About Nila Johnson

My parents built The Mountain House themselves, working on the house for about 4 years. A lot of love and creativity went into the house. Many in my family had at least a small part in building it. It was intended to be a peaceful, comfortable vacation home for our family to use. I believe that is exactly how it turned out!

Nila Johnson purchased this House in 2008

Why Nila Johnson chose Hot Springs

My parents have always loved the mountains. They love the beauty and grandeur of the fall foliage. They love the sounds of the running creek. But they don't love the hustle and bustle of too many people, or the noise of too much traffic! So, the quaint little town of Hot Springs seemed a perfect spot for them to build a vacation home!

What makes this House unique

This spot is the best of both worlds. You are off the beaten track and secluded in peaceful tranquility, but you can travel a short distance to some great attractions and activities!

                                          A Vacation We'll Always Remember

                                          Milton R.Lakeland, Florida

My family and I have never seen snow. When we reached the cabin, it was a Winter Wonderland. I couldn't have asked for anything better. My kids, nieces and nephews were so excited to finally see snow. From snowball fights to ice build up on the waterfall to building a campfire at night. The Cabin was more that we expected to be. It was beautiful inside and out and everything was supply that we needed. We had so much fun that we did not want to leave. The view every morning was astonishing. The owners were there any moment we needed them either through phone or through email. Can wait to book our next vacation.... Thank you so much for this wonderful experience.

                                          Thank you,

                                          Milton Rivera

                                          Awesome!

this is the 2nd fall in a row our merry band of hikers went to Hot Springs to hike on the AT. The place is awesome! We actually hiked to and from house a couple of days. House very spacious, comfortable, all the comforts of home! Nila and Kym are the best! Highly reccommend!

A beautiful place to get away from it all

                                          Jennie B.

The house is absolutely gorgeous and very isolated. Once you find your way up the very steep path, a beautiful home with a waterfall awaits. The house was very spacious and it was great with a large group to be able to have time together and apart. We did have a few problems with bugs and the AC wasn't working but we were not in the house much so it wasn't a huge problem. The owner was very responsive. Just be warned that there is no internet and little cell reception so you are definitely able to disconnect!

                                          Owner's Response:

                                          Jennie,

Thank you for staying at our Mountain House and thank you for your review. I was not aware of the issues you mentioned so I appreciate your bringing them to my attention. These issues are being addressed now so that hopefully there won't be any more problems with them in the future!

                                          Nila Johnson

Update: We treated the house and have not seen any bugs at all. ( I think a previous guest may have brought a pet without our knowledge and Jennie had seen a flea.) Anyway, there are no bugs! The AC just needed some adjustment. All is well!

House was great and Hot Springs is a cool little town.

House was great. Lots of room. Kim the caretaker did a great job of responding to our needs. Hot Springs is a great little town. Enjoyed it.

The family greatly enjoy the house.

The family greatly enjoy the house. The great room and kitchen area was prefect. The long driveway made the place very quiet and secluded. We plan to be back. Nice water fall at the house.

Had Awesome time in Hot Springs NC!

Stay was awesome! Mountains amazing! and we loved the house! (i thought the big room and kitchen were even nicer than photos). Kym is a gem, she was great, lending us her maps of the area to illustrate some of the local trails! Some did more local stuff and a few of us did 56 miles on the AT (Spivey Gap to Hot Springs!). Excellent hiking!

The location was great (town close, but not in town), loved the porch (could spend hours on it)! We had 9 adults, couples and singles. Everyone had plenty of space... Excellent!

Would definitely stay here again if plans work-out!
