Space 1,350 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Private 3BR/2 Bath Overlooking The Bay With Open Floor Plan And Tropical Decor

Into the Mystic, our adorable cottage style home is not only affordable but filled with many charming touches. The house is in a private location with no neighboring houses in sight. Into the Mystic has a screened in, as well as an open porch with plenty of seating, overlooking the bay. Both areas are perfect for enjoying morning coffee, afternoon dining (electric and charcoal grills), or evening cocktails. During the day, birds including eagles soar high above the bay. At night you can sometimes make out the band playing at the oyster shack down the road.

The tropical colors and beach themed decor make the cottage bright and cheerful. There is a spacious master bedroom with a king bed, walk in closet, and en suite bath. Complimentary WiFi, Direct TV, and Netflix are included in the rate. The remaining bedrooms are on the opposite side of the living space with a full bath in between. All bedrooms have ample closet space and their own flat screen TV.

The large open living and kitchen area is comfortable and well equipped for cooking, entertaining, and relaxing. A small laundry room off the kitchen has a full size washer and dryer. There are shelves of books, games, and beach themed DVD's for the kids. The kitchen has all new stainless appliances, including a dishwasher and wine fridge. A reverse osmosis water system provides high quality drinking water. Except for the tiled bathrooms, the entire house is covered with wood flooring. There is AC of course, but there are also 6 ceiling fans and even a portable electric fireplace for those occasional chilly nights.

It is about a 99 second ride or 5 minute walk to the beautiful wide beach. Bikes are included in the rental rate, and the 'surf shack' has beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers, sand toys and more available for your use. There is an outdoor foot shower, as well as a full sized outdoor shower with hot water.

Into the Mystic..... a peaceful beach get away that will ' rock your gypsy soul! '

About Joseph Harmon

We are retired baby boomers w/ no children except our sweet black lab. Born + raised in the Buffalo area we've traveled to FL in search of sun + warmth for much of our lives. We've dragged nieces + nephews up and down the east and west coasts + have visited all the usual beach towns. About 5 years before my wife retired from teaching we stumbled upon this unusual place called Saint George Island. After doing some research + finding it was dog friendly, we decided to give it a try. We fell in love with SGI , renting led to a desire to buy + then the perfect property for us came along.

Into the Mystic has fulfilled our dream of owning a modest but comfortable beach cottage to enjoy with our dog, family, and friends. The former owners of this sweet house were unusual year round + lifetime residents of the Island. It was lovingly taken care of but was in dire need of an updated beachy makeover ; now almost complete.

The secluded location is what lured us to buy the property + we consider it to be 1 of the 'Mystic's' best features.

We enjoy morning coffee on the screened porch as eagles and seabirds soar over the bay. Next we walk Posey on the bike path or beach for a little exercise. After breakfast we're off in the golf cart back to the beach where we often relax with a good book. Afternoons we frequently head over the bridges to historic Apalachicola to enjoy an early dinner on the deck of our favorite restaurant. While slurping oysters + sipping a frosty one we watch the shrimp boats head through the marsh + down the creek. Once back home we plan to watch the evening news but just as often we're apt to flip on Oyster radio to listen to some funky beach tunes. Early evening finds us back down at the beach w/ the night sky filled w/ stars so brilliant + close you feel you can reach out + grab them. Finally it's time to sleep while the tree frogs sing their lullaby. Next morning (God willing) we get to do it all over again. Life IS good at the beach !

What makes this house unique

SGI feels like a beach town stuck in the fifties; we call it 'Mayberry at the Beach'. Like a Van Morrison song SGI and Into the Mystic just makes you feel good !

Guestbook comments from the owner

We absolutely loved the beautiful house and island. We fished, watched sunsets and sunrises, relaxed on the beach, and went on bike rides. This was our favorite vacation home so far in all of our 16 years of marriage! We enjoyed the Beach Pit for breakfast and pizza at BJ's. We loved the baked oysters at Lynn's in Easpoint. Thank you for the most beautiful vacation ever. We definitely want to come back!

Into the Mystic is conveniently located in the East Gulf Beach area, just across the street from the bay on a quiet paved road. The beautiful uncrowded beach is less than a 5 minute walk away. The State Park is a few miles away and can be easily accessed on bikes on the paved bike path. Enjoy a few restaurants with food, drinks, and music right on the island. The new Paddy's Raw Bar as well as The Black Marlin are easily walkable from the property/no need to drive. Also, Apalachicola is a short drive across the bridges and has many outstanding restaurants from oyster bars to fine dining and some in between. There are many historical buildings, neat architecture, and quirky little shops to explore. There are so many fun and relaxing things to do in the area but the best thing about SGI is just enjoying the beauty of the natural surroundings with family and friends!

Great Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at "Into the Mystic" for the month of January 2018. It is a well-kept home, very clean and comfortable. Joe and Deb really have thought of everything that you need to enjoy your time on St. George Island. They have newer appliances in the kitchen and laundry and the kitchen equipment allows you to whip up any culinary masterpiece you can think of! The beds are very comfortable and we slept well. We enjoyed the new, large-screen TV and the fireplace insert warmed us up on some of the cooler evenings.

I enjoyed riding one of the new bicycles around the island, and there was a vast collection of beach gear / toys.

The home sits away from other cottages and looks out on a salt marsh that looked a bit different every morning. It was private and quiet, yet a quick walk to the beach access or slightly longer walk to get to the stores and restaurants.

On top of all this, "Into the Mystic" is dog-friendly and I was able to bring my dog, Mae. The beaches on St. George Island are dog-friendly as well, so we were able to take walks with Mae on the beach.

There is so much to explore on SGI and the Apalachicola area. "Into the Mystic" is a great place to stay and Joe was very accessible and helpful when I had questions.

I hope to come back!

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a speedy and thorough review! We enjoyed having you as our guest and appreciate you taking such good care of our home during your stay. The view of the saltmarsh is quite peaceful and in warmer weather the screen porch is the most relaxing place to hang out. There truly is a lot to explore and enjoy on SGI and in nearby Apalachicola. We hope you do make it back to the "Mystic'; you are welcome anytime.

Highly recommended!

The house was very clean, spacious and decorated with good taste. The kitchen had new appliances and was very well equipped for a chef. We loved the screened-in porch with view of the bay. The property is big and perfect for dogs. We appreciated the bikes and the beach equipment. Great location to go for a short walk to the beach or the bay. It is only a short bike ride to the bars or supermarket. We loved it.

- Highly recommended!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. We just added a front loader washer and dryer plus a 55 inch smart TV in the family room. There are now 3 new adult beach cruiser bikes in the shed for a total of 4. Our location makes it easy to cruise around the island, visit the beach, and establishments. Check out the recently opened Doc Myers HUGE Tiki bar/restaurant where you can enjoy live music nightly; only a 2-3 minute bike ride from the "Mystic"

Owner's Response: When guests return over and over from other parts of Florida and especially from great beach towns like Sarasota; you wonder why they travel here? One can only assume there is something special and unique that draws them to SGI and Into the Mystic. That draw is quite likely the natural beauty of the island, the laid back unpretentious attitude, nice reasonably priced property, and of course, the uncrowded spectacular beaches! Thanks for taking the time to submit a review.

Another amazing week

  • 5 of 5

We were fortunate enough to stay at Into the Mystic again this year. The place is fantastic. It is so clean, so well stocked, so comfortable. The owners are great and truly care about your stay. New screen porch furniture was fantastic too. The beach is a short walk, but we just parked right next to the beach access. St. George is a great place for families. We always meet the nicest people there. We are already planning our stay for next year.

Owner's Response: Lots of guests have commented on the new porch furniture; the bar height table and chairs allows for a better view of the marsh and bay. Glad you mentioned the short walk to the beach and even shorter drive (less than a minute) as there is usually plenty of parking right by the beach access. Will soon be adding new items including a handy outdoor shower caddy and beach mat; we're always thinking about how to improve our and your experience at the 'Mystic'. Happy to host your family again!

Perfect! A cute, cozy, family and dog friendly escape!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful family vacation at Into the Mystic! The house had everything we needed and more. The kitchen had all the necessary tools and cooking gear we needed, and even a fantastic assortment of spices. We had chairs, coolers, umbrellas, and boogie boards for the beach. Bikes, books, games, and movies added even more entertainment. The home was pet friendly with food and water dishes and a nice yard for our dog who loved walking everywhere with us and spending the days on the beach under an umbrella. The location was great for us, within a short walk to the beach but secluded and surrounded by trees and plants. We could also easily walk to Paddy's and one night even walked to The Blue Parrot and took a night stroll on the beach on our way back. Sitting on the comfy patio furniture in the screened in porch was a perfect way to start our day and the patio table was great for meals. There were TV's for everyone, and a nice radio for music. The laundry room was so convenient and an easy way to keep up with laundry in the evening so there wasn't much to bring home. The owners were wonderful to work with and when the entry lock battery failed Joe answered my call within minutes and had a repair person to the house to fix it immediately. We could not have asked for a better response. The rental truly felt like a home, and in years of renting through VRBO, this was the nicest one yet. We loved our stay at Into the Mystic and hope we get the chance to return.

Owner's Response: Yet another very positive review from another very nice family; thank you. We do try to solve any issues and/or minor repairs as quickly as feasible. We have a competent and skilled housekeeper and a kind efficient handyman who both do a great job for us and our guests. After you left we completed a spring clean; power washing, rug cleaning and lawn/garden 'spruce up'. Also, just added new Trex Adirondack chairs to the outside deck and a Trex bar/dining set to the screen porch. It's such a beautiful but harsh environment on SGI. It can be challenging to keep up with outside maintenance but we try our best. Please feel welcome to vacation again at the 'Mystic' and thanks again for the 'goodies'!

Beautiful home. Wonderful owner. Even better experience on the Island.

  • 5 of 5

From renting, checkin, and departure, it was a truly wonderful experience. Joe is an outstanding host. No detail is too small for his attention.

St George is a beautiful island.

Appalachacola is a wonderful historic town. Beaches are not crowded and sugar white.

The home is perfect. 3 minute walk to beach. 3 minute walk to Raw Bar. 4 minutes to the grocery store. Never drove.

The house is perfectly equipped. Kitchen, main room, bedrooms, and baths. Online pictures do not do justice. I brought my golden retriever and the house is perfect for dogs. The porch with my dog watching the sunset was truly inspirational.

If you are goin to St George, stop looking and rent this.
