Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-9)

This is our 2nd home that we've decided to make available on a small scale - as such, you will find that Hansel Haven has everything you need for a relaxed and luxurious vacation. Welcome!

Enter through the airlock front door into our inviting great room. The living area has plush carpet and leather seating, a wood burning stove (wood provided), and a beamed open ceiling. The kitchen is fully appointed with microwave, ceramic glass top stove, the world's quietest dishwasher and all the cooking utensils and small appliances you could ever need. There is breakfast bar seating for 3 and a massive dinning room table with seating for 12.

The Master suite is on the main level. It has a wonderful Eastern King covered with a down comforter. There is a private bath with dual sinks and shower, walk in closet (contains a roll away bed), TV with DVD, and a private deck overlooking Prosser mountain. The view is stunning!

Also on the main level is the inside laundry room with washer and gas dryer. You will find a number of games and extra linens on the shelves within the laundry room. There is also a shared full bath complete with tub/shower combination.

The stairs up take you to the oversized loft. Here you’ll find a game table, library, TV and THEATER. The theater consists a high-definition projector, a drop down 120" screen, and full surround sound. Bring your favorite blu-ray movies and sit back and enjoy after a long day. You'll enjoy sitting on the massive leather sectional (our kids prefer to sleep here versus in beds!). The loft deck has a supreme view of the adjacent Tahoe National Forest with Prosser Hill in the distance.

The stairs down from the main level lead to two additional bedrooms. The “queen room” has the queen bed, a large closet and access to the lower deck. The “bunk room” sleeps four with a double bed, twin bed, and a slide-out trundle under the double. A full bath with shower is adjacent to the lower bedrooms. The lower level can also be accessed through the 3 car garage.

The home is equipped with an elevator that can be used for a small fee. This must be arranged in advance. Please contact us if needed.

Hansel Haven is also perfectly located. We are on Hansel Ave very near the intersection of Landeau Lane. We back to the open forest with a slight downslope which gives us wonderful views. Only a few steps to the Hansel trail head that connects to the Tahoe Donner hiking trails. Hansel Haven is 1/4 mile from the Trout Creek Recreation Center and the Tahoe Donner Golf course. At the Rec Center, you will find 2 pools, 3 hot tubs, two workout rooms, a sauna and steam room. Adjacent to the Rec Center is the Golf course, driving range, and a wonderful nature trail.

Need more Recreation? Donner Lake is 3 miles away. Prosser, Stampede and Boca Lakes all have fishing and boating as well and are about 4 miles east. In addition to Tahoe Donner’s hiking and biking trails, the entire national forest is at your disposal (maps are in the kitchen). Horseback riding? The equestrian center is 2 miles away. Skiing? Tahoe Donner Downhill and X-country centers are about 2 miles. Depending on traffic you can reach North Star, Squaw, Alpine, Boreal, and Sugar Bowl in about 15 minutes.

Truckee boasts a score of diverse restaurants, many are award winning. In addition, Truckee has many quaint shops where you can spend your time considering local art, fashions and collectibles. A guide on the kitchen counter gives more specific ideas for activities in the area.

So make yourself at home. Hansel Haven is a great place to figure out what you want to do on your Tahoe/Truckee vacation.

About The Owner

This is a mother/daughter owned homed (along with our husbands). The mother is a retired school teacher and her husband will soon retire from the same field. The daughter and her husband work at a major computer technology company. We all reside is the Bay Area of California - about 3.5 hours from our wonderful home.

The Owner purchased this house in 2003

Why The Owner chose Truckee

We bought this home in this location NOT as a vacation rental property - but as a place where we could create and share fond memories with our direct and extended families. We love the mountains and the surrounding area of Truckee and sure you will as well. Since we cannot be there all the time, we make it available for rent during other times. This is our home first, and a rental second.

What makes this house unique

See Property description as it more than covers the wonderful benefits of our place and surrounding area.

Family trip to the snow

  • 5 of 5

Our group (2 couples with a 3 yr old and 4 yr old) had an amazing time at the Hansel Haven! Laurence and family were very communicative and thoughtful. The house was clean and had everything we needed, with lots of room to spare.  We cooked in and was near enough to town for take-out. In a big snow storm, we were so cozy and warm.  The views were peaceful and magnificent. The house was child friendly, and we loved watching movies in the theatre at night.  We happened on a weekend with lots of snow at this elevation.  From the driveway, we made a path up through the snow down the side of house (away from the eaves) to the backyard.  The property had lots of open space with a downward slope, perfect for sledding with the kids (I had fun sledding myself!).  We did not have to leave the property for a perfect snow experience. I would love to come back to the Hansel Haven. Thank you for sharing with us!

Fun in the snow

  • 5 of 5

We had a great snow trip your home was warm and inviting. The kids enjoyed making a snow run and playing in the snow and able to go right back up to the cabin for food and warmth. Everything was there that you could need. We will definitely be back. Thanks again for a great place to enjoy. The Lynch 's

Excellent, Warm and Inviting Home

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at the Hansel House for a week and had a wonderful experience in this home. All of our beds were extremely comfortable, the home was clean, spacious and accommodated all of our needs. Our two boys, ages 5 and 7 had an absolute blast playing around the property. The location was close to the swimming pools, bingo night at trout creek, Donnor Lake, and Truckee (such a fun mountain town). The owners were very easy to work with and I felt like the price was beyond fair and worth every penny. Thank you Hansel House for the great memories. We hope to be back next season!

Perfect Tahoe Donner House

  • 5 of 5

We spend a week each summer in Tahoe Donner, and have had mixed experiences with the quality of the houses we've rented. This house goes to the top of the list! We loved the location, on a quiet street with no rear neighbors, but close to both TD pool areas. Fantastic forest views out the back, and easy access to the TD hiking trail through the backyard. My kids (3 under 10) enjoyed the loft / entertainment area for reading and playing games. The house itself was clean, spacious and well maintained. Very comfortable for relaxing and spending family time. We will definitely visit again in the future.

Very comfortable, clean, and nicely furnished home with a lot of room to spread out. The house had everything we needed and a beautiful view from the decks. The owners were great to work with and gave us many suggestions for activities in the area (they also have a great binder with instructions for the house as well as local attractions). The kids loved the loft/game room with large movie projection screen. House is centrally located--very close to Donner Rec Centers and easy commute to lake. Would definitely rent here again.
