About Marie Yarborough

We have lived in Bar Harbor for over 15 years. Marie began working at the Jordan Pond House during summers, earning money to pay for college. After traveling to France to visit family, a road-trip across the United States, and finishing graduate school she moved to MDI for good. Kyle came to Acadia after graduating from college in the South. He planned to work in different national parks across the country. After working in Glacier National Park in Montana, he headed to Acadia for one season, where Marie and Kyle's paths finally crossed. The rest is history! We now own and operate a small bistro in Bar Harbor and Marie is a Ranger at Acadia. We feel lucky to call this amazing place home, and could not imagine raising our young family anywhere else.

Marie Yarborough purchased this house in 2011

Why Marie Yarborough chose Mount Desert Island

This property is close to everything wonderful about in-town Bar Harbor, but still quiet and residential-the best of both worlds. You can sleep with your windows open and smell the ocean when you wake. It is modern, clean, uncluttered, and filled with all the amenities you'll need to make your stay relaxing. We have a personal and professional knowledge of the park and MDI, and would love to share our favorite spots to enjoy the park and island with you.

What makes this house unique

You won't find an easier, more convenient place to stay in Bar Harbor, if you are a family or a couple! You can walk to the Great Meadow Path right from the cottage, or hop in your car to access the Park Loop Road in 5 minutes, at the end of our street.

Great Summer Vacation Spot Close to Town

  • 5 of 5

The quaint, quiet cottage was a wonderful get away for our family of four. We enjoyed being so close to town but also being right next to Acadia. The owners were gracious host and we were sad to leave. Look forward to going back some day!

Great week in Bar Harbor.

  • 5 of 5

The home was well equipped and was quite comfortable. We came to bike in Acadia and found an easy route to the park on low traffic streets which made for delightful early morning rides. Our hosts were most accommodating giving us good recommendations on local restaurants and tours. Would stay here again for sure.

a comfortable stay in Bar Harbor

  • 4 of 5

The Chickadee cottage was a comfortable stay for our family of 4. The neighborhood was quiet and within walking distance to the town and activities. Communication with the owners was positive and prompt. Having extra living space and kitchen facilities makes this a better place to stay than renting a room. I would consider this rental again if we return to the area. Thank you Marie!

Clean, convenient, well-stocked, first rate appliances

  • 5 of 5

About a mile by car or bike (or foot) from the Garden Ranger Station in Acadia NP - the location street goes straight into the park. (We found the Carriage Trails more to our suiting than the hiking trails, but there are guides for both on a small table near the kitchen). Downtown Bar Harbor is about a half-mile away by foot. The town is a great support to a visit to the area, which is a great destination. The park is beautiful and it is well-supported by the Friends of Acadia. Be aware that this is generally a cool weather destination for summer visitors. Bring a jacket and more to layer for wind and cool temps.

The property was clean and inviting, and the communication with the owner was prompt and precise. The grounds are well maintained and attractive. The outdoor grill functioned wonderfully and it is easy to use. It was a great destination for our family of four, and we were very pleased with the functioning of all the items furnished. The owner lives in the front house on the property, and a driveway is shared with one of their vehicles, but this worked well. Clean, comfortable, warm and inviting.

Would stay again in a heartbeat!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for two weeks, our first time staying in Bar Harbor. The house was the perfect size for my husband and me and our two kids. Marie, the homeowner, was extremely attentive to our son's need for room darkening shades, the house had everything from towels to hand soap and dishwasher soap. The location was quiet, comfortable with the occasional baseball game a block away where we often took the kids to the playground. The house is right around the corner from the natural spring wading pool and just a few blocks from town, in addition to being super close to Cadillac mountain where we picked blueberries often. Just an overall positive experience for our family!!

Perfect for our family

  • 4 of 5

This was a perfect spot for our family of 5. The house was comfortable, clean with all the necessary amenities (beds were particularly comfy) and the price was reasonable. The living room was a bit small for 5 but we didn't spend much time in the house so that wasn't a big issue. We were on a tight budget and made a lot of meals at home and the kitchen was well stocked with necessary cooking items. The location is perfect..walking distance to everything in town and easy access to Acadia (the free shuttle service to the park is a big plus). The home owner was very responsive to any questions or needs we had. We had a fabulous time exploring Bar Harbor and its surrounding areas. The highlights were Acadia, boat tour to outer islands, kayaking on lakes. We had a great time and would definitely return.
