Rockaway Beach House Rental Photos and Description

Sharkalope - On The Beach! Sleeps 18. Hot Tub. Arcade.

Beach, hot tub and retro arcade… need we say more? Our home is a remodeled ocean front home originally built in 1925 that sits on a 1/2 acre oceanfront parcel directly in front of the Twin Rocks. We have a large yard and path which connects the house directly to the beach. There are great views of the Twin Rocks from house and the deck, or get closer and hang out on picnic table overlooking the beach. We have a hot tub off the deck and a retro arcade in the basement, with Skeeball, pinball, pop-a-shot and vintage video games.

The house has a total 5 bedrooms and 3 baths and 2 kitchens between the main house and the downstairs apartment. The main house and the apartment are rented together as a package.

The main house has 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, kitchen, dining, TV room and great room. The attached apartment has 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, a living room and kitchen. The main house sleeps 14 (12 on beds and 2 on sofas) and the apartment sleeps another 4 (2 on bed and 2 on sofa).

Upstairs, on the top floor, there are 2 large bedrooms each with a king bed. The east room has a view of the mountains and west room has a great view of the ocean and Twin Rocks. Each room also has a queen size bed that can be pulled out from under the main bed to sleep additional people. The top floor also has a bathroom and a TV room.

The main floor has small vintage kitchen, a bathroom with a clawfoot tub and two smaller bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with twin bunk beds. The main floor also has a great room with a large dining table and a living area where everyone can gather and play games or watch the waves crash on the Twin Rocks.

The downstairs apartment has one bedroom with a queen bed, a living room with a TV and DVD player, a full kitchen with a small dining table. The sofa in the living room folds down into a full size bed. The apartment has a separate outside entrance on the east side of the house, or can be accessed from the main house through an interior door on the lower level.

Outside the main house front door, facing the ocean and Twin Rocks, is a deck and a hot tub and a private path through our yard leads about 200 feet to the beautiful 7 mile stretch of beach right in front of the Twin Rocks.

The basement has an arcade game room with Skee Ball, vintage pinball machine, shuffleboard, air hockey, pop-a-shot two player basketball game, Donkey Kong multicade (with 60 games including Pac Man, Dig Dug and many more) and Area 51 2-person shooting game. All games are set for free play, so no need to bring quarters. Please note that some arcade games may not be operational during your stay, these are older games that sometimes break and we can't always fix them right away.

There is plenty of parking for at least 6 cars.

Rockaway Beach is a small coastal resort town located only about 1.5 hours from Portland. It has a beautiful 7 mile continuous beach anchored by Tillamook Bay to the south and Nehalem Bay to the north. It’s a great location with everything you need within a short drive.

Other Things to Note:

Prices are subject to change and are not guaranteed until booking is confirmed.

Well behaved pets may be allowed with host's permission and a small fee. Please check with us if you plan to bring pets.

Maximum occupancy for the property is 18 people.

An additional cleaning fee may be required if excessive trash is left in the house or yard. Rockaway Beach does not have curb-side recycling, so guest are required to take recyclables (glass bottles, cans, etc) to the local recycling centers in Rockaway or Tillamook.

We try our best to keep the arcade games working, but they sometimes break. We don't issue refunds for any arcade games that are not working.

About Rachelle

We live in Portland and love to travel to the coast or the mountains when we can.

Rachelle purchased this house in 2013

Why Rachelle chose Northern Coast

This property is absolutely amazing! On a quarter acre of oceanfront land, it has a direct view of Twin Rocks and Rockaway's 7 mile beach.

Our home was built in the 30's and has gone through a few transformations from hotel, to home, to bed and breakfast and back to a home again it has a ton of character. We bought and remodeled the house, leaving the hardwood floors and awesome (but updated) vintage kitchen.

What makes this house unique

We've got an amazing view of the beach and Twin Rocks, a hot tub, an arcade and a ton of space for fun, food and family.

Best summer beach stay

  • 5 of 5

The Sharkalope house is everything you would expect a beach house to be, and much more. Our family of 16 stayed over the Independence Day holiday weekend.

First of all, the little town of Rockaway Beach is so great. Plenty of little town type shopping, ice cream, candy and eats. Pronto Pup is a cool retro joint with a very fun menu and setup- highly recommend stopping here while in town. The local store is high priced but has most of what you may have forgotten. The sand dollar restaraunt and lounge, I believe is the name, is beach front and has a great menu and fun bar with outdoor seating and a couple fire pits. Rent the fun cycles from the interesting man at the grocery store, great family fun for a low price.

The house itself exceeds expectations, the photos really don't do it justice and we were so pleasantly surprised. Not only is it beachy, it's rustic, well maintained and FUN. Not having a TV on the main level makes family time and game playing great, perfect gathering spot in the evenings. There are two other TV's- bring DVD's if you want, and they supply a Wii with games for the kids. Arcade was bomb.com, everyone loved it, adults included. The downstairs apartment area is perfect for grandparents or teenagers, private with separate entrance but still a part of the household. Bed linens/blankets/towels were plentiful, clean and comfortable. Every level has its own bathroom including shower. The kitchen is retro but well furnished/full of what you need and so fun to be in- seriously. Bbq works great, hot tub is great. Deck has plenty of chairs available, beach buckets and little shovels are in the sunroom- kids loved that.

The beach front in the description is no lie, you can see if from the house & deck, and the walk is quick and easy. We spent every evening on the beach with a fire. Oh, and you're about 1 minute from town, great location. This place is well worth the stay, we'd definetely stay here again!

We LOVED Sharkalope

  • 5 of 5

My extended family and I stayed at Sharkalope for spring break. The house was lovely. A cute vintage craftsman with whitewashed floors, wood paneling and really fun beach decor mixed with comfortable modern furniture. They had extra blankets, pillows, towels and the kitchen was super cute and well equipped to cook for our family. The arcade was huge hit with our kids (7 & 15). Even my 89 year old mother in law played air hockey and pop a shot with my 7 year old. Shuffleboard table needed wax so we didn't get to play that. There was everything we needed, a really nice and new Egg-like BBQ, tons of deck chairs and beach toys. The hot tub was great once we got it heated up 15 year old loved staying in the basement apartment, close but lots of privacy. The house had gorgeous views from the living room and master bedroom. You can sit on the deck and see the twin rocks. The walk to the beach was through some dunes but totally doable even for my MIL and her walker. About a 3 minute walk to the beach. The view of the twin rocks was really spectacular and I liked having them in front of us more than just all beach. We arrived a little bit early and the cleaning crew was so friendly and accommodating.

One thing I wanted to note that was confusing until we got there was the number of beds and where they were. Upstairs the two big bedrooms upstairs have king sized beds and then have queen sized mattresses underneath on wheels with platforms that you can slide out. I think this sleeping arrangement would only be good for families or kids. So there are four bedrooms in the main part of the house on the main floor -one double bedroom and one bedroom with bunk beds, the upstairs had 2 bedrooms each with a king and a pullout queen. The apartment downstairs had a double bed and a futon like couch in the living room. Also, the photos don't really capture how cool this house is. Might be good to not have them be so fish eyed. :)

It totally worked for us and we would love to stay here again. Yay Sharkalope.

Amazing Location and Giant Fun House!

  • 5 of 5

The view is just beautiful at the Sharkalope! Our weekend we lucked out with 70 degree weather and little to no clouds. We had a large group and everyone was having a good time. The game room is awesome, does have some quirks, but all around is still very fun. Some of the games may not function properly, but are still fairly playable. There was only one game we couldn't figure out how to turn on, so if you play bball you might have to keep your own score. They had a shuffle board table that was a great surprise and the skee-ball was functional, we even had a little tournament. The kitchen is fully stocked and basement mother in law suite with a kitchen was a great help as well. The hot tub takes a little time to warm up, so prepare accordingly when wanting to use it. There were tons of linens, blankets, and towels for everyone. One of our best vacations to date and would definitely recommend to anyone with a larger group wanting to stay at the coast. The only real problem we had was the main fridge didn't seem to be working properly. It still kept our stuff cold in the fridge, but not freeze. That's when the second fridge on the bottom floor became especially helpful. Overall it was an amazing weekend and we would love to come back and stay again!

Owner's Response: Hi AJ, we're glad you enjoyed your stay at Sharkalope and thanks for letting us know about the refrigerator in the main house. After your stay, we replaced the it with a new one, so Sharkalope is back to having two working freezers.

was ok,

  • 3 of 5

this vacation property was just ok. I do not think I would ever return back. It was a good price for a bed and nothing fancy. The furniture in the house was aweful, one "couch" you would sink to the floor. The kitchen was small, the plumbing was bad and constantly plugging up. The main concern I had was we pulled out a pillow from the closet and it had old dried blood on it!!!! The house is also cluttered with the owners personal stuff, such as boots and shoes. We did like the game room in the basement and the walk to the beach.

Owner's Response: Hello! We're sorry to hear that the house did not meet your expectations. We actually found that pillow and replaced it last weekend. We're guessing that the previous guests hid it in the closet. We do have two closets dedicated to owner belongings but the sets of extra rain boots and rain jackets in the sunroom for guests to use in the event they forget theirs! The furniture was all purchased new in 2014 and none of the couches sink to the floor as described, but there is a cushioned bench that doubles as a sleeper, so is pretty low to the ground. We appreciate your feedback about the plumbing. We had not received any feedback from prior guests about these issues and have someone coming out this weekend to check on it. Cheers, Rachelle
