About Natalie Marsh

I grew up in the much rockier Rocky Mountains of Colorado, raising goats, chickens, rabbits, horses, and a rotating selection of other farm critters with my parents and my younger sister.

I moved to North Carolina in 2009 and have spent much of my time gardening, studying wild edible and medicinal plants of the Appalachian Mountains, building and remodeling, and raising and milking a few more rogue goats. I live just outside of Hot Springs on a sunny hillside with my husband Andrew and daughter Chloe.

I love to welcome folk to Hot Springs and the surrounding area, so don't hesitate to ask me for hiking recommendations, the inside scoop on local swimming holes, or where to find homemade Appalachian crafts!

Why Natalie Marsh chose Hot Springs

You can't beat how close to Hot Springs this place is, while still feeling secluded! Having such easy access to the Appalachian Trail is a great benefit.

What makes this cabin unique

The cottage-style gardens and natural wood and stone exterior of the cabin is a style I love! I hope that it makes people feel like they are in another place and time, while still providing all modern conveniences and WiFi Internet

Notes:
This cabin is one half of a duplex; this rental is for the Chickadee portion of the cabin. Each side has a completely separate entrance and parking. We call the other main section of this cabin Goldfinch, and it can be rented out in addition to Chickadee upon request. There is an interior door between the two sides that remains locked with soundproofing foam up. If both halves are rented, this door can be opened and the full cabin has the capacity to sleep 11 in beds. Perfect for a large group! Please see our Goldfinch listing (#724424) for photos and inquire for availability. Beginning in January of 2017, the interior doors connecting the two units will be removed as we remodel and upgrade our facilities. The full house may still be rented by renting both Chickadee and Goldfinch separately, but the two units cannot be connected inside.

Charming, Clean, Comfortable, and Convenient

  • 5 of 5

Chickadee is a charming little cottage, beautifully decorated inside and out. It is bright and clean, and everything works perfectly (heat and air, whirlpool tub, shower, ceiling fans, small appliances, and wifi--we didn't try either the tvs or the video players). The beds are comfortable and cozy, and the supply of towels and washcloths is generous.

The property adjoins the national forest, and the Appalachian Trail (which passes through the middle of Hot Springs) is literally 100 paces up the road from the cottage gate. To reach the Hot Springs Campground (at the opposite end of Hot Springs), where our church group was camping, took only five minutes by car and fifteen to twenty minutes on foot.

The owner was very good about providing all necessary information in a timely fashion (and sending helpful reminders as the date of our stay approached) and responded quickly to our email questions. Every aspect of renting Chickadee and staying there was a pleasure, and we would love to have an excuse to return.

Cutest little cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Chickadee & fell in love within 10 minutes. The garden was flourishing with vitality when we arrived. Flowers blooming. Bees buzzing. The patio was the perfect place to drink it all in! The interior was adorable as well, and that tub was a very pleasant surprise! Wish we could have stayed longer! Truly hurt our hearts to leave. No photos do justice for this cute little cottage!
