About Betty Bowles

I am an outdoor enthusiast and love living here in CO. I currently have a contract job which places me in Anchorage, Alaska - yet another wonderful place!

Betty Bowles purchased this townhome in 2007

Why Betty Bowles chose Colorado Springs

I bought this place because of its location close to my favorite hiking areas and the local swimming pool. I also felt that the outside appearance of the homes and that he floorplans of the living space were quite appealing. I actually modified the living space a bit to make it more open. Tear down the wall! In fact, I did most of the remodeling of the townhome to fit my style. Growing up, I lived in a Frank Lloyd Wright style home and really enjoyed the emphasis on nature which was brought into the design of the home. You will find some of those influences in my modelling and decorating. I used a lot of stone, wood floors, and open space to create a warm and inviting environment. I believe that you will enjoy the style and comfort in which this home is designed.

What makes this townhome unique

The location is quiet and serene. Deer meander over the property (eating my flowers and bushes!) and are interesting to watch. There is a turkey and chickens living nearby that you can hear every once in a while in the distance. It is close to all the attractions, yet not in the middle of all of the chaos that comes with summer tourism. It is really just a pleasant place to be.

Jim who manages the property was wonderful- helped immediately with a minor maintenance issue. The unit had everything we needed, and it was very pleasant. Many thanks to Jim and Ginger who took great care of the property!

Very nice, clean place. Caretaker was easy to work with.

I expected a little more room for guests to spend the night from the description. Other than that everything was great.

Very nice place. We enjoyed our stay.

The outside area needed a little attention. Lots of cobwebs and spiders. But the inside was really great. Clean and cozy. We will definitely go back and stay at the same place again.

Comfortable and well located

  • 4 of 5

this property is very nice and located in a very quiet neighborhood. Was easy access to all major attractions, from the royal gorge to the garden of the gods. However, the communal pool that is referred to is actually about a block away in the community center. This was slightly disappointing but with so many other things to do and see was very minor.

Great location for Pikes Peak

  • 4 of 5

Nice and clean property. Worked well for a single family. Would have preferred not have to schedule in person check outs for our stay. Doesn't seem necessary.

Not as Clean as Advertised - Security Deposit Slow to be Refunded

  • 1 of 5

I want to start by saying I have rented many times on VRBO and have never experienced what I have with this owner.

Although rent and security deposit were charged to my credit card immediately upon reservation, security deposit was slow to be returned. I had to ask for it 5 days after checking out. Owners comment to my e-mail request - "Hi The $XXX deposit is returned once my cleaners have cleaned up. The deposit is basically in case a mess is left and more than 4 hour cleaning is required. Thanks," Please note, I waited FIVE days before asking and that was her response.

About 1 hour later, I received another e-mail stating refund had been issued and owner stated "Cleaning deposit....patience, please, all things in their time : ) " PATIENCE!!! How long would I have had to wait if I didn't ask. I'm sure the cleaning crew didn't run over after my request and clean up, rather it was clean and the security deposit would be refunded "in time"

Here's the best part - You are required to do a walkthrough with the property manager upon check-out. He makes sure everything is in order and you haven't left the place a mess. But, according to the owner, you have to have "patience" and wait for the cleaning crew to clean in order to get your deposit. Then why do you have to do a walkthrough???

As for cleanliness - dog drool / wet nose marks all over side window. Kitchen table was dirty and required a balancing act to use as it was not put together properly. Dust bunnies hanging from ceiling. Bath towels provided were old and smelled a bit musty. Sliding patio door to the grill area was hard to open (we were told at check-in) so I didn't attempt to open it.

Loft bedroom - 2nd bedroom was not very private as it has a large window overlooking family room. Every little sound from the kitchen / family room would carry into that bedroom. After having been in the unit, I can see it in the pictures, but would have never seen it without knowing it was there; just looks like a large white shadow-box in the picture.

Lastly - the photos looking west at the mountains and north at the red rocks...well, I didn't exactly see those same views from the unit.

Manitou Springs was nice - I don't think I would stay at this home again.

Owner's Response: I am sorry this renter had such an unpleasant experience. It was not my intentions to add to his stress. To answer some of his concerns: 1) The VRBO site handles all credit card transactions. A reservation is made when a credit card payment is received. 2) The 'walk through' is to guarantee both parties agree that the place was left as it was found, or identify any problems. 3) There is nothing written in the contract about when the deposit should be returned. Typically I send back deposits twice a month, but definitely not until my cleaners have sent me their bill. If a customer needs it more quickly, I try to accommodate them as I did in this case. Attitude IS everything! I have plenty of customers who have written very nice things about their stay. I am sorry you experience was not as good.

Manitou Springs is a little mountain resort town nestled at the bottom of Pikes Peak. It has all the charm of the high mountain towns, but enjoys a lower elevation, 6500 ft, nicer weather, and close to COS and major airport. It is surrounded by great parks and the peak which provides rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, many historical and geological place to explore. One can hike, drive, or take the cog railway to top of Pikes Peak. Other adventurous activities such as white water kayaking, skiing, boarding, snowmobiling, hot springing are all day trips away.
