About the property

Bay View "isle of View"

The cottage is in beautiful historical Bay View. We recently updated with all the comforts of home. The kitchen has vaulted ceilings, custom cabinets, and a wonderful table that easily seats 6. The large living spaces makes this cottage feel very open and relaxing. The master bedroom is on the main floor with a double bed. The first floor bathroom has a tub with shower. Two additional 2nd floor bedrooms (one twin, one 2 twins) share a bathroom with a shower stall. High quality mattresses throughout. The living room area has a flat screen HDTV TV (cable), internet (wired and wireless), DVD and VCR. The interior of the cottage is mostly bead board and paneling, new carpeting and new rolled flooring. The upper flooring has also been freshly painted. Side porches and sunny, spacious indoor living spaces cheerfully accommodate visitors. Amenities include washer and dryer, a generous supply of linens and beach towels, and water heater and new heating system, also air conditioning so everyone can count on being comfortable. Many lovely places for entertaining.

Stroll through the Victorian gingerbread wonderland that is Bay View, bike to nearby shops and restaurants in Petoskey, Harbor Spings, and other close and charming towns, or sit together on Victorian swinging benches and watch the sun set over Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan. Walk to one of two Victorian Inns in Bay View for an excellent meal or return to enjoy your own gardens and create a feast of local white fish, smoked salmon, cherries and peaches, etc. in your newly remodeled kitchen. Whether you come to enjoy the rich fall color or the summer sun, you will be pampered in the lovely 'Isle of View.'

Sweet week in Bay View

  • 4 of 5

This is our second year spending a week at this property and everything went well. We have only one complaint and that is that the bed on the first floor is only a double bed which is very tight for two not-small people. But the cottage is spacious, bright, well-equipped and super clean. Have already made plans to return next year - hopefully with a bigger bed!

Simple Cottage by the Bay

  • 4 of 5

Stayed in the area for a wedding over the weekend and this cottage worked out great. Very convenient location to Petoskey, Harbor Springs and Bay Harbor make it ideal for people who want something simple but in the mix of it all.

The downstairs has the larger of the beds with (4) twin beds upstairs which is great for groups or families. The stairs leading to the upstairs are a little narrow and being a taller person I found myself on the main floor most of the time when we were there.

Very convenient having a full bath on both levels and kitchen and fridge were great to store the basics for the local market which is less than 5 minutes away as were several other shops and attractions. Great little backyard with parking, seating and a fire pit we didn't get to use. Short walk to the water front and path that takes you up and down the shore of the bay.

Cottage does sit on the main road so road traffic noise could wake some who may not be used to it or live in a city setting, but otherwise this is a great spot and if I ever find myself back in the area I will be sure to see If the cottage is available.

Cute as a Button and Clean

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I along with our dog and cat stayed here for a week in July. We were lucky to find a place in Petoskey that would accommodate both of our pets. The cottage is very clean and has so many homey touches like vintage plates and decor, fresh cut flowers on the table with a checked tablecloth, and bunches of lavender. It is well equipped; all you need is your luggage. Each room was nicely decorated. We made use of the fire pit and picnic table. We enjoyed walking through the Bay View community and even attended the lovely church service. It was a treat to see the Victorian cottages up close. We also walked the dog along the waterfront and on the bike path and enjoyed the sunsets from the beautiful memorial gardens across the road. The double bed downstairs was too soft for my back so I made use of one of the twin beds and was glad my husband thought of earplugs as we are not used to the sound of traffic. My husband commented that a very tall person would have to stoop to get up the stairs to the rooms with the twin beds and second bath and the downstairs bathroom shower has a low ceiling too. All in all we were charmed and would gladly rent again. As others have said, Jeni was wonderful.

Wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in the cottage for a week with our two sons. We loved the cottage. It was clean and well cared for. The cottage had everything we needed for our stay. The location is excellent. You have access to the Bayview community and are close to Petoskey. Jeni, who was our contact, was so nice to deal with and answered all of our questions promptly. I would highly recommend booking this cottage!

Some good, some shortcomings

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I and our daughter and son-in-law stayed at this cottage for a week this July. While it worked out well enough that we are probably going to rent it again next year, not all is great. The downsides are that it is located on the main street, so noise was a bit of a factor, the main bedroom downstairs has only a full bed, which felt very small after years of sleeping on queen size and king size beds. The upstairs "bedrooms" have only twins, but that wasn't really an issue. The third downside is that there is really no privacy in that the only door in the cottage is the one bathroom door. The downstairs bedroom has only a folding screen that doesn't extend across the whole opening and upstairs, one bed is in the open area at the top of the stairs, which then leads to the other two twins which is also open to the bathroom. One other downside is that you must rent the cottage for a whole week, and only Sat-Sat. We only needed it for 5 nights, so that made it more expensive. The upsides of the cottage, though, are also many. Because all of the original beadboard walls have been painted white, the cottage was very bright. The kitchen is huge and well enough equipped, the whole cottage was very clean, and the flatscreen TV and cable and Internet were all great. While there, the coffeemaker stopped working and while I replaced it, Jeni then came over immediately to reimburse me. We're looking forward to returning next year and if it had a queen bed, it would be almost perfect!
