About Charlie Newmark

Dreamer. Explorer. Grew up in New Jersey and moved to Southern California 17 years ago and never looked back.. I LOVE LA and all it has to offer. Entrepreneurial in spirit. I like to think I'm pretty friendly and I know I don't bite. I live very close to the property so I'm here if you need anything otherwise I will stay out of your way so you feel comfortable. If there is anything you are wondering please feel free to ask.

Charlie Newmark purchased this house in 2009

Why Charlie Newmark chose Los Angeles

Unlike other properties in the area, this one is unique in that it is located on the actual Venice Canals, and we genuinely care for the comfort of our guests and it's important to us that you have a memorable experience. The home is in the heart of the community...the elegance of Santa Monica combined with the eclectic free-spirited vibe of Venice, all on the beach and within walking distance.

What makes this house unique

The home is both cozy and big enough to stretch out. We take great pride in the cleanliness of the home and of course the hottub is great at night to enjoy a glass of wine and to watch the sunset...the balcony off the master bedroom looks right over the canals and there is always great people watching as they paddle their kayaks along the canals and walk by. You may even see a newborn group of ducks trailing their mom through the waters. The kitchen has everything needed for a big dinner or a small breakfast. Wolf Stove & Fridge, coffee maker, blenders, mixers, you name it. Fireplaces on both floors and flatscreen TVs with every channel. Want to stretch? Yoga right around the corner, surfing from some of the best instructors right up the street, and paddleboarding & sailing right in the marina. Events locally, like First Friday on Abbott Kinney, are amazing for live music and great gourmet foodtrucks. Emerging artists, designers and musicians can be seen within blocks of our place, and laid-back dining to world-class chefs are everywhere. We love to show off our community!! Ask us anything...

Amazing house in best area of Venice

  • 5 of 5

This house really made for an amazing vacation!!! The location is perfect you are close to all the action on Venice Beach but far enough away from the circus. A short walk or bike ride to Abbot Kinney stores and restaurants. Everything you need is literally just a short walk away. The canals are so peaceful and beautiful - you really feel like you are in paradise.

I cannot say enough about this house!!! This house is immaculate. The house is furnished and decorated so beautifully and comes with every amenity imaginable. Charlie the manager could not have been more helpful and was such a pleasure to work with. This house also comes with daily cleaning service and Ana the housekeeper was the best. All the beds were extremely comfortable and the tempurpedic in the master was unbelievable. Pictures do not even do this house justice it is even more beautiful in person. We were a group of girls 2 adults and 2 20 year olds and we all had the most amazing time - we really could have just spent our entire vacation at the house and we all would have been perfectly happy. The rooftop deck and hot tub were such an oasis for us after long days of adventures.

If you are torn between different properties do yourself a favor and choose this house you will not be disappointed!!

Fantastic property on the Venice Canals

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just finished spending 3 weeks in this lovely house and we couldn't have been more pleased! Charlie, the property manager, was outstanding in every way - helpful, accommodating, warm and easy-going. And Anna the housekeeper, who comes in 5 days a week, keeps the house spotless, and is a lovely person to boot. The other reviews of the house give you a good feel for it - we had another couple come stay with us for a week which was very easy, and then we had 2 more people stay over for a night...no one felt in the least bit crowded, all thought the beds were just terrific, and enjoyed the strong showers, chocolates by the beds and all the little touches that made this rental feel like a 5 star property. You won't go wrong renting this place...Venice is a lot of fun, and it is easy to get to Santa Monica and Culver City. We are bikers, so we really enjoyed the 26 mile bicycle path just out our door going south to Redondo Beach or North to Will Rogers Park. You can go further but the bike path stops there. We found some great restaurants - loved Barrique, the Ivy at the Shore, One Pico at the Shutters....the Rose Cafe for Breakfast or Superba were great. Its easy to get around and lots of Uber support if you want to be driven somewhere and not worry about the parking or driving after having a few drinks. We will definitely be back. Thanks Charlie and Anna for a spectacular home base.

Outstanding elegant home for two couples and two adult sons sharing holiday with local relatives

  • 5 of 5

The photos are representative of this very attractive house but make it seem smaller than it is. Two sets of cousins hosted a one week Christmas holiday on the Venice canals including imported and local kids and grandkids. The kids walked the few minutes to surf and body board, the older folks strolled the canals or the beach, everyone walked to shop Abbott Kinney in Venice and/or drove over to Santa Monica Main Street.

The dining table seemed small in the VRBO photo but sat 10 adults comfortably for several large dinners, although that required every available chair (we suggested that the generous closets could easily accommodate a few extra folding dining chairs). The front sitting room also seems small in the photos but it is a big room that accommodates a servicable baby grand piano with plenty of room for a Christmas tree and a pleasant crowd of 10 adults plus kids opening presents in front of a fire. This room has windows on three sides with glazed French doors opening onto the pretty little patio and small yard on the canal. The kitchen is big and convenient, the cupboards and appliances extensive and excellent (requiring a extensive search, at first), and the coffee pods were used to the utmost.

There are lots of good options for breakfast and lunch (eg Cows End) and drinks on Washington a short walk away. Restaurant dinners locally were OK but only the "Charcoal Venice" surprised us with its quality and interest - the Siam a block away along the canal was too mild for our taste in Thai food.etc

Cleaning materials are abundant and so we were surprised that Anna provided full cleaning services most days, since this was not made clear in the description. It was, however, most welcome since table cloths and napkins are supplied in abundance, with Anna keeping the pile clean.

The house has two pretty exterior aspects. One side of the house has an arbored walkway passing the main door, while the canal-side has glazed French patio doors overlooking the small patio and yard.

The master bedroom is very large - ideal for hosting snoozing babies - with ample storage - another room really.

The second bedroom has a queen and ample room with a large bath and fair sized dressing room.

The room with the twin beds had its own full bathroom, and fit two adult kids fine.

The downstairs half bath was ample.

Fitting with the house, the garage is spotless white and fit our two cars a bit tightly but OK. It included bikes etc.

Wonderful getaway

  • 5 of 5

We went to the Los Angeles area to visit an adult daughter who wanted to stay with us in the Canal area and explore Venice. The Canals did not disappoint! It was a very relaxing setting and provided wonderful walking opportunities. The home was very comfortable, clean, & well maintained. As an example of the attentive management of the property, we reported to Charlie that the Master Bedroom TV was not working, thinking

it was our user error. He came very promptly and took a look. In conversation with the owner they decided the TV was inoperable and

would replace it the next day! We loved the proximity to Abbott Kinney area and the dining and shopping options there. We would come again!

Unbelievably beautiful house and setting. Well appointed to every little detail. Perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

This house is not to be believed. It is stunning. From the grand piano to chocolates by your bed. I believe its as good as any 5 star hotel in terms of decor, location and setting on the canals, Its easy to walk to the heart of Venice Beach and Marina del Rey. it literally took our breath away to sit in this lovely house. We had rented 2 other houses for family, but this was by far our favorite. Its quiet and air conditioned with a cleaning crew that comes in each day, just like a hotel. The owner is friendly and thoughtful and extremely helpful. We would highly recommend this property to even our most finicky of friends or relatives who often want to stay in very high end hotels. Thank you for the experience.

Kirsten and Bil Gamble from the Bay Area.

The Venice Experience

  • 5 of 5

To truly enjoy Venice you have to stay there and absorb the true vibe of the place. This house is the perfect place to do so. It is beautiful, with luxurious bedding and bathrooms. The location is excellent on the quiet side of the grand canal and easy walking (2 blocks) from Washington where you can find Alans market for beer and wine and staples, and Cows End for coffee each morning. If you are feeling frisky, head to Hinano's in the morning for a great breakfast burrito and a pitcher or bloody. you will really see locals there!

Nothing you can complain about here. Great place.
