About the property

Beautiful 2 Bedroom/2 Bathroom Oceantfront Property

Welcome to Koni Kai, Hawaiian translation: Passionate Sea. Koni Kai is a beautifully designed, very comfortable oceanfront home. Considerable time and effort has been spent to ensure Koni Kai is equipped with everything one might want/need while on vacation.

Koni Kai is perched on an ancient lava flow on the South Kona coast in Milolii, the oldest fishing village in Hawaii. If you are looking for nightlife (other than some of the best constellation viewing on the planet), then this is probably not the place for you. If, however, you are seeking a luxurious personal refuge that promotes relaxation and rejuvenation, then you have found your perfect vacation destination at Koni Kai. Located 30 miles south of Kailua-Kona and just an hour’s drive from Volcano National Park, Koni Kai provides the perfect home base to lounge all day on the 1000 square foot sundeck, explore nearby black and green sand beaches, experience the dramatically different eco-systems in the rainforests near Hilo, or hike the volcano to search for petroglyphs and watch active red lava flow into the ocean. Regardless of how you choose to spend your days, you will be welcomed back to Koni Kai with some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world, the perfect backdrop for the dramatically rugged landscape.

In the winter months (approximately November thru March), you will be able to sit on the sundeck and watch Humpback whales migrate, spinner dolphins perform and the occasional green sea turtle swim up to say hello. Some of the best snorkeling, diving and fishing can be found directly in front of the house due to a coral reef that spans the north side of the bay.

While we would hope the majority of your vacation is spent “un-plugged” from the chaos of the rest of the world, we understand there will be occasions when you need to check-in, so complimentary Wi-Fi internet and high-definition satellite television are provided. A brand-new, state of the art water filtration system, to include UV light, has been installed. The kitchen includes a Wolf gas range, Kenmore oven and microwave, Bosch dishwasher and every small appliance we could think of. There is also a laundry area with a brand new Whirlpool Duet hi-efficiency washer and dryer.

Koni Kai welcomes you with much Aloha, now and for all your future Hawaii visits. Please contact us with any questions you may have – we look forward to making your stay as pleasant and memorable as possible.

What an ideal place to go to relax, unwind and recharge your internal battery!

Koni Kai, Oceanfront rental, was just what the DR ordered. We had such a fun drive down to the house. The house is beautiful and the views took our breathe away. Every evening we would sit on the huge back lanai and gaze up at the stars. I never knew there were so many - it seemed as if you could reach out and touch them. It was truly an experience I will never forget. The sound of the waves rolling in was a very relaxing way to fall asleep every night and a beautiful way to wake up every morning.

I am very glad the owner recommended stocking up on groceries right after we arrived from the airport. There is a Costco, Safeway, Walmart and others close to the Kona airport - we were really glad we did that, it gave us a chance to enjoy our drive down to the house, unpack and then just start relaxing! The owners were very thoughtful on items that you may want to use while on vacation, we were very very happy with all the extras they had available for our use. The beds were extremely comfortable, kitchen had lots of items that we had forgot to get at the store ( thank you :), the large screen TV with Netflix, cable etc. allowed us to watch a couple movies that we had been talking about seeing, the deck overlooking the water was very large, and the path down to the rocks edge was a perfect place to drop in a couple fishing poles to have some fun.

Because we wanted to explore the Big Island by day, we rented a Jeep ( which we would recommend). The home was perfectly located for what we were looking for, we wanted a place that was not overly populated, on the water, but not so secluded that we couldn't drive to all the places on our list that we wanted to explore. It seemed like we were located within a couple hours or less of all of our must sees ( The Big Island is Huge, I've heard you could fit all the other Hawaiian islands on top of the Big Island and still have more land ). We saw the green sand beach, the black sand beach, the active Volcano, City of Refuge, Punaluu Bakery, the most Southern Point of the USA, the Painted Church, drank lots of 100% Kona and Kau coffee, visited lots of Botanical gardens, Big Island Candy company, Hilo town, Kona town, and much more. Every afternoon returning to this wonderful home to relax, star gaze while listening to the waves roll in and hit the rocks below.

We would HIGHLY recommend everyone stay here while visiting the Big Island. It is now our go to place to stay for our future Big Island trips!

The entire experience was a great one!! Watching the ocean, swimming and snorkeling right off the little swimming area near the house. Don't be overly intimidated by the spot, many of the local people swim there, even little kids!!

This was such a peaceful experience for us. Just terrific and we will be back!!!!

Loved it!!!

Just spent 10 nights at this property and I t was exactly as advertised! Very secluded & quiet. We were treated to a few fantastic whale shows & the starry nights were wonderful! The house is very well equipped with everything you would want (well stocked kitchen & even a gas BBQ!). Sarah and Preston were quick to answer the few questions we had. We highly recommend this VRBO!
