trip

  • 5 of 5

Moose Manor had everything our family wanted for our first-ever trip to Maine. It had a charming "Maine" feel, was well provisioned, and was tucked away in unbeatable location.

With three bedrooms, we had more than enough space to spread out. We sipped coffee on the front porch every morning; enjoyed cocktails on the shaded back deck/patio at night; played board games in the dining room and caught a couple of dvd movies in the living room.

The little back mudroom was great for wet shoes, coolers, and organization. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a ton of meals at home, including every breakfast and even a full lobster dinner. We also used the outdoor grill for burgers one night.

The exterior of the house and the quiet street it sits on are both adorable. It's also close enough to the harbor that you can catch a glimpse of the water between neighboring houses, smell the sea air, and hear boat horns and bells in the morning.

Sitting a block off the main drag Cottage Street, we could walk to everything in 3 minutes: restaurants, bike and kayak outfitters, our lobster boat ride, cafes, the pharmacy, grocery store, bars, shops, the shore path and entrances to parts of Acadia. One day, we walked to a bike shop, rented bikes, and peddled to Acadia for a three-hour ride around Eagle lake without needing our car for any of it.

The owners left great instructions for the house and excellent recommendations for restaurants and activities. They were also very responsive to questions.

If the price fits your budget and the sleeping capacity matches your needs, I would recommend this property for anyone making their first trip to Bar Harbor. The only thing that would keep us from returning would be our curiosity to try and see something new.

A wonderful home and location!

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing home! It's around the corner from all the shops and activities in Bar Harbor, yet off the main road so there's no traffic. It has a driveway to park your car but you can walk to everything in Bar Harbor itself. The owners, Paul and Joy, have thought of everything. Need matches to light the grill? They're in a drawer. Bandaids for the kids? There's a little first aid kit. It was the most convenient vacation we've ever had because the owners thought about every detail. The house is immaculate and there are plenty of books and games in the living room shelves. We liked the enclosed porch for coffee / enjoying the sunshine in the morning. We'd recommend Jordan's Restaurant just down the street. Stop into Bee's Candy a block down for a neat candy / yarn shop. Bottom line is that this is a wonderful rental property and a great vacation spot!

PERFECT HOME AND LOCATION!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This being our 3rd straight year and using Homeaway (VRBO) all 3 years we had chosen 3 different homes. What they say about the third time being the charm was certainly the case. The location is PERFECT, you can easily walk to the sand bar, downtown shops, and grocery store without a problem. We only needed to drive when going into Acadia for our hiking each day. The house has a lot of character , has all of the amenities our family needed (which is difficult to do with a 11 and 8 year old) and most importantly to me as someone with a bad back - the beds were fantastic. We will definitely stay at the Moose Manor again, and suggest you do the same.

Moose Manor

  • 5 of 5

This house and its hosts are excellent! You can walk just a block or two and hop on the shuttle to tour Acadia National Park, have your pick of any restaurant, souvenier shop, walk the shore path, see a movie, take a boat cruise... the house is right in the town and is quintessential Bar Harbour. Cozy enclosed front porch, wonderful kitchen and dining area and wood stove to keep you warm. We even made our own lobsters one night. The home is exceptionally clean and well appointed. It has everything you need including a barbque pit, and nice patio area. You will have the perfect stay! I definitely want to come back!

Fall in Maine

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful home and location! The home was very clean and well appointed in bath and kitchen. The family room area was very comfortable and the front porch was a favorite. The location was great with a short walk to everything one could want with restaurants and shopping. The harbor was only a few blocks walk and I was there often to people watch or walk along the shore. Next time I want to take my extended family to share the beauty of Bar Harbor.

Stunning Fall Display in a quaint harbor town

  • 5 of 5

I had never had the opportunity to visit Maine. A fall trip to Barharbor came highly recommended. We arrived at Moose Manor after a day's travel culminating in a beautiful flight on Cape air. The accommodations were fantastic! The house is warm and oh so comfortable!! The home is in walking distance of the town and all it offers. There are shuttles that transport you to Acadia National Park for hiking and sight seeing. Maine in the fall is stunning. I don't think there was a better place to stay than Moose Manor. The house location is perfect; the home has everything you need for your stay;and it is like staying in your own home. If you have a longing to go to Barharbor, Maine in the fall or at any time, I recommend staying at Moose Manor.

Owner's Response: Welcome to Maine, Kitty! Yes, Cape Air is certainly a scenic way to arrive in Down East Maine. So good to hear that our home gave you a comfortable base from which to explore Bar Harbor and all that Acadia National Park has to offer. Being your first trip to Maine, it's nice that you were greeted with the bold Fall colors that this part of New England is known for. Please come back again! Paul & Joy
