Our well-appointed home in Tahoe Donner (finished June 2014) is on a quiet street with a backyard that opens to a 30 acre greenbelt. Enjoy endless trees right from the outdoor hot tub rather than looking into a neighbor's backyard!
3 master suites with attached bathrooms (3.5 total bathrooms), 4th bedroom with a queen sleeper sofa and a large loft area (2 total Aero beds available). Sleeps 8 in beds and 4 more in Aerobeds.
This property is AWESOME! The owners keep their home in immaculate condition. They provide everything that you'll need for a great vacation. The owners were very responsive during the entire process and we really appreciated the small details that they provided like a very clear and thorough welcome guide and welcome basket.
We recently stayed over President's Weekend 2016 and we were enjoying all the snow in the backyard. You can't tell by the photos, but the backyard has many clearings in the woodlands that allow for snow playing fun. There is a nice wide open slope on the hill about 100 yards from the back door that our family enjoyed sledding on for hours. If you have kids or if you like playing in the snow, this backyard can't be beat. The woodlands are serene and expansive with many places to explore.
The hot tub was a definite plus after longs days of skiing at Squaw (about 20 min away). The ambiance lighting inside the hot tub is especially nice at night. Another small detail that we appreciated is that they pre-bagged the hot tub treatment for us so we put in the correct amount every time after use. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are well taken care of. They use hot water on demand so be patient for the hot water to come out. The kitchen is great for cooking big meals. The best gas range we've used. They have all top notch pans and cooking utensils. Our kids loved the upstairs loft with the aero beds. The kids had their own cozy hide out. The 2 car garage is wide and tall (over 10 ft). So if you have a cargo box on top of an SUV, you'll definitely fit inside without any clearance issues.
They do have 3 TVs but just be aware that they don't have cable or over the air antenna. The living room TV uses chromecast and the others are smart TVs that you'll need to logon with your own streaming account or service like Netflix or Vudu.
This is NOT mentioned in their description even though they don't allow pets - the owners have a cat, so if you are allergic to animal hairs or dander then this place might not be for you. I'm just providing this bit of information so you can make the appropriate decision for your rental choice. We found out by seeing the cat crate in the mud room entrance and there is a cat climber tree in the living room. It didn't affect us since none of us are allergic.
This place is great for families with kids. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here and look forward to coming back again.
Back again this year for 4 nights over the holidays. No change in quality of the house - it is clearly very well maintained and actively used by the owners. Large open plan kitchen and lounge area with big dining table is perfect for hanging out. House is warm and cozy, showers and bath are spacious and water is always hot. This year we had fun in the hot tub and sledding down the hill by the side of the house. Looks like staying here may become an annual thing for us!
We had the privilege of staying at the Tahoe Donner cabin, it had everything we needed (and add some).
It was the perfect scenery for a family vacation, and the great launch point for a few Tahoe hikes we embarked on.
We will surely come back to this cabin in our future visits to Lake Tahoe area.
We usually come to Tahoe in the winter to Skii, but this time we decided to see what it has to offer in the summer so we stayed at this place with another couple. It was such a pleasure and I'm really glad that we found this cabin! The house is large and can actually accommodate more people (has 3 large bedrooms with private baths). It is in new condition and beautifully decorated with all the amenities you need for a perfect stay. If you like cooking - you will really enjoy the modern kitchen. We especially loved starting and ending the day at the hot tub in the backyard, overlooking a pine tree forest. What can be more relaxing than that? We got tips from the host about hiking and hanging out on the beach at Donner lake (which you can enter as guests of this cabin). The host was great - very responsive and easy to contact. We will sure be coming back to Tahoe and hope that this cabin will be available. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Another family and ours enjoyed this fantastic new home in Tahoe Donner during Presidents' Day weekend. All the personal touches as well as attention to "real living" details and accommodations made this trip feel like we were guests in a good friend's home. The owners were very responsive during the whole process of VRBO reservation, check in, as well as checking in to see if our stay was suitable - great service!
We also enjoyed the home's location to Truckee and the ski resorts, and its setting in Tahoe Donner was beautiful!
We look forward to returning!
My closest friends and I stayed here for the weekend and it was by far, one of the best cabins I've stayed at in the Truckee area. The house is really beautiful. We loved the beds, bathrooms, gas fire place and the dining area. We love to cook and make food so the double ovens, 6 stoves and double sinks made everything much easier. The hot tub was actually much closer to the back door than I imagined, which was great! I would definitely stay here again, without a doubt!
One really minor detail: for some reason, the heating was not distributed as equally as we'd like. The downstairs room was warm and cozy while the upstairs room were a bit chilly. Other than this, five stars all the way.
