Enjoy exclusive Michael Drive, the 'Upper West Side' of Sonoma. The property backs to an old hand stacked, moss covered rock wall adjacent to Hanzell Winery natural forest. Once you are in the drive way you will begin to feel tucked in amongst the oaks, manzanita and madrone trees, with a sense of privacy and quite you will certainly enjoy. It becomes complete once you are in the house looking out from any window or on the deck from any vantage point.
This beautiful custom home is conveniently located only two miles from the Sonoma Plaza, but up this hill you have all the quite and serenity one could want in the Sonoma wine country. This new mid-century modern 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home sits looking to the NW, with ever changing afternoon sunsets. Spend time on the deck sipping your new wine discoveries and fine regional artisan cheeses as you look up the Valley of the Moon flanked by Sonoma Mountain on one side and the famous Monte Rossa Vineyard on the other.
You can cook in the designer kitchen and eat inside at the large square hammer copper dining table that so comfortably seats eight in leather arm chairs. Or you can BBQ and ten can comfortably eat on the teak table right outside the kitchen. Enjoy this cook’s home with all the cooking gear you will you are not out dining at one of the great restaurants in the region. Sonoma is home to great chefs and famous restaurants. We are also pleasantly close to other food centric places including Glen Ellen (15 minutes), Napa (25 minutes), Tiburon or Sausalito (35 minutes) , or across the Golden Gate into San Francisco or via the Richmond Bridge to Berkeley (45 minutes).
If you are like most people we know you will often gather in the kitchen, but the living room is also very comfortable with a new large HD TV, a gas fire place, and plenty of seating—easily rearranged to fit the size of your group.
In the master bedroom awaken in the Cal-King bed looking out the large glass doors and windows to the private deck cradled by oaks. The master suite and deck allows you to totally get away from everyone and everything, with its comfortable couch for reading and watching a flat screen TV and adirondack chairs for lounging on the oak shaded deck. The master bath has a large shower surrounded by windows looking out to the deck, hot tub, old rock wall and forest; and a glass door leading to the teak hot tub on the deck—all wonderfully exposed to nature, with the deer, squirrels, migratory birds, soaring hawks, and the occasional fox or crop of wild turkeys. And you can sunbath by the hot tub in the afternoons to get a little color.
Two other bedrooms comfortably sleep two each, one on an incredibly comfortable queen bed, desk and large flat screen TV, and the other with a twin trundle. They share a bathroom. There is also a blow up queen bed if you have a seventh or eighth person—you can throw it down at night in the living room and lightly take it away in the mornings.
You are conveniently close to amenities you may find important including Sonoma Market and Whole Foods, a handful of fine local bakeries and premium wine stores, all favorites with local foodies. Starbucks, Peet's and the local coffee favorites, along with pharmacies, gas stations, dry cleaners and all the other helps to daily life are all close by.
July is our warmest and driest month—on average of course. Temperatures typically range from the high 80s during the day to the low 50s at night. And even on the hottest days you receive the evening winds up from the San Francisco Bay that cool you off around 6 or 7 PM every day. This breeze makes for lovely evenings on the deck.
There is much to do in Sonoma all the time, and July is no exception. The July “must do” event is the parade on the 4th as it loops around the Plaza—right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Go early, take chairs, water and stake out some space. Bring lunch and some wine to have a picnic on the Plaza later.
In the region there is a never ending list of things to do and see, including the Charles Schultz Museum in Santa Rosa, Broadway Under the Stars in Jack London Park (Glen Ellen), and live weekend entertainment with food and libations in many pleasant nearby locations.
And of course, if you need to stay connected we have wi-fi. Cell reception is good here.
Let us know your interests and we will help you find what you want to see and do. There are so many options you can tailor your time to your wishes. Come enjoy Sonoma…and stay on the Upper West Side.
Since this is our personal residence, we always want to get more acquainted with our guests. BEFORE completing the booking process, we kindly request that you send an inquiry telling us about yourself and your party, your visit to Sonoma and are you coming from. We have tips on wineries/restaurants/activities/drivers/ best airport to fly to…details that will enhance your stay. Cheers!
Your hosts,
Claudia and Kevin Carruth

Why they chose this property

The only house in this private street filled with nature, deer, with expanding views. We completely remodeled it in the mid-century/contemporary style, allowing the outside to come in through EVERY window.

What makes this property unique

Deck feels 'at the top of the world', open floor plan with very spacious master bedroom, complete surround by nature yet access to supermarket, restaurants, town just 'down the hill'. And how about a night dip in the Jacuzzi with a glass of wine, listing to your favorite tunes, overlooking the valley and the stars... quite nice!
