Beautiful property perched high on a hill with great views of the water and Victoria, BC. I think the views were honestly our favorite part! The house was clean and everything worked.

My group had a wonderful time at this house. The views from the house and porches were incredible, especially at sunset, and the home's location close to Lime Kiln Point State Park on the west side of the island was a treat!

Check in was easy with detailed instructions. ( appreciated that). We had 11 adults 55 to 65 plus 1 83yr old. The kitchen and dining was fantastic. All of our cooking needs was accommodated. It was a delight that not only did the home sleep 11 it was accommodating for serving 11 with proper dining for 11 plus. The home is very clean, very accommodating and represents its self well. Impressive water preassure along with no lack of hot water. Yay!!! The wraparound deck with veiw, stunning. We had our share of front seat wildlife that never gets old. A memorable weekend with my 4 siblings their spouses and our mother. Our host was delightful and welcoming. We look forward to our next visit to this lovely home and all it has to offer.
Wonderful, isolated getaway perched high on the mountain.
Ajayan (host) communicated well and provided a lovely mountain cottage high on Dallas mountain with a beautiful view of the water and distant islands and mountains. It was a very meditative experience!!

Hi Arlene,
So glad you enjoyed your stay. You said you didn't see how to leave a full review, and now I think the window is closed, so if I may, I'll copy what you said to me here: " Hi we are home and had a wonderful time. Refillled Hummingbird feed, there
were soo many Hummingbirds. The review that showed wasn't a review don't know what that was. Is there a way to give a review. We all loved the house and had plenty of room."
Property was peaceful, quiet and secluded with the most incredible views of Vancouver Island. We enjoyed the island visiting Lime Kiln Point State Park, Cattle point Lighthouse and Friday Harbor. Very nice home for a family retreat. Thanks to Ajayan for being helpful and available for any questions that we had.

Marvelous San Juan House – Transcendent Experience
This marvelous place on San Juan Island was exactly as advertised. The home itself is gorgeous. It has wonderful amenities, beautiful light, and it makes the absolute most of the incredible view it has of the rest of the island and the Haro Strait. The host is also fantastic – friendly, proactive, and easy to communicate with. Can't really ask for more.

Our multi-generational family of 9 had a wonderful week in this house on San Juan Island. The views from the house including sunsets are spectacular., and there are plenty of activities on the island. Our week was unseasonably warm, and we recommend a couple of additional fans for such times.

Lovely house--the only real problem was the smell of incense.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. Looks like we may have to add to the house rules to please not burn incense, which apparently the previous guest did. Sorry about that.
We had a wonderful time at Samadhi Hiuse and spent a lot of time enjoying the amazing views from the deck and watching the hummingbirds. Beds were comfortable and we had plenty of sleeping space for 12. Very close to Lime Kiln Park as well as San Juan County Park. Had a great selection of games and easy to hook up a phone to the sound system for music. Kitchen had everything we needed - even an Instant Pot! Owner was very responsive to our questions and answered quickly.

Thank you, K! Delighted you enjoyed your stay; we love to share our little piece of island paradise, and you were the perfect guest, BTW! :-)
If you seek peace & tranquility this is the rental for you. 4 bedrooms, 8 beds and sleeping for 12 assuming some are couples who sleep together. Perfect for larger groups that want a quiet, remote, rental with spectacular views. San Juan Island not that large so this location works wherever your island adventure takes you. I do not recommend driving to this location in the dark.

So glad you enjoyed your stay, Paul! We loved hosting you as well. Hope to see you again! Yes, there are no street lights, so arriving in daylight is ideal, which is fairly easy during prime rental months since we have daylight until 10 pm most of the summer. That said, some adventurous guests have arrived after dark, and I'm happy to say all have arrived safely. :-)
Ajayan and his daughter Sudha were wonderful hosts during our stay, and it was reassuring that they live nearby. Our communication was instant, and they were ready to attend to any question or need without hesitation.
Views are spectacular, and the floorplan was perfect for our various families. We did most of our own cooking and the kitchen and dining areas were big enough for our clan. The wrap around deck provided play areas for the little ones, and evening guitar and sing-a-longs for the group.
We would love to make another trip to San Juan, and will be happy to stay here again!
We had an absolutely wonderful time! What a fantastic place you have built! With the wonderful view and the construction that takes advantage of that view, coupled with the inspiring art at every turn, it was like being at a mini-retreat! My wife and I loved your libraries, and took pics of the shelves to follow up.I think you have coolest office space in the state. What a view!We liked the Sauna so much my wife is interested in picking up a model from that manufacturer. What a relaxing way to unwind. It was also fun using the telescope. Another way to ponder the universe, a big theme at Samadhi! All of the above led to an adventure we'll never forget. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home.Bill & Sara

I had a wonderful time. The weather cooperated. Had wonderful sunsets. Could of used a bigger kitchen and more space to put kitchen supplies, groceries not needing refrigeration. Got into watching Virgin River at night. Went kayacking, whale watching... saw 27 whales and about 20 sea lions, hiked, saw the lavender farm and store, went to American Camp and British camp, the winery, and saw many Eagles. Thank You for sharing your home. Mary

Almost Heaven
Our group of 10 stayed here recently to celebrate my 60th birthday. While the drive up the last part of the hill was a bit intimidating, the view from the deck and the floor to ceiling windows makes you quickly forget any troubles.
From the minute you enter this house you feel an immediate sense of peace and tranquility, and the natural beauty surrounding you is just overwhelming.
We spent our days exploring beautiful San Juan Island and in the evening we prepared some outstanding meals and just relaxed on the deck mesmerized by the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen.
Without television and electronic devices we spent quality time enjoying each others' company and everyone agreed it was a trip we will never forget.

Clean, comfortable, lovely space with great views
8 of us enjoyed a sweet June stay at this hilltop home. Complete amenities and comfort, 4 bathrooms, everything expected for a comfortable stay is provided. The house is surrounded by tall trees that still allow full views over the strait to Canada.
The nearest shoreline (10 minutes' drive) is also the best shore for orca viewing on the island. We spent some picnic lunches there and saw bald eagles and a seal, however the only orcas seen were on whale watch boats.
We had cellular signal (T Mobile, ATT and Verizon among our group) at the house.
The owner responded quickly to a couple of queries.
Only cons to mention are very slow WiFi (apparently due to remote location), and no TV signal, although we did play a previously downloaded movie.
The final couple hundred yards to the house is a steep dirt/gravel road & driveway approach. We had light rain and were still able to drive to the house, I do not know if heavy rain would make access more slippery.

So glad you enjoyed your stay, and thank you for the kind comments. Yes, Lime Kiln State park is not only the best Orca viewing site on the island, but it is said to be the best from land in the world. The Orcas often come right to the shore to feed on salmon that hang out in the kelp there. (The water is very deep even right at the shore.) Of course it all depends on luck! The season for Orcas is May - September. We've seen them many times, putting on quite a show there, breaching, etc., coming right up to the shore.
As for the drive up to the house, yes, it is gravel hill, then flat dirt road. The driveway at the house is steep gravel as well. For the past few years, we've both had Prius's and had no problem in all kinds of weather. They are front wheel drive though. I also have a pickup truck, which is rear wheel drive, and even with an empty bed, I've not had any problems, save once this past winter when we had a snow storm. We've been booked pretty fully for spring, summer, fall for the past 2.5 years and no one has ever gotten stuck, though one reported feeling nervous about the driveway. Comfort levels do vary. So please do note: If you like to stick to flat, paved roads, this is not for you. Sometime in the next couple of years, we do hope to pave it all though...

Samadhi house
Nice house lively view. The kitchen was well supplied. Both bathrooms have deep jet tubs. This made it difficult for 2 of our ladies that have knee and balance issues. There was a walk-in shower upstairs. Again, same issues. But we had a good time. The sunsets were amazing.
There are a couple things I wish we would have known before booking. It is on a primitive (rough) road with a steep gravel driveway. Some cars would really have trouble. Also, the fact that the entrance to the house is up 2 flights of stairs. The 4 beds on lower level can not be reached from inside the house. They are like a separate apt. I feel those things should be information to have before you decide to rent. If they are not an issue for your group, then enjoy your time.

I’m glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for raising those issues. We do want our guests to be well-informed before they rent and what is not an issue for most may still concern some. So the following might be of interest to prospective guests.
There are three tubs in the property and two of them are deep (20 inches) with jets. For some getting in and out may be a challenge. The lower floor tub is standard, only 13 inches deep. The master shower does have an 8-inch lip that you must step over to enter the shower.
The last few hundred feet of road is rough and the gravel driveway is on the steep side. For years we had two Priuses (very low clearance) and never had a problem. We’ve had weddings and hundreds of guests at our house and no car has ever had a problem getting in or out. So I do not believe any car will actually have a problem negotiating the road or driveway. However, if you are nervous about this, please consider it before renting.
There are a total of 10 steps to reach the front door on the main floor. The bottom floor, which contains 4 twin beds, is reachable only from the outside.
We love to share our paradise and as you can see from the reviews, the vast majority of renters love it as much as we do. Still, please be aware that even in paradise things are not necessarily perfect for all people. We hope this information helps you make an informed decision. Your enjoyment of Samadhi House is our priority.
Best,
Ajayan
About the host
Hosted by Ajayan & Keesha
We love to travel, write, meditate, be out in nature and connect with others. We hope our home allows for all of those activities for you. Samadhi House contains many of the artifacts of our life of travel and study, including indigenous art from Asia, India, Africa, Peru, and North America. We share it with the hopes that you will find the same peace here that we find.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with San Juan Island many years ago and have been coming up here to write for 7 or more years. We have looked and looked for our house. When we saw this one we knew we were home.
What makes this property unique
Samadhi House allows for complete peace. We love the view from the master bedroom, the view from the chaise lounge in the living room (with a good book of course and binoculars near by), the view from the downstairs great room and the feeling of the whole house.
