About this property
AS SEEN ON HGTV BEACH HUNTERS! Oceanfront, Amazing Whale Watching and Snorkeling
Welcome to Koni Kai, Hawaiian translation: Passionate Sea. Koni Kai is a beautifully designed, very comfortable oceanfront home. Considerable time and effort has been spent to ensure Koni Kai is equipped with everything one might want/need while on vacation.
Koni Kai is perched on an ancient lava flow on the South Kona coast in Milolii, the oldest fishing village in Hawaii. If you are looking for nightlife (other than some of the best constellation viewing on the planet), then this is probably not the place for you. If, however, you are seeking a luxurious personal refuge that promotes relaxation and rejuvenation, then you have found your perfect vacation destination at Koni Kai. Located 30 miles south of Kailua-Kona and just an hour’s drive from Volcano National Park, Koni Kai provides the perfect home base to lounge all day on the 1000 square foot sundeck, explore nearby black and green sand beaches, experience the dramatically different eco-systems in the rainforests near Hilo, or hike the volcano to search for petroglyphs and watch active red lava flow into the ocean. Regardless of how you choose to spend your days, you will be welcomed back to Koni Kai with some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world, the perfect backdrop for the dramatically rugged landscape.
In the winter months (approximately November thru March), you will be able to sit on the sundeck and watch Humpback whales migrate, spinner dolphins perform and the occasional green sea turtle swim up to say hello. Some of the best snorkeling, diving and fishing can be found directly in front of the house due to a coral reef that spans the north side of the bay.
While we would hope the majority of your vacation is spent “un-plugged” from the chaos of the rest of the world, we understand there will be occasions when you need to check-in, so complimentary Wi-Fi internet and high-definition satellite television are provided. A brand-new, state of the art water filtration system, to include UV light, has been installed. The kitchen includes a Wolf gas range, Kenmore oven and microwave, Bosch dishwasher and every small appliance we could think of. There is also a laundry area with a brand new Whirlpool Duet hi-efficiency washer and dryer.
Koni Kai welcomes you with much Aloha, now and for all your future Hawaii visits. Please contact us with any questions you may have – we look forward to making your stay as pleasant and memorable as possible.

We enjoyed the solitude, ocean breeze, and stargazing… The location is remote. Driving is challenging at night or in the rain. The Volcano National Park was not too far of a drive and we enjoyed venturing out daily to discover new and interesting sites.
Absolutely fantastic place to stay. Beautiful patio with swimming and snorkeling down below. Saw dolphins every morning. Peaceful and private away from the congested parts of the area. Ample room, great laundry facilities, wifi, and a smart tv. Tankless water heater so plenty of hot water for showers. You’ll be sad to leave once your trip is over. 10/10!
The location is impressive. It’s clear that you are right on the water but until you’re actually there you can’t appreciate how great this location really is. It can be an adventure getting there at night with the roads but that’s much of Hawaii in my experience, and it definitely is part of the experience.
Indoor outdoor living at its best. Windows and sliders all around to take in the sweeping ocean views. This house was closer to the water than all neighboring houses- made it very private. Well equipped kitchen made cooking meals easy. The huge back porch is where we spent most of our time watching the waves crash on the beach. If you snorkel in the nearby beach you will need water shoes and go at low tide when the waves are calm. The snorkeling is worth the effort so do it! We did not want to leave!
This house was awesome. The amenities, proximity to the ocean, and character of the place were top-notch. The only thing our family didn't love - which was completely on us for not paying attentino and didn't matter enough to affect the rating - was the remoteness. It is great once you're there, but traveling anywhere from the house takes quite a bit of time. That said, we still loved it and would stay here again even with that information.
We stayed here for our honeymoon. This house was absolutely beautiful. We loved it. The location is perfectly secluded for a romantic get away. Nice peaceful house with an amazing view and access to the ocean.
The view and sound of the ocean made me feel like I was on a ship; it is so lovely! I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet stay away from it all. The house was clean, had ample cooking supplies, and stayed cool from the cross-breezes and fans througout.
It was amazing. Repaired my nervous system! The snorkeling was incredible as well as right there! The stars at night with the crashing of the waves. Spiritual! OMG I can't wait to come back.
We had a wonderful stay. We did experience some electrical issues which caused the hot water and the tv in the guest room to stop working a few times. We notified the manager and it was addressed immediately. The first 2 days out of 7 we did not have hot water off and on but by the end of day 2, the electrician had fixed the problem. After that we had no issues and the manager made sure to check up on us a couple of days later. The house was just as described and in a very quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed the ocean views and the sound of the waves while we slept.
If you’re looking to visit the Big Island and stay away from the crowds then this is the place for you. We took the advise from many of the people who stayed here before us and brought our food for the duration of our visit but there are grocery stores in both direction on Hwy 11 so you can alway pick up items if you need to. The neighborhood is quiet and the waves crashing on the rocks right below the deck were awesome. The kitchen had everything that we needed and the home was clean and had everything we needed to enjoy ourselves. The check in process was easy and we never had a need to contact the property manager or the owner. We’ll be back to enjoy this place again.
This home was perfect for my husband and I for our honeymoon. The views are gorgeous and every sunset is breathtaking! Great spot for fishing as well! The home had everything we needed for when we cooked. Washer and dryer in the home helped a lot! They have scuba gear for you to use, definitely took advantage of that! The bed was comfy and clean. We stayed here for 8 wonderful nights, we even brought our own small telescope to watch the sky since you can see every star possible! Also you’re welcomed by geckos every day, it was so neat!
You know the place is great when her husband texts the kids and says the following: Mom picked a beautiful spot for our last 7 days! We can walk 100 yards to snorkel, and the VRBO is almost unbelievable. Aloha!!!
The Koni Kai is a nice place to enjoy the ocean and the waves the waves were huge while we were here the house is nice and it is very peaceful here we loved our stay
Our stay was so incredibly peaceful and relaxing. The neighborhood is very quiet and perfect for walking any time of day taking in the breathtaking views of the ocean. No whale sightings but the dolphins sure did put on a show as we watched from the expansive deck. The bed was SO comfortable and kitchen had everything we needed.
