Classic Mountain cabin awaits on American River

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,800 sq. ft.
Property type cabin

About the property

This cabin sits 40 feet from the stunning boulder strewn South Fork American River. This ideal location is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast. Welcome to the hidden street of Strawberry Lane in Twin Bridges, behind the Strawberry Lodge. This cozy neighborhood is quiet and relaxing and close to many mountain activities. This location is ideal off highway 50, before Echo Summit and Tahoe basin, allowing a comfortable, 3 hour drive door to door from San Francisco. It is in walking distance to the historic Pony Express Trail, Lover's Leap and other back road adventures. Enjoy the historic Strawberry Lodge, a walk away, for breakfast, dinner or a drink in the bar or walk to the Strawberry Market for the convenience of a small country market. The home is accessible even in harsh winter road conditions as it is located just west of where 50 closes for chain control.

Our families use the cabin often and we have furnished it with love and attention to detail. We needed to be able to entertain our kids, cook big meals, wash up, sleep comfortably, play games, watch movies and repeat. I don't think you will not find what you need or are looking for. We want you to feel like you're at home and not in a rental. Come check it out! The home is adequately stocked with new linens, kitchen utensils, some basic flour, spices, oil etc. 3 bedrooms and 2 baths plus some fold out futons allow for 8 to sleep comfortably on beds and 2 more on floor futons for a maximum of 10 occupancy. The leather couch in the downstairs living room welcomes many to lounge up and relax to your favorite DVD (no cable tv). The wood burning stove heats the entire home and electric heaters are in bedrooms if needed.

Outside, the deck has patio seating for 8, 2 tables with umbrellas that overlook the river. In the summer the river slows down and a small soaking area is quite inviting to chill off in. From the front door it is possible to go on trail runs/hikes, mountain bike rides, dirt bike rides, walk to lovers leap campground which leads to climbers access to Lovers Leap and cross country ski from the door around on the local roads and forest service tracts.

Hope you can come relax at our mountain retreat as it is a real gem in on of the best locations out of the Tahoe madness. But if you do need to run over the hill it is 25 min to the Y intersection in South Lake Tahoe and 45 min from Placerville.

About Nannette Wilkinson

We are a partnership of 2 families that jointly own and privately manage our cabin.

Nannette Wilkinson purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Nannette Wilkinson chose California

Because its on the River!! The river just soothes the soul and its access to outdoor activities out the door! We have been climbing in this are for over 20 years and the outdoor jewels here are amazing and in our opinion just as good or better than Tahoe without all the traffic, people and hustle and bustle.

Beautiful cabin, lovely town

  • 4 of 5

This is a beautiful location with central heating with a wood stove and beautiful windows facing the river, literally a stone's throw away. There were space heaters in each room and plenty of games to play. They also have a board with the heights of visitors and my group was proud to include the tallest person to have ever stayed at the cabin!

Our only hiccup with the trip was that there was no more foil in the cabin. We ventured out to buy some at the Strawberry General Store, which was unfortunately closed. We swung by the restaurant/ hotel/ ski shop across the street and the gentlemen there were so kind and welcoming! They gave us more than enough foil to use and gave us several tips on sites to see in the area. Check it out if you go! Just make sure you have everything you need before you arrive at the cabin.

Overall, it was a spectacular experience and its very likely we'll be back again! Thanks for an amazing stay!

Great snow house!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our family in December and January. When there is snow, the yard is a winter wonderland - perfect for building a snowman. This house has just the right amount of dishes, linens, etc. while still providing closet space. Beautiful home in a quiet area. You can tell the owners have pride in this property, as it was spotless when we arrived.

This is very close to skiing, sledding, rock climbing, and fishing.

Will stay in this house EVERY time we go to the snow.

My only complaint was that the owner took awhile to respond back with cabin details (called me the day of my check in). I flew in from SoCal and did ask if I could drop off our stuff early so we can head to the lake without all the luggage but never got a response. I happened to catch the cleaning lady as she was finishing so thats how I got in.

Pictures and descriptions of the cabin are accurate. Cabin can fit 10 people but if you want to be comfortable, having 8 is perfect. Having the river in the backyard was really nice and a great view to look at while bbq'n or sipping on coffee in the morning. All in all everything in the cabin are in good condition and everything you would need is provided. This cabin is definitely worth renting and I will book again.

Beautiful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My husband and our 3 kids stayed for an extra long weekend at this cabin. The A-frame cabin was beautiful right down the street from the Strawberry lodge. The backyard was amazing. 3 sitting areas with a large deck to BBQ while listening to the river steps from the house. The view was breath taking. The area was perfect. Great hiking right out the door. It's right between 2 large lakes to fish and a short drive to South Lake Tahoe. Having the market around the corner was great for those things we forgot.

Inside was decorated so nice. It was a real cabin in the woods feel. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Not a cramped place where everyone is on every corner, but very large. It was fully stocked with everything you need that you would have at your own house. You just bring your dinner.

There were movies and games for us to just hang out and spend time together. We will definetly stay again. It was great memories and the owners were so amazing. We looked at a lot of places and are so happy we chose this one!

A perfect mountain retreat

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights. What a cozy place. The kitchen had it all and was super clean and ready to go. We stayed in the main room off the living room. The upstairs was clean and very nice with a big bathroom. The back deck over looks the American river and a great view. It's on a super quiet street and great neighborhood to walk around. We will be back ...Thank you Jen !!! Tom & Alicia

Only businesses located in Strawberry/Twin Bridges are the Strawberry lodge with bar/dining and Strawberry Market; Basic supplies, climbing gear, some winter gear, beer wine, milk, eggs, etc. South Tahoe is 30 minutes north of the house. Wright's Lake for biking trails and canoeing is amazing, Ice House Reservoir has a boat ramp and is big enough for water sports, jet skis, fishing, swimming, camping, exploring etc., without the traffic and crowds of Tahoe. Horse Tail Falls is a great place to hike and there are a couple of sweet spots to jump in! There are so many wonderful swimming and fishing holes within walking distance from the house. You can walk right up and climb Lover's Leap. There are 4-wheel drive areas for off roading. We rarely go into Tahoe itself with all of the fun things to do right here and better yet, we don't have to fight traffic in and out of Tahoe. Trust me when I say this area is a little slice of Heaven...
