Jim and Julie Gretz purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Jim and Julie Gretz chose Woodland Park

Our newly remodeled home was a diamond in the rough. We have dreamed of retireing in Colorado with a view of the mountains. This little gem afforded us the ability to view the mountains with all the conveniences at our doorstep. After traveling in Colorado over the years, we stayed in the area in the Summer of 2016 and fell in love with Woodland Park.

Woodland Park known as the "City Above the Clouds" offers a small town atmosphere, friendily people and Pikes Peak at your doorstep.

What makes this cabin unique

You will love this property with a completly remodeled interior that was our vision of comfort and a place to relax and see the mountains and wildlife. You will see some of my husbands handywork of a barn door he built for the bathroom to the fireplace mantel he picked out at the local saw mill and contructed as you push the button to enjoy a toasty warm fire.

A natural gas firepit and grill will allow our guests the ease of enjoying the outdoor patio with farmily or friends. When you are tired of hiking, golfing site seeing, visiting a child at the USAFA, off-roading or whatever activity fills your day, it will be time to relax in the hot tub. This diamond in the rough is a treasure you will not want to miss.

Cozy Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here as a family vacation getaway and it was great! The house was clean and had all kinds of extras that made it so much more enjoyable. Extras included nice/newer appliances, hot tub, gas fire pit, towels, soaps, toiletries, condiments, etc. Almost made it feel like you were still at home.

The location was nice for us and honestly I think it benefited us mid-westerners to stay in Woodland Park at 8,000+ feet of elevation when we went back down to Manitou Springs to hike. It was also nice having grocery stores, gas stations, and restaurants all right next door. However, overall the location stays very quiet, and like others have mentioned deer usually visit the house at night. It was hilarious to watch our dog just sit at the glass doors and watch them for hours.

I'd definitely recommend staying here!

If you are visiting the area try The Hungry Bear restaurant as well! Delicious! It may also benefit you to know you're about 20 minutes from Manitou Springs, 30 minutes Colorado Springs, and hour 15 minutes from Canon City.

Lastly, the Gretz were great host! Julie will respond immediately if you have any questions or concerns. They also provide you with a 3 ring binder with a lot of useful information in it about how things around the house work. Thank you Jim and Julie for being such great hosts and keeping your property in such great shape!

Perfect summer vacation home get-away!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in this cabin in Woodland Park, CO. It was in a very cute and cozy small town, that was an easy drive to everywhere we wanted to go. Every day we found a new destination that was an easy drive away. You can get to Pike's Peak, Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, and other local attractions very easily. The drive is absolutely beautiful too! We were worried about the cabin not having air conditioning but it was 100% not necessary at all. When we opened the windows and turned on the fans, the cabin was the perfect temperature. In fact, we even had to turn on the fireplace a few times because it got so cool. The cabin has been nicely upgraded and was extremely comfortable. The beds were nice, the couches were great, the kitchen was well stocked with dishes/silverware/etc. The bathroom was nicely upgraded with a lovely shower/tub (nice water pressure too!) We did our laundry in the upgraded machines and came home with clean clothes! There were a mama deer and two baby deer that greeted us daily, the kids loved this. The hot tub/spa was a nice way to relax in the evening. There's a Walmart around the corner for groceries and restaurants/convenience stores within walking distance. It should be noted that the pictures on google search are old, don't even look at them! This cabin was perfect for our family of four! It was easy to find! I would absolutely recommend staying in this cabin. We might try to rent it again in the winter time. I felt like I was in my own home.

Perfect!!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we walked in the door we knew we had made the right choice! This house is beautiful!!! The house is so cozy and the decor is so nice. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything we could need. The view....amazing!! We enjoyed having every meal on the patio with a view of Pike's Peak. We got to see deer every single day in the yard. The most unexpected part was when my daughter went into the guest room to open the window. She came to me saying there was a mama deer out there with her newborn baby. Much to our surprise we got to watch her deliver a second little one!! It was one of the most amazing things we had ever seen!!!

The location was perfect for us. There are several shops and restaurants within walking distance. We had breakfast one morning at the Hungry Bear and it was so good and very well priced. There is a City Market grocery store within walking distance as well.

We enjoyed doing lots of sight-seeing, going up Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods and Seven Falls. We also took a day trip to Canon City and went white water rafting!! It was so much fun. We also enjoyed the fire pit in the evenings.

Julie, the owner, was so easy to work with and always answered our questions quickly. This was one of the best trips our family has ever taken. We are a family of 4 and this cabin was the perfect size for us. We will hopefully be going back within the next year.

There is not one bad thing I could say about this house or our experience with the owners!! We were sad to leave but can't wait to go back!!!
