Modern two story shingled Cape style home built in 1980. The home is situated on more than 1 acre with 800 feet of 99 Cedar is an original summer cottage perched above the sea at the very end of Bailey Island. Secluded far from the road, nestled in a grove of pine and spruce, the house is pure tranquility. Each beautifully appointed room is both comfortable and authentic.
Enjoy naps on the porch swing or relax on your private sandy beach, restaurants and shops. Explore tide pools along the rocky coastline. Go sailing or kayaking. Fish for striped bass from your own private dock, just steps from the porch. Enjoy fresh lobster pulled from the ocean that morning by one of the local lobstermen.
Whatever you choose to do, it all comes back to the view. Clear and calm one day, misty and grey the next. Sit back and watch the sea and sky change with the weather. Hour by hour. Minute by minute. Always beautiful. Always different.
PLEASE NOTE: this year we are not renting the apartment as a separate unit. The house is one rental only and there will not be another party in the garage apartment.
Bailey Island will give you the opportunity to slow down, and remember how good it feels to do nothing at all, surrounded by friends and family.
20 minutes from Brunswick and Bowdoin College. 30 minutes from Freeport and L.L.Bean. 45 minutes from Portland.
Private beach, plenty of rocks to explore, hermit crabs in the water: the kids were busy exploring the property.
You basically have your own private peninsula. It's quite remote. The supermarket is ~30 minutes away.
I recommend renting a kayak close by and paddle back to the house and keep it during your stay. It's a nice quiet bay.
The property provides hours of entertainment for exploring the ever-changing environment. The rocky edge provided ample opportunities to search for crabs of several varieties, mussels, snails, etc. ; the sandy beach with gradual slope allowed us to play in the sand and do some snorkeling (we went the 3rd week of June - still chilly!); the public beach next door and access to island at low tide provided hours of searching for the perfect shells or sea glass; the dock allowed us to try our hand at fishing (Mackerel was caught, but the Stripers were a bit more elusive!) and we played many games of baseball on the large yard! The house was well equipped with everything needed to make for a relaxing vacation. We vacationed with 5 adults and 4 children, aged 3 - 9, and there was something for everyone with plenty of room to roam. I would recommend this property to all those who want to get away and enjoy some R & R!
This house was just right for my family and grandchidren. It had a wonderful level manicured lawn that went down to a beautiful private sandy beach. The views from the house were wonderful and could be seen from two sides of the house. The house itself was large and roomy enough for all of us with plenty of private areas. The owner was very helpful with supplying us with whatever we needed in the house. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here since you could swim, kayak, scuba and snorkel right off your beach. Lobsters and steamers were just across the bay five minutes away. My family would definitely come back again.
Amazing!!! The home and property was truly beautiful. First time any of us had been to Bailey Island and truth be told we were quite intent to just stay on the property and enjoy the location. This is a true gem. The apartment above the garage was rented to a wonderful family and we enjoyed cocktails together some evenings. We had plenty of privacy and so did they. We hope to return next year.
The home is located on a very private peninsula, with a very short hop to the public beach which is easily accessible. Plus it has its own smaller sandy beach, long dock, and lots of lawn for game playing. Lots of outdoor seating and a lovely deck with amazing views. The interior of the house itself is nothing spectacular, but my guests and I only went in to sleep and make meals. When I rented I was fortunate not to have anyone else renting the attached apartment. That's a drawback, unless you can rent both house and apartment together. Lots of good restaurants. We liked the Cribstone Grill and the sandwiches at the small general store best. And the Giant Steps, about a mile away, are beautiful.
Bailey Island is located within the town of Harpswell, a unique coastal community which recently celebrated its 250th birthday. For decades Harpswell has been a mecca for vacationers seeking a saltwater environment, a serene way of life, and an abundance of natural beauty. Its 216 miles of coastline consists of Harpswell Neck; the three large islands of Sebascodegan (Great Island), Orr’s Island, and Bailey Island, which are connected by bridges; and a scattering of over 200 smaller islands accessible only by boat. With some of the few remaining working harbors on the Maine coast, Harpswell offers an authenticity of which we are proud.
Bailey Island a beautiful spot that provides visitors with many wonderful activities: beaches, fantastic walking trails, a Sea Life Learning Center and tidal pool touch tank, gift shops, art exhibits, and much more.
