Welcome to The Blue Ox, and do plan to stay awhile at this wonderful beach front home located in Hoodsport, Washington, because you won’t want to go home!
Enjoy breathtaking, unobstructed views of the Hood Canal from the main living areas, large patio, and spacious front lawn. Bald eagle, seal and otter sightings are common.
The “Great Room” layout lends itself well to entertaining or just relaxing. The family room has a TV, 2 sofas, two recliners, a day bed, and wood burning stove. After preparing meals together in the spacious, fully equipped kitchen, there is plenty of room to relax and dine together, given the large farm table, pub table, and bar area. The kitchen opens up to a large, water facing patio with plenty of seating.
The “Surf Shack” room is the perfect spot for younger guests to hang out. The Surf Shack boasts a foosball table, three sets of bunk beds, TV and extra seating.
The "Sunflower Room" -named as it gets the morning sun- offers a queen bed and rocking chair.
The "Bird's Nest Room" -named as the plentiful windows with full garden and water views make it the perfect spot for bird and waterfowl watching-has a day bed with trundle forming either 2 twins or a king. In this room also enjoy the large, down stuffed chair and the exterior door to the beach.
The entire property is on the "beach" side of Hwy 101, so there is no crossing of any streets during your stay. Low tide is a wonderful time for spotting marine life including starfish and moon snails. As the tide comes in, the tide pools are a perfect spot for toddlers and children to explore.
If shell fishing or long beach walks are your primary interest this is likely NOT the best rental for you. The Blue Ox is on a stretch of beach that is all privately owned. There are very strict property boundaries. The beach in front of the guest house is large, but renters must be aware that it is bordered by private property on each side.
Kayak rentals are available in town.
At the end of the day gather with family and friends around the outdoor fire pit. At night the stars are astonishing, and you will be able to sit fireside as you star gaze and enjoy the sound of the tide lapping at the bulkhead.
The town of Hoodsport is the perfect base for expeditions into Olympic National Park. The magnificent Olympic Peninsula offers some of the best hiking in the Pacific Northwest, with trailheads a short drive away . Also popular is a drive up Mount Ellinor in the Olympic Mountain Range, boasting a panoramic view. Lake Cushman, 6 miles from the property, is a wonderful spot for picnicking and swimming, jumping off Party Rock and inner tubing.
Scuba divers will love the wealth of ocean wild life to be seen when diving at Sund Rock, Pulali, Yellow House, Flagpole, Point Whitney, Mike's Beach and Octopus Hole (the latter just down the beach and visible from property). At depths of just 55 feet, you can see octopus, wolf eels, starfish, crabs, shrimp, anemones, algae bloom, and many other sea creatures.
In the quaint little town of Hoodsport you will find a helpful Visitor’s Center, IGA Grocery Store, several gift stores, The Hoodsport Coffee Company with delicious ice cream and espresso drinks, Puerto Angeles Mexican Restaurant with large outdoor deck, The Burger Stand and the Model T Tavern with its beer garden and mouthwatering broasted chicken. Very close by you will find the Hoodport Winery for wine, chocolate and hard cider tasting as well as the Hoodsport Distillery for spirit tasting. Other attractions include The Lucky Dog Casino with plenty of slots and delicious daily meal specials, Alderbrook Golf Course (12 mi.) and Lake Cushman Golf Course (6 mi.), both of which are public.
If you are looking for a day trip from the property the opportunities are endless; here are some that are most popular;

*Chambers Bay (60 miles) , site of 2015 US OPEN
*Olympic Game Farm (driving tour, face to face with wildlife)

Property highlights; Sleeps 10, waterfront, close to Bremerton Ferry to Seattle, close to Olympic National Forest.
We throughly enjoyed our stay at the Blue Ox resort. Would be nice if the sunroom was a Double or Queen rather than a trundle. Thank you for a wonderful weekend with our family and friends. Including our favorite 4 legged friends. The "Don't be crabby you're at the beach" sign was our Mantra for the weekend.
We really enjoyed staying at Blue Ox for our girls weekend. It was a nice house with plenty of beds/space. The town is great as well. The bartenders at the only bar are amazing!! The coffee shop was tasty & had some really good ice cream. Girls Café is small but they were able to accommodate 10 girls (after internally freaking out a bit, I'm sure). Overall, good experience!
Perfect location and home for a family to enjoy staying on the peninsula.
Doesn't matter if you are traveling to the parks and other towns or if you stay at the house for a few weeks and never leave.
The fresh oysters, clams and crabs right in the back yard are ready to harvest. Get a license first if you don't already have one. They have one tandem kayak or you can rent more. Apple and Asian pear trees on property are delicious too.
House has everything you need in the kitchen, linen closet and laundry. Large patio in the back to enjoy the view every morning and night.
We had a perfect weekend at the Blue Ox. This was the annual summer get-together of the Strasser clan and we agreed this was probably the best facility we have used since we sold our cabin 15 years ago.
Everything about the house and yard works really well for large groups. The patio is perfect, we loved the fire pit and the kids loved sleeping in tents next to the bulkhead.
This was a perfect place for my extended family. Plenty of comfortable beds for my 84 year old mother and my siblings. The house was completely stocked and beautiful. we enjoyed meals around the large table and on the back patio where the view was spectacular. The owners were gracious and answered all questions promptly. I would highly recommend this rental.
Our family gathered for a wonderful three day weekend to celebrate my son's college graduation. We traveled from Oklahoma, Kansas, Portland, and Olympia--the home was just perfect--with a large living, dining, and kitchen overlooking the Hood Canal! We were shocked to find oysters just laying all over the beach when the tide went out! We had brought our Waverunner which we launched at the public boat dock! We had many laughs, beautiful morning views with coffee on the deck, and a fabulous time playing board games, watching the final Stanley Cup game, and simply breathing in the sea air and beautiful views! Thank you Scott and Kim for an excellent place to stay!
