SPECIAL: August 26th - September 2nd, Book Seven Nights, Get the rest of Labor Day Weekend Free! Check out Tuesday!

Start a summer tradition in the heart of Grand Beach! Located across the street from the lake on one of the highest points in the village, Sky Haven is the ideal gathering place for family and friends. Swim in the 20'x40' private pool, sit with your children in the smaller attached "kids" pool, or relax in the hot-tub just off the master bedroom. Watch some of the best sunsets in the WORLD from the back deck and soak up the lake breeze. Lake Views are partially blocked by trees and a couple beautiful homes across the street so walk down the block and have your toes in the sand within minutes. Playground, Tennis Courts, and Basketball is a five minute cart ride away, as is the major beach with a pier and creek. Don't forget your clubs as golf is just a two minute cart ride away from this ultimate summer escape!

Property is set up to deliver the BEST experience among family and friends with all the essentials provided by life-long Grand-Beacher: Free Golf Cart Use; Two Kayaks; Fifteen Beach Chairs; Extra Fridge in Garage; Brand New Fully Equipped Kitchen with Extra Oven Below Counter; Dining for Twelve+ Indoors or at Enormous Outdoor Table; Billiards Table in Basement; Three Separate Living Areas with Couches and HDTVs; Gas Grill; Charcoal Grill; Outdoor Couches; Chaise Lounges; Deck Chairs; Fire-Pit; and a Full Length Bar and Foosball in the Cabana.

The gigantic master bedroom is perfect for a family of five+ or just one couple as it holds six extra beds in addition to the king. Two more bedrooms on the main level provide a king and queen bed plus ample closet space. The lower level hosts two additional bedrooms with four bunked twins and a crib in one room, and a queen in the other.

The beach is a quick walk away. Load up the golf cart with your beach chairs, and cooler (no glass), then roll down the hill, make one right turn and stop before you come to the edge of the dune. Leave the cart and spend a day on this secluded, residents and guests only beach. Once the sun sets start up a bonfire and drift away with the sounds of the lake! There is a much larger beach with a creek and pier just a few minutes southwest.

Need to cool off and get out of the sun? Head down to the game room in the basement! Full length billiards table has new professionally installed slate/felt for hours of fun. Or, with ample couch space, disappear from the crowd and catch a ballgame on the HD Cable TV.

Call or e-mail with questions about the house and/or local restaurants and attractions. You will not be disappointed!

(Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the recent one star review. This stems purely from a financial issue I tried to amicably resolve one month before the renter's stay.)

About Robert Kegan

I've spent every summer of my life in Grand Beach and look forward to many more. I love to cook, golf, dine out and sample craft beers which makes Southwest Michigan an ideal home-base. I work in Chicago and am especially interested in introducing this wonderful corner of the world to those who have not yet experienced it to its fullest. I aim to provide the best vacation experience for you and will be happy to help with any reasonable requests you may have.

Robert Kegan purchased this house in 2014

Why Robert Kegan chose Southwest

Grand Beach is a small community that you need to experience for yourself. Primarily developed in the teens and twenties, it retains all the charm that's been accumulated over the years. From the Frank Lloyd Wright homes and white Sears Cottages, to the Mid-Century Ranches and Multi-Million Dollar Mansions, this is a beautifully balanced, perfectly ideal beach community.

What makes this house unique

This property is a 1960's mid-century modern ranch with stylish yet comfortable furnishings and all the amenities one could ask for. The home is located on top of a dune with the lake to the West and a golf course to the East. Its proximity to New Buffalo and Michigan City gives you the choice everyday to enjoy the village of Grand Beach or head into town for any number of activities.

Beautiful property, perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at Sky Haven twice: Labor Day weekend and New Years weekend. When our group started planning for New Years, I suggested we look into Sky Haven as I had such a great time over Labor Day weekend. While weather dictated that the pool and hot tub would be closed during New Years, our entire group still had a great time at the house. The close proximity to breweries, Michigan City, and New Buffalo made planning actvities pain-free. The house was immaculate and comfortably accomodated all 10 of us. Robert was responsive and a joy to work with. I would not hesistate to book Sky Haven again!

Misrepresented advertisement, poorly maintained, way over priced

  • 1 of 5

We have been renting houses in SW Michigan for 10 plus years. Of the places we have stayed, this home is the most expensive and the most disappointing. There are items that we expected to have and to find while renting a home, and this home unfortunately, lacks many of these amenities and had many problems.

• There was duct tape holding the floor in the master bathroom together. This is an unacceptable eyesore, which we unfortunately have to see every time we use the bathroom because the door won't clear over the rug.

• No hooks - IN THE ENTIRE HOUSE - not even in the cabana. For a house that has a pool and isn't far from the beach, there is nowhere to hang wet suits/towels. We actually bought 3m hooks and hung them in all the bathrooms and bedroom.

• There was a lack of bath towels for the number of guests that you can house.

• There were weeds covering the entire property which is very unsightly.

• The window treatments hanging in the big bedroom weren't hung right and fell down the first time we tried to close the drapery. The decor in general was lackluster.

• Dead bugs and debris filled the sliding door tracks, especially in the bedroom

• Laundry room was gross and not amply lit

• Toilet paper holder in the hall bath didn't hold toilet paper and breaks apart when used with toilet paper

• Inflatable pool toys all had holes

• Hammock was broken and unusable

• The house was generally unclean; dust and dirt under sofas and in corners of bedrooms

• Most screens had sizable holes

• All of our guests complained that the mattresses were uncomfortable

• Cabana bathroom had holes in the walls

• Grey bedroom light only worked when the fan is on, and bulbs were missing from fixture

• Broken fan light in the main room over table

• There was no small cabinet in master bathroom for toiletries (medicine cabinet is gross, and again since no hooks...literally nowhere to put your belongings like clothes, towels, etc...except the floor, which is being held together with duct tape!)

• And ALL of our past houses have at least been stocked with basics like toilet paper (and really every one has had much more, but TP?!)

The owner's response was that he would reimburse us for light bulbs, but not toilet paper. And he admitted his place could use some work, but suggested we look in a different area for updated accommodations. Stay here if you want to cram a bunch of people together; don’t if you want to feel like you’re on vacation.

Owner's Response: Of the small few items above that aren't gross exaggerations or lies, I have already made improvements where necessary. Additionally, a very small hairline crack that occured during a rental had to be covered with tape for two weeks. That bathroom has already been re-tiled. ......................Now some facts.....................First, this person contacted me one month before their family's stay and claimed that their second payment due must have been an error, all this after booking many months earlier. They argued that they never would have booked because it was way over their budget. I offered to relist the property and provide a full refund if I was able to book it in the month prior to the stay. They declined the offer. ...................Second, after their stay they demanded a $2,500 refund, which I refused as their claims were either untrue or inconsequential. I have a team of professional cleaners, pool servicemen, and a landscaper, as well as mattresses mostly 2 years old just to rebuke a few of their claims. I even refunded their full damage deposit after they smoked in my house and left it in the worst condition since I began renting. ..............................I absolutely love sharing my home and meeting new people. I do everything within reason - and beyond - to make this place as close to perfect as possible. I am so lucky and feel fantastic to have had dozens of families that have absolutley loved staying at Sky Haven. Please come visit me any time during the offseason to have a look around before you book. Many others have and went on to enjoy fantastic vacations. In fact, I have three returning guests booked for 2017.

Fantastic! Would book again, Family Friendly!!

  • 5 of 5

Loved Sky Haven! Evening family meals by the pool, seating for 12 or more outside. Pool and hot tub in great shape- played all afternoon, enjoyed the outdoor speaker system. Kitchen had everything we needed and more. Kayaks and pool/beach toys for more outside fun. Family friendly golf course with driving range. Bikes for cruising. Beach was 5min walk, enjoyed sunset almost every evening. Cards and gameroom, pool table in basement.

Master bedroom had King bed and 3 bunks. Basement had even more bunk beds- kids enjoyed the sleeping arrangements.

We unplugged from the world- but WiFi and Cable TV available if you want to plug back in. Golf cart was convenient to get around- and this is a Golf cart community. Had a great time!! Highly recommend it. Owner was always available by cellphone. Oh- we didn't even have time for the Firepit- which had a nice stand and a grilling surface, skewer sticks for roasting marshmallows in the garage.

Wonderful Week at Grand Beach

  • 5 of 5

We had 15 family members stay ranging from older adults to babies and we had plenty of room for all of us. We were blown away with the house and all of the activities that were available. There was plenty of room for all of the group in having meals on the patio and the kitchen had everything needed to feed the troops.

We would recommend this house to anyone seeking a week away from the regular and looking for a true vacation.

Of course there are some things that we noted that could make it even better. The lighting in the rooms and especially downstairs is very dim. I noted that there were bulbs missing or burnt out in some of the rooms. The light over the pool table is very dim. With an upgrade in the lighting, it would be much better. We all felt that an additional bathroom placed down stairs would work well in that those who stayed in the rooms downstairs had to go upstairs to find a bathroom.

Over all, the place was great and we would consider another visit and recommend it to others..

Great Summer Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Skyhaven and Robert was great to work with. We were a group of 5 families with 7 kids age 5 and under. The house was a great size and the outdoor space and pool were perfect. The Cabana was also great for extra space to put all our wet pool stuff over night to dry off. Overall a great stay and we plan to do it again next year!

Great Large Group Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from our family vacation at Sky Harbor. We had 8 adults and 7 kids (2-11). It is a wonderful home for all to enjoy including the pool, hot tub, kayaks, bikes and the golf cart is a great way to roam this beach community. The house is very comfortable, especially loved the large master with all the beds so the grandkids could bunk in with Grandma & Grandpa. The back deck with large table overlooking pool was a favorite gathering/eating site. To many things included to list that make the stay so easy to enjoy.

Robert was great to work with, he met us at the house and showed us around. He was very responsive to questions during our stay, including contacting us when he received notice of a power outage during a storm.

Definitely would return, considering next summer to explore more of Harbor County.
