About the property

Mountain Home, 3bdrm, 2 full baths, Resort Community (Everyone is on 1-2 acres)

Welcome to Wildernest Retreat at Elk Crossing! Surrounded by 2 acres of tall Pines and Aspens. Enjoy the year-around hot tub and lava bowl, woodstove, DIRECTV (main level), the lakes, fishing and boating (seasonal). OHV trails are within 2 miles of our retreat! Perfect for the outdoor enthusiast! New WiFi carrier - now unlimited (as of Nov. 2016).

Located within 5 miles of groceries, restaurants, and gas stations. We are conveniently located near Pikes Peak, Cripple Creek, Woodland Park and approximately 25 minutes to Manitou Springs/Garden of the Gods/Colorado Springs. This property has just added a land line that makes it easy to call about the local attractions.

After a day of cross country skiing, hiking, white water rafting, fishing or enjoying the nearby attractions come back to our cabin and enjoy the fully stocked kitchen (new Kuerig coffee maker), and the view from the deck while grilling on the gas grill. Enjoy the stars from the hot tub while watching the flames of the lava bowl dance in the evening sky. You see no other homes anywhere from the location of the hot tub. It is private and surrounded by forest and wildlife. Enjoy your favorite shows our HDTV 50" TV, and check out our selection of movies. Our retreat has 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, living room, family room, kitchen, dining and laundry room with large washer/dryers.

At the lakes (located only a half a mile away) there are several picnic benches, and volleyball net. There is ample parking next to the lake if you prefer to drive. Drop a line in the lake to fish during the summer months and go ice fishing in the winter- timing varies based on when the ice is thick enough. There is a nominal fee for fishing and NO Colorado license is required. The lake is open for fishing from May through October 31st! We provide the poles, tackle and bait. Also, we have two different kinds of boats for you to enjoy on the lakes in the Summertime- no extra charge. One is a 14ft rowboat, and the other one is a new pedal boat.

This retreat is supplied with a binder filled with information about the property as well as the local area! This includes brochures on area attractions.

About Henry and Robin Reed

Hi, Henry and I (Robin) have lived in Colorado for 25 years and love the Rocky Mountains. It has been a wonderful place to raise our kids. We have explored many of the attractions here and there are things for all ages to enjoy!

When we moved to Colorado, we could hardly wait until our children were old enough to explore with us. When their grandparents retired here, they began teaching them how to fish for trout at the Rampart Range Reservoir. Being able to catch their limit has never been an issue!

We hope that you take the time to come to Colorado to relax, have fun and make some great memories!

Henry and Robin Reed purchased this house in 2013

Why Henry and Robin Reed chose Divide

We spent a lot of time looking for a special place to get away and relax. When we found this property, we fell in love with the lakes, views and wildlife. Each time we have stayed here we have had deer come into the backyard early morning and evening.

Having a place large enough for our immediate and extended family was important in case we wanted to get away to celebrate a special occasion. This mountain home's layout lends itself to privacy for more than one family.

Be ready for a photo opportunity when driving to the house because elk herds frequent the area!

Pack a picnic lunch and sit by the lake! There are several covered picnic benches and a bathroom by the lake as well. Drop a fishing line in the lake and catch a trout (we provide the poles and tackle)!

What makes this house unique

This is the only cabin in the area where we pre-purchase fishing passes for our guests, provide two different types of boats to enjoy (at no extra charge) and provide poles, bait and tackle. NO Colorado fishing license is required and the lakes are stocked twice a Summer with a variety of trout. Come try and catch a Golden Trout...it HAS been done!

Perfect Getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a lovely, clean, and relaxing home for your getaway, then look no further. When we arrived the house was sparkling clean and freshly decorated for Christmas with a beautiful tree, stockings and exterior lights. Henry and Robin go the extra mile to add little touches, like mints, sparkling grape juice and obtaining an extra set of snowshoes for our family, they are wonderful owners. The house had ample room for 5 adults, was fully stocked and has a warm environment. The hot tub was a real treat after being outside all day. We enjoyed the visits from the deer and our daughters were able to hand feed most of them some apples and oatmeal treats, it was such a delight to watch. The newly installed wi-fi was really fast.

You could stay at the home and not leave Divide, but the location provides access to many great local attractions. Colorado Springs is about 45 minutes away. The Broadmoor Golden Bee is a fun place to eat and stay for the sing-a-long which starts at 9:30pm. If you are looking for fantastic Italian then checkout Luigis. We spent a day in Buena Vista, CO at Mt Princeton Hot Springs Resort, which was totally amazing and relaxing. Breckenride and Monarch are only 1.75 hours away and offer fantastic skiing.

The hiking and snowshoeing opportunities are numerous. Checkout Mueller Start Park and the Crags which are only a few miles from Divide. My son and I snowshoed the Hoosier, Boreass and Monarch Passes and were treated to the most amazing vistas.

We have stayed in many VRBO properties with great success. Our experience at this home was the very best! It was the perfect place for our family to rest, restore and reconnect with each other.

The Reeds are friendly and responsive and continually trying to upgrade their home. Robin even left candy because she knew I was concerned about getting trick or treaters. They make the process and your stay as stress free as possible. Everything was comfy and well maintained. The kitchen has EVERYTHING. We especially loved access to fishing and the boats -we laughed til we cried! My daughter had great luck. (But if you're reading this after 10/31- sad face) . Cell phone reception is tricky but Henry is trying to install a booster. Wifi was actually impressive for the mountains. The hot tub -one word- blissful😌򓀮My only regret about my stay was not enuf time to enjoy it thoroughly! Happy trails and many blessings - Cindy

Owner's Response: Thanks Cindy! So glad you enjoyed the lakes, and fishing! I loved the picture of the huge German Brown Trout your daughter caught (it looked to be about 17 inches!) Those lakes are stocked twice a Summer. We added a landline and a new Keurig Coffee maker this Fall. Thanks so much for choosing our retreat! Looking forward to seeing you again! Sincerely, Henry and Robin

Beautiful home, all things necessary ... a true retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This home is absolutely perfect ... I've never stayed in a home so well-equipped! It's beautifully kept (clean as a whistle, seriously) and has everything you might need if you want to cook at home and if you're staying for any extended period of time. My husband and I stayed there (though there would have been plenty of room for 2 more couples) ... We were greeted by some goodies & a welcome note for our anniversary ... it was so sweet & super thoughtful! Robin texted us the second day we got there to ensure we had everything we needed.

The home is situated in a private setting with some woodlands in the back. One day while sitting in the hot tub, we found ourselves next to 3 deer (2 adults, 1 baby) eating right next to us! Awesome. Also spotted a fox, more deer, muskrat, some beautiful birds, and that turkey in the tree (that we realized was fake once we jumped out of the hot tub to get a camera). The squirrel house right near the upper deck gives you a great view of an adorable family that lives in there. If you're into cows ... there are also cows to be seen.

Only a short distance away, you have all stores you could need (and some restaurants ... go to McGinty's Wood Oven Pub!) Cave of the Winds and other historic sites are really close. Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs are also within a close drive ... so there's much to do! If you're trying to get out of the house, we recommend: Phantom Canyon Road, Cave Dwellings, Garden of the Gods, & Pikes Peak.

Robin & Henry - thank you for making our trip a special one and giving us a place to call home while we were far away from ours.

Cozy, clean and great place to stay

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is spacious, with a great layout and the welcome note made us feel at home. The property is very accessible to many of local attractions and still allowed us to relax after adventurous outings. Fishing in the private lakes was a plus for our group. Pikes Peak can be seen from the lake and using the paddle boat was fun to toddle around. Daily visits from deer was something we looked forward to. Hot tub was an added bonus. Even with Wifi being spotty and little to no cell phone service we plan to return and would recommend this property to all who enjoy what Colorado has to offer.

Owner's Response: Thanks Tina for the nice review and for choosing our place to stay this past September. I wanted to provide an update: As of November 2016, we have changed internet carriers and added a landline too. Our guests that stayed with us over Thanksgiving said that the new unlimited wireless was great. We asked them to really test it for us. We hope you will recommend us, and would love to have you back anytime!!!! Thank you, Robin and Henry Reed

Lovely home.

  • 5 of 5

My family (4 adults and 2 children) had a wonderful and comfortable stay. The house is out in the country, but close enough for day trips to sites in Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs. I recommend trips to Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Seven Falls, and the World War II Aviation museum in Colorado Springs. There is a grocery store in Divide that has the basic things we needed. We saw a lot of wildlife while there. A mule deer almost took an apple from my hand right off the front porch, but she was too scared. My family really enjoyed the hot tub. The internet is slow and Verizon cellphone service is difficult to get, but we were there to get away from all that. The house was very clean with plenty of towels and comfortable beds. I highly recommend the house to getaway from your busy life and relax for a while.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review!! I am happy to hear that you found the beds comfortable and enjoyed the location and wildlife. It's great you were able to check out so many of the attractions in the Pikes Peak area too. We are switching out our internet provider and expect to have even better speeds. We are one of the few cabins in the area that offer the amenities that we do, because we like to enjoy our retreat when it is not booked - so, for us it is our home away from home! Please keep us in mind if you head back out this way! Thank you again, Robin and Henry
