About the property

Private 3BR/2 Bath Overlooking The Bay With Open Floor Plan And Tropical Decor

Into the Mystic, our adorable cottage style home is not only affordable but filled with many charming touches. The house is in a private location with no neighboring houses in sight. Into the Mystic has a screened in, as well as an open porch with plenty of seating, overlooking the bay. Both areas are perfect for enjoying morning coffee, afternoon dining (electric and charcoal grills), or evening cocktails. During the day, birds including eagles soar high above the bay. At night you can sometimes make out the band playing at the oyster shack down the road.

The tropical colors and beach themed decor make the cottage bright and cheerful. There is a spacious master bedroom with a king bed, walk in closet, and en suite bath. Complimentary WiFi, Direct TV, and Netflix are included in the rate. The remaining bedrooms are on the opposite side of the living space with a full bath in between. All bedrooms have ample closet space and their own flat screen TV.

The large open living and kitchen area is comfortable and well equipped for cooking, entertaining, and relaxing. A small laundry room off the kitchen has a full size washer and dryer. There are shelves of books, games, and beach themed DVD's for the kids. The kitchen has all new stainless appliances, including a dishwasher and wine fridge. A reverse osmosis water system provides high quality drinking water. Except for the tiled bathrooms, the entire house is covered with wood flooring. There is AC of course, but there are also 6 ceiling fans and even a portable electric fireplace for those occasional chilly nights.

It is about a 99 second ride or 5 minute walk to the beautiful wide beach. Bikes are included in the rental rate, and the 'surf shack' has beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers, sand toys and more available for your use. There is an outdoor foot shower, as well as a full sized outdoor shower with hot water.

Into the Mystic..... a peaceful beach get away that will ' rock your gypsy soul! '

About Joseph Harmon

We are retired baby boomers w/ no children except our sweet black lab. Born + raised in the Buffalo area we've traveled to FL in search of sun + warmth for much of our lives. We've dragged nieces + nephews up and down the east and west coasts + have visited all the usual beach towns. About 5 years before my wife retired from teaching we stumbled upon this unusual place called Saint George Island. After doing some research + finding it was dog friendly, we decided to give it a try. We fell in love with SGI , renting led to a desire to buy + then the perfect property for us came along.

Into the Mystic has fulfilled our dream of owning a modest but comfortable beach cottage to enjoy with our dog, family, and friends. The former owners of this sweet house were unusual year round + lifetime residents of the Island. It was lovingly taken care of but was in dire need of an updated beachy makeover ; now almost complete.

The secluded location is what lured us to buy the property + we consider it to be 1 of the 'Mystic's' best features.

We enjoy morning coffee on the screened porch as eagles and seabirds soar over the bay. Next we walk Posey on the bike path or beach for a little exercise. After breakfast we're off in the golf cart back to the beach where we often relax with a good book. Afternoons we frequently head over the bridges to historic Apalachicola to enjoy an early dinner on the deck of our favorite restaurant. While slurping oysters + sipping a frosty one we watch the shrimp boats head through the marsh + down the creek. Once back home we plan to watch the evening news but just as often we're apt to flip on Oyster radio to listen to some funky beach tunes. Early evening finds us back down at the beach w/ the night sky filled w/ stars so brilliant + close you feel you can reach out + grab them. Finally it's time to sleep while the tree frogs sing their lullaby. Next morning (God willing) we get to do it all over again. Life IS good at the beach !

What makes this house unique

SGI feels like a beach town stuck in the fifties; we call it 'Mayberry at the Beach'. Like a Van Morrison song SGI and Into the Mystic just makes you feel good !

Guestbook comments from the owner

We absolutely loved the beautiful house and island. We fished, watched sunsets and sunrises, relaxed on the beach, and went on bike rides. This was our favorite vacation home so far in all of our 16 years of marriage! We enjoyed the Beach Pit for breakfast and pizza at BJ's. We loved the baked oysters at Lynn's in Easpoint. Thank you for the most beautiful vacation ever. We definitely want to come back!

Superb home

  • 5 of 5

'Into the mystic' is a superb home owned by terrific people. We've stayed at multiple VRBO houses over the years with none as well stocked, clean and ready to receive guests as this one. There honestly was not a single thing missing that we might have needed. The home is immaculate and comfortably slept my wife and I as well as our three children. The outdoor living space is excellent with both indoor screened in porch as well as outdoor porch areas. The views of the bay were terrific including the marsh. You can hear the ocean from the balcony. The inside is bright and airy and all of the electronics and appliances work very well including the TV, Internet and other packages. The griddle on the stovetop is a nice bonus for pancakes.

The owners are inviting and super kind and definitely make this a home away from home for their guests.

As you can tell we love this place. We will definitely be back-- and we also loved the island area.

Highly Recommended for all types of people.

Great house, great value!

  • 5 of 5

Into the Mystic is our favorite place we have rented over several trips to the area. The location is convenient to the beach and restaurants, yet very private with a great view of the bay. The house is very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with a good selection of spices and even had sharp knives! The extra refrigerator/freezer made enough ice that we didn't have to buy any for our coolers and the selection of beach gear was great. The price was very fair for the quality of the home and Joe was a pleasure to deal with. We will definitely be back!

Loved It!!

  • 5 of 5

We have two older teenagers, and were hoping to get away and have a pause in our busy lives. Into the Mystic was just the place for us! The house has an updated and very enjoyable decor and was so comfortable. Like others have said, it is stocked with everything we could have imagined needing, allowing us to travel light. Days were spent at the beach (just a short walk away) with the borrowed chairs, umbrella, beach cart, etc. We had great morning bike trips around the island, and quiet times reading, sipping cocktails, or bird watching on the screened in porch. There is not another house visible from Into the Mystic, and the beach was not at all crowded during a peak summer travel week, which we thought was a huge plus. However, for those who want activity, there were opportunities within walking distance such as the live band at nearby Paddy's raw bar. We were pleasantly surprised at the fine dining and unique boutiques at nearby Apalachicola. Our teenagers thought a great selling point to mention are the movie channels and Netflix availability. After a day spent outside, it was so fun to watch movies together at night. The owners are attentive and available to contact, and have obviously put their love and care into this gem of a house. We plan to return!

Owner's Response: Flattering, detailed, and so well written! Thanks for taking time to share your vacation experience on SGI and at the 'Mystic.' Also, thanks to the teens for mentioning the Direct TV and Netflix; something we tend to overlook. It is nice to sit in the cool house after a long day at the beach and watch a show, movie, or sporting event. I love to be down in autumn (the best time/weather on SGI in my opinion) and watch the (Buffalo) Bills and Sabres after a day at the beach. Hoping to add a bigger and better TV sometime in the future if I can convince the wifey, lol! Do 'sail' back into the "Mystic' soon !

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Into the Mystic! This house had so much to offer, especially all the beach items readily accessible to use. We've never stayed at any other rental that had so much available. The beach cart, chairs, bikes and kites were enjoyed throughout the week and were much appreciated. The home itself is so cozy, clean, with a well stocked kitchen and decorated very cute throughout. There is a very short walk to the beach and a rental company for kayaks, paddle boards etc right around the corner from the house. Be sure to visit Apalachicola during your stay as this fascinating historic town offers many things to see and do. The owners were so nice to work with for any questions that we had and responded to us promptly every time we contacted them. It was apparent that they really cared about our comfort while we were in their home and love sharing their home with others (one of the best we've ever encountered!). We adore this area and will definitely be back!

Owner's Response: Another wonderful review from yet another wonderful family! Currently we are in the process of packing up replacement/additional items to bring down to the "Mystic' including new knives, cookie sheets, beach towels, and coastal lanterns. Glad you mentioned our close proximity to Journeys where you can easily rent kayaks, golf carts, paddleboards and more. Apalachicola is a very cool town; at first glance you would never suspect there are so many good quality restaurants ; many with pet friendly decks and porches. Thanks for taking the time to write a review - we sure hope you'll come back again - God bless!

Loved "Into the Mystic"

  • 5 of 5

Brought together family members of all ages from across the country to spend a week at "Into the Mystic" and we certainly were not disappointed. The house has everything you would need and we especially liked having access to the beach stuff Joe keeps downstairs-saved us from having to haul a bunch of gear from home. The location of the house is great as you have just a short walk to the beach, a short walk to rent a kayak and go fishing in the bay, or a short walk to Paddy's for an adult beverage with oysters and music on the side. The location is also very handy if you want to go explore Apalachicola or need to make a quick stop at Fisherman's Choice in Eastpoint-quick drive and you are right there on the bridge heading back to the mainland. The house itself is well maintained and had everything we could really want for a week at the beach. Its also worth noting that, unlike some rentals, the utensils, furniture, and even decor feel like those of a real house that someone cares about and aren't just the cheapest and most disposable options available. The owner Joe was very friendly and easy to deal with. We didn't have any problems but you really get a sense that if something was to go wrong that Joe would pull out all the stops trying to fix whatever it was as soon as possible.

We've been coming to St George and the Forgotten Coast for many years now and some of the fondest memories of my life have been on the beautiful beaches or out on the water in the bay. I can say that "Into the Mystic" was our favorite place we've ever rented on St George and we will certainly return in the future.

Owner's Response: Wow ; that was one of the nicest reviews, thank you! We take pride in the property and of course vacationers want a house they feel comfortable in too. We are not strictly in this to make money, we actually want responsible guests who will take good care of our 'Mystic' plus enjoy it when we can' t be there ourselves. Very glad you had fun and made fond memories with your family and friends. Please do come back again!

Excellent Beach House

  • 5 of 5

Into the Mystic was a great house in a great place. It was clearly nicer than some of the other places we have stayed at a similar price level. There was a perfect amount of space, and the place was very well maintained. It had so many extras often not available at other places. The storage space was loaded with beach items which only enhanced our stay. It made it really feel like home. The quality of kitchen items, furniture, etc were a level above many other places. The owners were genuinely concern about us enjoying our stay and handled all aspects in a first-class manner. We appreciated it all and will look forward to staying here again.

Owner's Response: Joe says 'Excellent Guests"....very nice responsible family - just the kind of clientele we hope to attract. Thank you for communicating with us and your genuine feedback. The addition of a step stool for 'little one's' use in the bathroom is an excellent idea; we get some of the best suggestions from guests. Really glad you had a memorable time with your family - that's what it's all about! Hope your family will return to the 'Mystic' again in the future.

Into the Mystic is conveniently located in the East Gulf Beach area, just across the street from the bay on a quiet paved road. The beautiful uncrowded beach is less than a 5 minute walk away. The State Park is a few miles away and can be easily accessed on bikes on the paved bike path. Enjoy a few restaurants with food, drinks, and music right on the island. The new Paddy's Raw Bar as well as The Black Marlin are easily walkable from the property/no need to drive. Also, Apalachicola is a short drive across the bridges and has many outstanding restaurants from oyster bars to fine dining and some in between. There are many historical buildings, neat architecture, and quirky little shops to explore. There are so many fun and relaxing things to do in the area but the best thing about SGI is just enjoying the beauty of the natural surroundings with family and friends!
