1st Floor apartment in19th century village house - shared pool , WiFi & Sat TV

We began work on converting the Bastide into luxury apartments in early 2007 . We completed the project in mid 2008 . Because of it's age a lot of renovation work was required in order to retain the character of such a beautiful 19th century building . We are very proud of how it has all turned out and we look forward to sharing it with our many happy guests .

For over a century & a half La Bastide des Lavandieres has been a prominent feature in the small village of Canaules . Originally constructed in 1850 it has had a few different & diverse existenses during the intervening years . At various times during the 170 years or so it has been here the building has served the village as both a small hotel , a cafe & during the 50's & 60's - a chique French nightclub . Canaules is now a quiet village but during this period it was actually known as "The Saint-Tropez of the Cevennes" Among some of the high profile personalities who performed there was the French Elvis - Johnny Hallyday who unfortunately passed away at the end of 2017 . He may not be widely known in Ireland or the UK but he had more than 50 years of a career in music & he is still one of France's biggest stars having performed in front of 15 million people & sold in excess of 100 million records - 18 of which were platinum albums . Other famous French singers performed in Canaules also including Jacques Brel , Francoise Hardy & Charles Aznavour .
