The Vancouver Island Lodge is located on a secluded private acreage with an exceptional beach front that can be accessed via the large dock (4 boats, swimming) or stairs. The lodge boasts 7 bedrooms, with a large common room, a pool table room and kitchen. Two additional separate suites are also available upon request. Guests can enjoy the weather and stunning ocean views from the large covered deck and patio surrounding the lodge. In the evenings, relax in the hot tub overlooking the tranquil waters of Coopers Cove.
The lodge is one of the best locations on Vancouver Island for fishing, whale and bird watching, and experiencing all the west coast activities and surroundings. We are able to arrange our guides and boats to provide you a personally tailored excursion on the ocean. Minutes from the lodge are the Galloping Goose trail (bike and running), Sooke River, Sooke Potholes, kayaking rentals and Westcoast dining.
Ryan Chamberland is the Lead Guide and General Manager for Vancouver Island Lodge. Ryan is a Sooke native and can help guide you on the water and in the neighborhood. Ryan lives on property in a seperate house and caretakes the facility. He is available to take guests fishing, crabbing, and whale watching year round.
Ryan Chamberland purchased this lodge in 2014
Vancouver Island Lodge is a paradise for the avid and recreational fisherman. The weather is excellent year-round, the seas are calm, and the fishing is excellent for Salmon, Halibut, Cod, Crabs and even prawns.
The property captures the essence of Vancouver Island living. Enjoy a morning coffee on the cedar deck overlooking the bay before fishing. Relax in the dockside hot tub after a long day on the water. Take a walk down the galloping goose nature trail. Fresh Dungeness Crab as a daily appetizer. There are many adventures waiting for you at Vancouver Island Lodge. This is the perfect place for corporate retreats, family getaways, and friends to make memories.
This was my second time at VIL the first was last summer with my buddies for a 3 day 4 night salmon, halibut and crabbing charter and we had so much fun and success with Ryan that my wife and I returned last week to stay at the lodge and go "prawning" and what an adventure it was. We stayed for 5 nights and caught our limit of 800 prawns which we packaged up and brought home on the plane with us. The flight out from Calgary took just over an hour and we were on the water shortly after landing which was a bonus. The lodge was clean, very comfortable and beautifully decorated, you can cook your own meals in the large well equipped kitchen but our favourite was the 17 Mile House Pub. The location offers fabulous views from the decks and living room with spacious grounds and amenities. It really has it all and
the Galloping Goose trail is accessible right from the lodge, we went on several great hikes with spectacular views along the coast. Ryan is an excellent guide and his boats provided a safe, first class experience on the water and Ryan is the perfect host having grown up in the area. We would highly recommend that you check out a fishing package or family get away. In fact we liked it so much we have rebooked another trip out there.
We hosted my family reunion at Vancouver Island Lodge. Several of my relatives traveled from the lower mainland & had no problem locating the lodge. The location was fantastic, I could sit for hours just looking out to the bay, absolutely beautiful.... even thought the weather didn't really cooperate! Communication with Ryan by email was incredibly efficient. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Ryan, but we met his mother, Barb to do the walk through & she was incredibly helpful & had done a fabulous job prepping the lodge for our arrival. I will definitely be booking this lodge again in future & my brother is hoping he can book the lodge for his wedding :) Cheers, Mel
This place is incredible! Love the huge and modern living space with 9 bedroom, many bathrooms. The pool table was a nice treat and not to mention the hot tub overlooking the beautiful Bay.
Will definitely be returning.
Thanks Ryan, such a great host
My husband and I recently stayed at this BEAUTIFUL lodge and thoroughly enjoyed our Weekend away. We were able to fly out of Calgary and within 3 hours from departure we were picked up from the airport and on the ocean reeling in lots of Fish. I was a little concerned about being out on the rough ocean initially. But this Lodge is tucked into a beautiful cove and therefore they are able to take you fishing fairly close to shore. And with the custom built boats I hardly felt like I was even on the ocean. The lodge is beautifully renovated with all the comforts of home and more. The guides are amazing. Ryan the Head Guide clearly is an expert in the field. Not only did he keep us busy reeling in fish but entertained us with his many stories and experiences from years of doing what he clearly loves to do!!! He also makes sure that you are well taken care of at all times. Right after docking the boat he cleans and vacuum packs the fish and has it all boxed up and ready to be flown home. So Awesome!! At night after a long day fishing we were able to enjoy an amazing dinner followed by a dip in the hot tub while looking out into the cove. The view is AMAZING!!! Truly a perfect get way and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a High quality fishing experience and a peaceful getaway for the Ladies!!!.
Came to Vancouver Island Lodge with my dad for a boys fishing trip (and neither of us are experienced fishermen!) and we had a wonderful weekend. The lodge is beautiful, clean (brand new renovations) and in a gorgeous setting. Ryan (guide and host) grew up in the area, and it is obvious that he knows the waters well and can find the best places to fish. He was also very patient with us as we learned the ropes and reels. I would highly recommend VIL!
I had the pleasure of going to VIL on a guided fishing trip with my son.We are both very good rods ,and it was great. The guides we had are reel experts ,raised in the area ,both Ryan and Harvey their experience and knowledge of the area, makes them experts,by any definition. The lodge is new and very well kept. The fishing was great we limited out every day , our catch was taken care of excellently . The boats are well kept , and gear is first rate . I can't wait to go again next year , and I would recommend to anyone looking for great trip. The bonus is it is not far from Sooke or Vitoria .
Vancouver Island Lodge is not only the easiest lodge to travel to, but also the best place to experience fishing for Salmon, Halibut and many other species. From whale watching to hiking, there is so much to see and explore around Vancouver Island Lodge. Sooke’s popularity as a scenic tourist destination has existed for generations. Well-known destinations in Sooke, such as Whiffin Spit Park, the Sooke Potholes Regional Park, and adjacent Sooke Potholes Provincial Park attract visitors both locally and from around the world. Sooke is also home to the Sooke Region Museum and Visitor centre; where visitors and locals are able to get information on regional attractions and history. The area’s popularity has increased as a base for visiting the wilderness parks of Vancouver Island’s southwest coast — the West Coast Trail and the Juan de Fuca Provincial Park which includes the now highly popular Juan de Fuca Marine Trail.
