Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 2

Sparrowhawk House is a 1000 sq/ft custom home that is now accepting reservations. We are located on Bald Point near Panacea, Florida in a small, quiet beach neighborhood along the Forgotten Coast, surrounded by Bald Point State Park.

Bald Point is located on Alligator Point, where Ochlockonee Bay meets Apalachee Bay on the Gulf of Mexico, and is a great destination for birding and wildlife viewing. Each fall, bald eagles and other migrating raptors, along with monarch butterflies, are commonly seen heading south for the winter. History buffs will appreciate that during World War II, Bald Point was the eastern edge of Camp Gordon Johnston, where the Normandy landing rehearsals were conducted, and stargazers will like the very dark night skies.

Sparrowhawk House is constructed of local materials including river-reclaimed heartpine floors, deadhead cypress siding, and cherry counter tops and cabinetry. There are beamed, vaulted ceilings, and a large sunporch that overlooks the beach with stunning, panoramic views. The enclosed porch also features a double Murphy bed, which is perfect for those who want to wake up to the sunrise over the Gulf. Our master bedroom is nestled in a quiet corner with windows on level with twisted live oak trees. You will sleep deeply and comfortably on our queen-sized Tempurpedic mattress. The bathroom has a tile walk-in shower, and our 'wing-span-kitchen' is fully stocked for cooking up some delicious beach food. The southeast-facing deck overlooks the Gulf of Mexico, a boardwalk to the beach, and nearby native trees.

The house is 75 yards from the water. To get there just walk straight down Grouper Street, or you can use the boardwalk behind the house.

Note that Sparrowhawk House is 'self-cleaning', ie our guests clean the house themselves on departure. All supplies are provided, as is a cleaning checklist.

June 2015 Owner Notes: If you have read this far, you will know that our little beach house is now hosting guests...and we have learned a few things! It is very important to us that our guests have a pleasant and successful beach holiday, but it is also important to us that we (and our wonderful beach neighbors!) are happy with our guests. Therefore, please consider the following:

*While Sparrowhawk House is available for a maximum of 4 guests, it is really more comfortable for 1 or 2 persons.

*While we do allow (and LOVE!) children, our beach house is not what we consider to be child-friendly.

*Sparrowhawk House is not available for event-hosting.

*A maximum of 2 vehicles may be parked in the driveway (and none on the street or yard). Boats and campers are not allowed.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Joel & Allise,

We feel like we have just spent three days living in a work of art. The attention to detail combined with the respect for local materials and talent makes this space truly special. We spent quite a bit of time soaking in the smell of the wood, looking at the unique touches and appreciating your thoughtfulness.

Then we walked on the beach and explored Bald Point State Park - where we met a beautiful snake, an alligator, a white squirrel, and a very large lizard! When can we come back?

Beautiful property!

  • 4 of 5

The property was beautiful and the setting was really pretty too! One thing I wish it had was a grill on the porch. It is really remote so you aren't eating out very much! The living beach was really cool. I would recommend this property no problem.

Perfect !!!

  • 5 of 5

I LOVE this house ! Words cannot describe how beautiful and unique it is . We wanted to stay here forever ! We walked a little ways down the beach and soaked up the sun on what felt like our own private island ! We took a day trip to St. George and toured the light house and visited the park . We enjoyed dinner at Angelo and Sons on the deck overlooking the water . Joel was great as well ! Always just a call or message away !

The owners planned the perfect smaller getaway for two people.

  • 5 of 5

It is very comfortable and has everything you need. Location is great. Can't wait to go back...plan ahead though as it has a loyal following and sometimes hard to find a place in the busy schedule!! It is well worth waiting for.

Beautiful, serene,relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

The Sparrowhawk House is conveniently located about 120 yards from the beach. The morning sunrise is spectacular and the days are breezy and peaceful. Its far from the hustle and bustle of resort beaches and is a true vacation. We saw all kinds of bird life and deer everyday. The house itself was well appointed and comfortable.

This is a thoughtfully designed and lovingly cared for home!

We loved our week in this beautiful spot! Enjoyed riding our bikes through the area and walking the almost private beach. We got closer to a pair of bald eagles than I'd thought possible. The views are amazing from this cozy home. We'll be back!
