Incredible stay and would definitely recommend!

  • 5 of 5

This house was incredible! The property was clean and filled with anything we needed on our vacation! Easy access and very friendly property management. My family had a blast and everyone was thrilled with the house we picked. It couldn't have been better. None of us wanted to leave! 5 stars all around!

Beautiful, quiet, clean, convenient to sights and shopping.

  • 5 of 5

The property is very comfortable and sits toward the end of a street so it is very quiet and peaceful. Very little traffic. You can walk down to the bay to watch the sunset or swim. Close proximity to shopping, beaches and attractions. You are within a 2-3 hour drive (or less) of just about anything on the island. The house is very comfortable and clean. Nice kitchen and large living/dining area. I highly recommend this property and would stay here again.

A wonderful home in a great area

  • 4 of 5

The home was very welcoming from our first steps inside. Our group consisted of my mother and me, and my two teenagers. Great open airy home. Each of the four of us got a separate sleeping area. But we spent most of our time trying to pull ourselves away from the lanai... what a great space for relaxing! Birds chirping, cool breezes, the sound of the water feature... all lovely! Just a few negatives, which we did not contact the property manager for ... all were minor and not worth the time to address.

The small swimming beach is just a short walk up the street and to the right. Great for a refreshing dip!

This was a perfect home base for us during our five days on the Big Island! I highly recommend it!

This property was perfect for our family. It is nestled in a quiet neighborhood. We opened the windows at night and listened to the birds while enjoying the nice breeze. We would definitely stay here again. Thank You!

Wonderful beach house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Four adults stayed here for a week in February 2017. The highlights of the the house include: lots of room to spread out, two master bedrooms each with full and modern bathrooms, excellent ac and lots of fans, a very good kitchen with pots, pans, cutlery etc, large fridge with ice maker, full size and powerful microwave, dishwasher, good regular basket style coffeemaker, fantastic patio with lots of room, good full size grill with propane, an interesting back yard with lots of birds, a covered carport, a quiet and upscale area, strong WiFi, lots of beach towels and two coolers, full size washer and dryer, walking distance to mall with longs drugs supermarket and restaurants. So you get the idea. This place is just about perfect. But not quite. The few cons are: both bedrooms have full size clean and modern ensuit bathrooms but those are the only two in the house. So, for us two couples this was only a minor issue in that we had to go back to the bedroom to use the facilities and possibly wake someone up if they were still sleeping. But, as this house can sleep 3 more people easily, this could become a real issue for you. Essentially the people not sleepin the two comfy and spacious bedrooms must use the washrooms in those bedrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped from an equipment point of view, but comes with very little in way of supplies. There was salt and pepper, plastic wrap and coffee filters. There was dishwasher soap but only a tiny bottle of dish washing soap. There were no other supplies so plan on buying all basics. In the washrooms there was no shampoo or conditioner and 3 rolls of tp. There were two small bars of hand soap and some hand soap dispensers.

The area itself is just terrific and there is an open air shuttle from longs drugs that costs 2.00 per person and takes you down along the seashore to an adorable and lively downtown in about 30 minutes. The last return bus leaves from downtown about 830 at night. The beaches near here are dramatic and walkable and great to read a book by - but not sandy for swimming. There are a lot of beach towels here but no other beach supplies. We explored most of the island from here. It was about 2 hours to the volcano (awesome!) And about 90 minutes to the summit of Mauna Kea (also awesome). You must rent a car to see this island and you should get supplies at Costco. I suggest you get a suv and specifically a 4wd. In summary, this house is a true gem and a great deal. Book it and love it

Best for 2 couples

  • 3 of 5

The house is clean and spacious and we especially enjoyed the large lanai off the back of the house. It is well furnished with fairly comfortable furniture pieces. The beds were firm and linens in good shape with plenty of extras. The management company is very proactive and responsive. I thank them for their attention to detail. The laundry set up was appreciated.

I've only given this property three stars due to the arrangement of the bedroom/bathrooms. The third, "bedroom", which is pictured as an office, is off of the main living area (kitchen, dining room and living room) and due to louvered doors, it was impossible for us to use this core of the house without waking up our son. I'm sure the louvers are for humidity control, but they also provide no sound insulation. The other very strange design is that both of the bathrooms are within the other two bedrooms, making it impossible for people in the third, “bedroom” to use the facilities without waking up whoever is in those bedrooms.

There are also two twin beds in an open loft, up very steep steps (which you can see in the picture of the dining room.) Zero privacy and probably only usable by older children or spry adults.

It is a stretch to call this a beach house because although it is quite close to the bay, there is no direct access through other’s private property. You have to walk back up the road on which the house is located and then back down towards the bay, 1/4-1/3 mile.

The house desperately needs flow restrictors in the shower heads. The water comes out so fast, there is only enough hot water to take two showers before it is gone. The owners ask you to please be considerate about the use of electricity, which I can understand given the very high rates that Islanders pay, but there are very few high efficiency bulbs in the house.

The owners ask you to start laundry for the housekeepers, which I am happy to do (and did), but left only two tiny packages of laundry soap.

Keauhou Bay
Car: recommended

Keauhou Bay is a historic area in the Kona District of the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. The name comes from ke au hou which means 'the new era' in the Hawaiian Language. A short drive south of Historic Kailua Village, the Keauhou Resort area has emerged as one of Hawaii Island’s great cultural destinations. The area is bordered on the north coast by beautiful Kahaluu Bay with the famous Kona coffee country of Holualoa just up the slopes of Mount Hualalai. Featuring the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay and the Outrigger Kanaloa at Kona, Keauhou Resort is an area blessed with sunny weather and perfect waters for snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking. These idyllic conditions made it a favorite hideaway of Hawaiian royalty, and today the area boasts diligently restored heiau (temples), ancient fishponds and a wealth of historical sites. Interpretive centers throughout the resort weave together the area’s present and past, making a stay in Keauhou as enriching as it is relaxing. At night, the Keauhou area attracts manta rays that feed on microscopic plankton near the shore. You can spot these manta rays in the shallow waters off the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay, which shoots out spotlights into the plankton filled waters nightly.

Location: Kona is one of seven regions on Hawaii's Big Island, encompassing a 60-mile stretch of the western coast. The Big Island sits at the southeastern end of Hawaii's island chain, and is 4,038 square miles, double the combined size of Hawaii's other seven islands.

History: Kailua-Kona, also called Kailua-Kona Town, is a city in the Kona region and was, at one point, home to King Kamehameha in the early 1800s. The Historic Kailua Village in Kailua-Kona pays homage to Kamehameha and other Hawaiian royalty with tours of historic sites such as Hulihee Palace and Mokuaikaua Church. Also located on the Kona coast is Kealakekua Bay, where captain James Cook first landed on the Big Island and eventually was killed, in 1779.

Historical Parks: Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park has a monument to Captain James Cook. Near Kealakekua Bay is the 180-acre Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, which was once a sacred place of refuge. The Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic Park is a 1,160-acre park just north of Kailua-Kona that is home to historic temples and ancient petroglyphs.

Beach Activities: There are many white-sand beaches and ocean activities available on the Kona coast, from snorkeling and surfing to whale watching and dinner cruises. The waters along the Kona coast are calm and clear, providing perfect visibility of green sea turtles, fish and other marine life while snorkeling and scuba diving. There are surfing schools that offer individual and group lessons, sport fishing charters, dinner cruises and boat tours that will put you up close to whales, dolphins, manta rays and green sea turtles.

Things to Do: There's plenty to do in Kona aside from beach and ocean activities. Kona's small towns have many shops and galleries. Take a tour up to the 14,000-foot summit of nearby Mauna Kea, either during the daytime, to enjoy spectacular views, or at night, to take in some stargazing. Visit Kona in October to take in the annual Ironman World Championship, a long-distance triathlon that attracts some of the world's top athletes.

Kona Coffee: Kona has many excellent restaurants that offer dishes featuring fresh seafood from the Pacific Ocean, but the real treat on this part of the island is Kona coffee. There are many coffee farms in Kona, the only place where Kona coffee beans are grown to produce 100 percent pure Kona coffee. The conditions in Kona are just right for growing these rare beans--elevation, constant cloud cover and rich, volcanic soil. Aside from taking home some of this famous beverage, visitors can tour many of the area's coffee farms, and visit the Kona Coffee Living History Farm.
