Get away from it all in this luxuriantly appointed, beautiful 4-bedroom home with spectacular water and territorial views. So quiet all you can hear is the swish of birds’ wings.
Samadhi House is perched atop Mt. Dallas, the highest point on San Juan Island in Washington state. It boasts spectacular views of Haro Strait (separates the US from Canada), the Canadian Gulf Islands, Vancouver Island, and forested mountains. Surrounded by the glories of NW nature, you can’t see a single house. But you will watch as cruise liners silently head towards Alaska and eagles and hawks soar overhead. You may even spot the occasional whale breaching in the Strait. At night, you’ll see the distant lights of Victoria and Sydney B.C. The perfect private retreat!

We love to travel, write, meditate, be out in nature and connect with others. We hope our home allows for all of those activities for you. Samadhi House contains many of the artifacts of our life of travel and study. We share it with the hopes that you will find the same peace here that we find.
Ajayan Borys purchased this house in 2014
We fell in love with San Juan Island many years ago and have been coming up here to write for 7 or more years. We have looked and looked for our house. When we saw this one we knew we were home.
Samadhi House allows for complete peace. We love the view from the master bedroom, the view from the chaise lounge in the living room (with a good book of course and binoculars near by), the view from the downstairs great room and the feeling of the whole house.
Nice house lively view. The kitchen was well supplied. Both bathrooms have deep jet tubs. This made it difficult for 2 of our ladies that have knee and balance issues. There was a walk-in shower upstairs. Again, same issues. But we had a good time. The sunsets were amazing.
There are a couple things I wish we would have known before booking. It is on a primitive (rough) road with a steep gravel driveway. Some cars would really have trouble. Also, the fact that the entrance to the house is up 2 flights of stairs. The 4 beds on lower level can not be reached from inside the house. They are like a separate apt. I feel those things should be information to have before you decide to rent. If they are not an issue for your group, then enjoy your time.
Half an hour (uphill) from Friday Harbor. The drive is so worth it, as this home is a true retreat. Sitting outdoors and seeing Eagles, a black fox, and many deer as we chatted and inhaled the fresh air, was all we could wish for. 11 adults for a family reunion, and the house accommodated us all with quality linens, well equipped kitchen, books, DVDs, and beautiful art.
We played games (we brought some and he had someand took short trips to Lime kiln Park and Roche Harbor, but also walked up the road to a gazebo with another magnificent view.
Mr Borys is a pleasure to work with. He responded quickly to a few questions I had. The owner's manual was exceptionally thorough as well.
The house is even more attractive than the photos. And the views rivaled those of us who look out at the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic, and Pacific oceans on a daily basis!
I highly recommend this vacation home and would love to return someday.
This home is beautiful. Had a great stay in this wonderful well stocked and pristine home. That said, the place could have been a shack and I'd have given 5 stars for the incredible tranquil location and the most amazing view and breathtaking sunsets.
Amazing mountain top views of Haro Strait, Canadian Islands, treetops, eagles, hawks, hummingbirds, and lots of neighboring deer. Very relaxing and lovely well-appointed home (furnishings, amenities) with bedrooms on 3 floors, ideal for multiple families/groups/family reunion. Drive includes some remote steeper gravel and dirt roads. Owner is very responsive, friendly, welcoming, and accommodating.
San Juan Island absolutely beautiful, serene, and relaxing, excellent vacation destination, with opportunities for whale watching (we saw ~15-20+ orcas at a rare Transient Greeting!), kayaking, buying live/fresh seafood, good restaurants/eateries, amusing alpaca farm, lovely lavender farm, lot of beautiful rolling countryside, bike and moped rentals, and parks/camps, museums, harbors, and marinas to explore.
Our family spent 3 days at this lovely home retreat. What we saw, online, in the way of photos of the layout of the home were quite accurate. The view, alone, was worth the stay. This is a great home for a family gathering. The lower floor works so beautifully for teenagers who like their own space. The master suite is huge and can accommodate husband and wife and one or two children. The bedrooms on the main floor were quite adequate for couples. They are the only bedrooms that do not have a view of the water. The home was clean and well-maintained.
Speaking, again, of the water view, because of the large windows in this home, the water view comes inside the home and makes for a beautiful backdrop to the lovely furnishings inside the home. The kitchen layout is quite adequate for multiple cooks. The kitchen is well supplied. The barbecue, on the deck, is large enough for grilling for 9-12 people.
Though we were up on a mountaintop, we were only about 20 minutes, by car, to either Friday Harbor or Roche Harbor. The children had a great time kayaking and paddle boarding in Roche Harbor. Friday Harbor was fun for shopping, and for restaurant hopping. It would have been so easy to spend our three days secluded at our mountain retreat. So do not feel you need to go anywhere. The owner was very personable. and customer service was excellent. Yes, we would recommend this home to our friends, any day!
Our goal was to gather some family and friends for a birthday celebration. We could not have chosen a more wonderful home for the gathering. The home was beautifully appointed with a calming and peaceful interior while the views from the wrap around deck never ceased to awe. Evening sunsets and eagle watching were daily highlights along with exploring the beautiful island. (Lime Kiln State Park is a beautiful short drive away and not to be missed.) I would highly recommend Samadhi House to all folks who are looking for a beautiful, quiet, and comfortable home.
Located right above Lime Kiln State Park, the most prominent Orca watching point in the Pacific NW.
