Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Escape to the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the sounds of the Shenandoah River. Located just 75 minutes from the Capital Beltway, The Chalet is the perfect getaway for couples, families or a small group of friends (2-6 people). John Muir wrote 'I am in the mountains and the mountains are in me.' That is exactly how you will feel when you step onto the wrap around deck with one of the most spectacular views in the Valley. The Chalet is designed with the mountains in mind. From most of the living areas in the Chalet, including the main bedroom, you can take in a postcard view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Chalet offers two bedrooms upstairs, both with Queen beds, as well as a double futon downstairs, and two full baths. (one on each floor). The kitchen is fully equipped and is only a step away from either an 8' x 39' outdoor deck or your own spacious 10' x 20' screen porch. On the screen porch you will find a table and chairs for outdoor dining and a hammock where you can lie back, relax and listen to the s ounds of the Shenandoah River. For more relaxation step into a Brand New 4 person hot tub under the stars and watch the full moon rise over the mountains. The interior of the cabin is accented with rustic knotty pine trim and abounds with natural light. Enjoy all the beauty and authenticity of a fireplace with the convenience of a gas log fire situated where you can view it from the dining and living areas. For those who would like to have a real fire or want that camping feeling there is an outdoor fire pit.

Our river access is only a 1/2 mile walk from the chalet. We are also within a half an hour of many popular attractions such as canoeing or tubing on the historic Shenandoah River, hiking in the Shenandoah National Park, horseback riding, or fly-fishing on a mountain stream. You can take a drive along the Skyline Drive, explore the depths of Luray Caverns, or just browse for antiques in downtown Luray. For children there is Jellystone Park with miniature golf and the Luray Reptile Center and Petting Zoo. Massanutten Ski Resort is only 45 minutes away.

The Chalet is a great base for year round activities in the mountains of Virginia. Come enjoy the privacy of your very own cabin in the woods.

If we do not have your dates available in the Chalet, take a look at our other properties.

Comfortable with beautiful vista

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was in excellent condition. It has a hot tub, fire pit, and charcoal grill, all in good working order. We greatly enjoyed our stay.

Quiet, peaceful, great location

  • 5 of 5

The view was amazing! We really enjoyed the quiet seclusion, yet wineries and good eats were 20-30 minutes away. The Chalet was well taken care of and had everything I needed to cook a nice meal. Linden and Glen Manor wineries were amazing!! A good little lunch spot is Pavemint (lots of beers). Overall a great getaway with the perfect accommodation.

Wonderful, relaxing Memorial Day

  • 4 of 5

First of all, I want to say that while I don't believe in 5 star reviews (that assumes that the property and everything associated with it is perfect, which is, frankly, impossible) That said, "The Chalet" is about as good as it gets when it comes to what is important to me in a mountain getaway. It's quiet, accessible and isolated enough that you can't see your neighbors. The views are beautiful, from both the large first level deck and the small deck outside one of the upstairs bedrooms. The furnishings are appropriate and comfortable, as are the two queen beds. Both bedrooms are upstairs with one large full bath between the bedrooms at the top of the stairs. The other bath is downstairs, off the kitchen, with a shower stall. The house was very clean, the cleanest that I have rented on Homeaway (and I've rented a few) and has well-equipped kitchen with quality utensils and dishware. The range is a small four burner type typical for a cabin with an oven. There's a refrigerator with a top freezer that gets nice and cold for your refrigerated goods. Central air. The hot tub was clean and ready to go when we arrived, no temperature adjustment necessary. There is a gas fireplace on the first floor at the bottom of the stairwell off he dining area, which is an odd location but presumably done because there really isn't any place else to put it. It's still a nice touch, and very simple to operate, with timers and an off switch. The water pressure was good in the kitchen and upstairs bath, although the downstairs shower was a little weaker than I expected. Outside off the kitchen the renovated (or added) covered porch is very nice, with an outdoor table and chair set where you can enjoy the outdoors even if there's an afternoon or evening shower (which is prone to occur in the Shenandoah). The Weber charcoal kettle grill is excellent and a great choice, not the typical gas grill you usually see in rentals. It was also clean and we were very appreciative that Derek (or someone) left a half a bag of Royal Oak for us to use. There is a fire pit near the entrance to the chalet and again, a stack of wood was left for us to use which was a nice bonus. We were very happy that there are on-site trash cans, too, so we didn't have to haul our trash out in our vehicle when we left. Down the mountain, there is a private lot available to access the Shenandoah River. I highly recommend "The Chalet and would definitely rent it again. Thanks!

Peace and Tranquility

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing weekend get-away! The cabin was so clean, lots of space, and offered everything we would need to relax.

The views are amazing! We were able to enjoy the sunrise and deer coming down the mountain as we sat on the deck with our morning coffee. (We were blessed to have an extremely warm weekend for February!). We have not been so relaxed in a long time.

The Shenandoah National Park/Skyline was a day full of driving/hiking/sightseeing that is not to be missed. Luray Caverns was also a great spot, although again, we were lucky to be there when the crowds were minimal.

Back to the cabin- comfortable, clean, relaxing, the hot tub is a definite bonus! While little updates could be beneficial, nothing stood out as a deal breaker or even close to it!
