Beautiful, relaxing cabin with great hiking nearby!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I visited Winding Falls for 4 nights and had a great time. The cabin is fantastic and the surrounding property is beautiful. Locally, we had a good time exploring Leigh and Wolf's property which includes the winding falls of Meadow Fork. We also ventured to Hot Springs to hike up to Lover's Leap and stopped for dinner in town. Another hike worth doing is Max Patch which offers some great views - apparently you can see Mt. Mitchell on a clear day! If you like hiking, definitely worth the trip.

There is plenty of local trout fishing spots. Some right on the property, but many more if you want to drive a few miles. Some of the closest streams are hatchery supported, but wild trout streams are a short drive away.

Leigh and Wolf were also fantastic to rent from. Very quick to respond to any emails or calls which made things very smooth. Even called after we checked in to see if we needed anything - very thoughtful! We definitely hope to make a return trip next year!

Make sure you call the owners before you arrive to make sure no excavation is going on

  • 1 of 5

My husband and I reserved this cabin four months in advance as our honeymoon getaway, as we wanted something remote, private and quiet in the woods. After we traveled several hours to get there, we drove up to the beautiful cabin in the woods only to hear the extremely disturbing sounds of an excavation crew running heavy equipment on the property. The owners of the property are having their new home built directly below the "Romantic Mountain Getaway" and never bothered to call us and tell us there was going to be heavy equipment/excavation going on during our scheduled stay for a week. Since the owners were present on the property where the excavation was going on, we walked down and spoke with them and they did refund our money after some discussion. Regardless of this fact, this was supposed to be one of the most important and memorable vacations of our lives, and it was ruined by the owners' lack of concern for us as their guests. Even though they refunded our money for the cabin rental, we were not able to find another place to rent on short notice, and we were not refunded for our fuel costs to get to and from the cabin. There is nothing that could compensate being completely devastated on what was supposed to be the first day of our honeymoon. All it would have taken was a telephone call to tell us that they were building their house on the property and that we may want to opt out due to the excessive noise. Is that really too much to ask?

Owner's Response: FACTS ARE INTERESTING THINGS... Firstly, we were more than surprised to see a review posted from guests who chose not to stay for their reservation. We pride ourselves in looking at and evaluating our guests' comments through their eyes. We ourselves use HomeAway for our vacations. We noted several inconsistencies in your comments: —We made a clear offer to find another close by cabin (there are several), you declined. —You said you preferred to return home since it wasn’t far, Hendersonville (less than 90 mins) —We have forty-two acres of nature to explore with trails, waterfalls, meadows, forests, etc. ,always open to our guests. The work being done was on an an acre, not visible from the cabin. —Our housekeeper mentioned that no equipment noise could be heard from the cabin. — In your words: “they did refund our money after some discussion”. My husband offered a full refund immediately after you declined our offer to find another close by cabin. —The full refund was made to you the same day, February 20th. The comment about building our home directly below the "Romantic Mountain Getaway”, is interesting. We have 42 acres; something we looked a long time for this special to build our retirement home. We believe this property is exceptional and have chosen to share it with our cabin guests, even after we live on the property. Obviously we had many places to choose from on our property for the home site; the last thing we would do is choose to be visible or audible from or to the “Romantic Mountain Getaway”. There is a third of a mile of dense forest as well as elevation change between the two. As you mentioned you booked over four months ago. We were supposed to be living in our home a while ago. With the delays, weather, and sub contractors, there is no way to predict when or what would be happening February 20th, 2017. There was no “warning” to us, therefore we had none to give to you. In summary, we feel wrongly characterized by your review. The equipment work is finished and we will be moving in soon. Our cabin and property is unique and special, as all of our guests, but you, were able to enjoy and return to time and time again for their visit to these beautiful mountains. Sincerely, Leigh & Wolf

This is it

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and our small dog stayed at this cabin a few weekends ago and had a really great time. The minute we arrived late at night to the cabin, the clean air of the mountains was very striking. The cabin is perfect with many places to sit and relax on. The kitchen and dining area were perfect for our needs too. Building a fire each night added to the mountain cabin feeling. And the whole time, the relaxing sound of the nearby stream filled the air. We went for a few hikes down some trails and visited the running streams, which were very relaxing to watch. I could have stayed a lot longer than 3 nights I can tell you that. Catching up on reading, relaxation, and quiet time was much needed. Anybody on the fence about trying this cabin out has nothing to worry about.

Beautiful location, secluded, wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Winding Falls. We awoke each morning to a beautiful mountainscape. We walked our two dogs to the falls, had a peaceful breakfast, and then either settled in front of the fireplace or prepared to hike at Max Patch. Overall this was a fantastic vacation, and we would recommend it to any of our friends.
