About Kathy Pehanich
My husband and I have been married for 40 years. We met in high school in Southern CA. and have been together ever since. I am a healthcare professional, and my husband recently retired from the construction industry. We have 3 children, and 6 grandchildren. Hoping for more soon. Like most folks, we just want peace and happiness for our family and friends. We were fortunate enough to be able to purchase this home where we have made many memories when family gathers for holidays, or just to unwind for a few days.
Kathy Pehanich purchased this House in 2008
Why Kathy Pehanich chose Grand Lake
We chose Grand Lake for several reasons. If you go into the village, you won't see fast food chain restaurants or neon lights. That said, you can get a gourmet meal if you choose to do so. We enjoy boating and fishing on the 3 nearby lakes, reservoir and several rivers. On the flip side, there are countless outdoor activities year around. Also, within an easy 30 minute drive is the world renounced ski resort of Winter Park. Within 20 minutes is the smaller more intimate resort of Sol Vista. To sum it up, Grand Lake has it all without the hustle and bustle of most resort areas.
What makes this House unique
When we pulled up to view this home, the first thing we noticed was the sound of gently flowing water. The house itself was immaculate to the point that we thought it was new construction. For us, it was a no brainier. In the Summer, we open the windows and go to sleep to the sounds of the river. It also doesn't hurt to go out the back door and go fishing.

We a wonderful, relaxing time. Right off the river, moose sightings from the patio! It's also a quick drive to town and Shadow Mountain lake. Thinking about it, just book it!

So glad you enjoyed your stay at River’s Edge!
My family and I had a wonderful getaway weekend at your beautiful home!! Very spacious with great amenities and fabulous outdoor views!! Especially loved sitting out on the back porch with a cup of coffee and listening to the sounds of the river.
So serene and peaceful.
Fantastic Mountain Setting!
My family had a reunion in the Grand Lake area and we stayed at Gary's home for 3-4 days. Had a great time; the home is wonderful, spacious, well-kept and a fantastic setting next to the mountain stream. We even saw a moose right across the stream on the first morning! We wholeheartedly endorse Gary's home as a great place to stay when in the area. Gary was very accommodating, called me a couple times to make sure details were handled and made sure we were well accommodated. You can rent from Gary with a high degree of confidence!
Heaven in the Rockies!!
We spent a memorable week here (July 28-Aug. 4). Our group consisted of my wife & I, 28 yr. old son, another son plus his wife and their 2 1/2 yr. old daughter. The port-a-crib provided was most welcome and well used. Gary provided us with all the info necessary to make our stay hassle free and was very helpful in our early days of choosing a house and planning our trip. He responded quickly to our questions. We were attending a family reunion near the Ouray ranch which was about 7 miles from the house. We spent part of 2 days in Rocky Mt. National Park - mornings were best for this - avoiding the afternoon clouds, crowds, and occasional thunderstorms. We fished the branch of the Colorado River right behind the house - what a delight! We ate at a few of the restaurants in Grand Lake and never had a bad meal. There was plenty of space for the 6 of us - the master bedroom & bath downstairs was fantastic. It was great to wake up and drift off to sleep to the sounds of the river each day. The kitchen was well stocked. The weather was great with highs around 80 - a welcome relief to the week of 100+ days back home in central California. Our grand-daughter delighted in watching the chipmunks and birds at the feeders. Yes, we did get to see a moose nearby and even more wildlife during our trips to the Park. We did most of our grocery shopping at the City Market in Granby and were pleased with both the selection and prices. We hope to return again someday in the not too distant future. This property is a treat not to be missed!

Great House on Beautiful River
We had a great time at this home! Nicely appointed, clean, comfortable and updated. We had 2 families (4 adults and 4 children). Plenty of room for all. Humming birds galore! There is a resident moose that visited the other side of the creek at least 2 times a day, which was beautiful. Had to caution the kids to be very aware and not to get too close as they were constantly playing in the creek. Kitchen had all the basics we needed and we grilled out every night. The town of Grand Lake was about a 5-10 minute car drive, so not a bad trade off for the river/views and privacy. We went horse back riding at Winding River Resort (very nice ride into Rocky Mountain National Park), fly fished, hiked in All-in-all, great trip and great place to stay. I would not hesitate to rent the same house the next time we visit.
Grand Lake, a historical old west town, is only about 4 miles from the cabin and is located adjacent to the largest natural lake in Colorado. Bumper boats, go-cart racing, mini golf, guided horseback riding, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice fishing, shopping and dining are just a few of the things to do in Grand Lake. The Grand Lake Golf Course is challenging and is one of the most beautiful in Colorado. In the summer, make the 35 minute trip to Winter Park and ride the highest alpine slide in Colorado or go the other direction into Rocky Mountain National Park and make the 48 mile drive over the highest paved road in North America (Trail Ridge Road) into Estes Park. In the winter, enjoy snowmobiling in the self-proclaimed Snowmobile Capital of Colorado. Enjoy the scenic views of Rocky Mountain National Park and the Arapahoe National Forest at the Grand Lake Nordic Center. A variety of terrain on 35 km of classic and skate skiing trails. The terrain and trails are also excellent for snowshoeing, and has a dedicated dog loop and kid's tubing hill. Cross country ski or downhill ski at the family friendly Granby Ranch (Sol Vista) ski area 20 minutes from the cabin. Go a little further for the best downhill skiing in Colorado at Winter Park a short 35 minutes drive.
