The house is on a Cul de sac, and sits on a slight knoll with a large front yard dominated by shrubbery. The rear of the property is your usual sandy mixture Cape lawn - ideal for playing or simply lying out in the shade of the many locust trees, which also appear to be a sanctuary for birds and other wildlife.
We are within easy reach of Fort Hill, a popular spot for an ocean sunrise and Rock Harbour for its famous sunsets. The bike trail, which meanders through much of the Cape, can be accessed .07 miles from the house and it will take you right through to Coast Guard Beach and all the way to Marconi Beach or, in the opposite direction, to Orleans, Brewster and Dennis - a pleasurable and safe way of travel. We have 2 first class bikes there for you to use but you need to bring your own helmets.
The house is situated so that alternate roads can be used to avoid the highly traveled Route 6.
rental period: The calendar may read otherwise but the rental periods are normally Saturday to Saturday unless other arrangements have been made. It will be priced accordingly. Check-in time is 3.00pm and check-out time is 12:00 noon.The time is crucial for the cleaners. It's so hard to find reliable people who maintain the highest standards. So please abide by the check- out time.
I'm sorry to say pets will have to have other arrangements made for them.There are various kennels that can make your animals comfortable and are within easy reach. Other guests must and should be considered.
We're also sorry to say that there is no smoking inside. There is an ashtray on the deck for your use, outside only. Hopefully you can understand our position, thanks.
We started to recycle afew years ago year to do our share. It went very well and we set the cellar up with everything you need to sort things out. You just sort and stack and we take everything out in the fall. Your childrens' grandchildren will thank you!
The Cape can be even more charming in the late summer and early fall, as most of the tourists have left. This is an ideal time to experience the true beauty of what Cape Cod really has to offer.
For those few who want to take the time to drive down and view the house, we encourage you to do so. Arrangements can be made for you. Just let me know. It is always good to actually see first hand the house you're going to rent. So many people don't and as a result are disappointed.
Choosing a holiday house doesn't have to be a hassle. Just look for good value. It pays off in spades.
I apologize for the necessity of the security deposit but unfortunately it's impossible to work around it. Again, it's not deposited, but held until the house is cleared and then mailed back within a few days.
We offer a check out time of 12:00 noon, which will give you plenty of time to pack up and depart.
It's nice to be a few steps from the ocean but unfortunately not every house is. There are advantages to being ten minutes away. One is to see the children get to fever pitch on the the ride to the beach and I'm sure you can guess the other!
Growing up, and spending Summer vacations on the Cape made it so natural to purchase the house there. We look forward to opening the house in May and regret the task of closing it in November. We find it surprising that so many families opt for the high season in the summer while the off season offers people a chance to enjoy the tranquility and solitude of an uninterrupted beach stroll and the pleasures of autumn.
I grew up near Boston, went to college there, and upon earning my degree I found myself reporting to the Boston Army Base for induction. Yes, America used to draft - not a pleasant time to come of age. Luckily I got orders for Europe when many of my countrymen weren't as fortunate.
Little did I know how it would change my life forever. Having been taken in by the country I found myself being drawn back a few years later. It was in Heidelberg, the medieval home of Germany's oldest university, and the setting for the Student Prince is where I met my wife. The memories of our first few years play out like a fairy tale. A more romantic setting could not be imagined. It would be hard not to be taken in by its Old World charm. Even today, many years later, we still think fondly of our younger days there.
Wanting to keep our ties with Boston we bought Brenda Lane, for it was practical at the time and the perfect house for us. Our plan was to change just about everything over the upcoming years and that was accomplished a while ago. The things remaining from the early days are a classic Cape couch from the forties and a dining room set that fits in beautifully. In renovating the bathrooms we elliminated the bath tubs to avoid any future slips. As it turned out it was the right house then and is an even better one now.
We hope families driving a 150 miles enjoy our house as much as we do traveling 3500.

Since it's the dream of every kid from Boston to one day own a home on Cape Cod it came natural to seek out one there.
This was the third house we looked at and we knew from the get- go it was the one. Sitting up on the knoll with a huge expanse of land, twice as much as any other house on the street (only eight), the cathedral ceiling opening up the whole downstairs - it just seemed right.
We love working in the garden in the spring, whipping everything into shape. It seems with each passing year it takes longer and longer. What used to take three days now takes six (I'm down to half days) but it is still fun.If it weren't for Helga I'd still be at it when the first guests arrived.
There aren't many places like Cape Cod in the fall. It's breath taking. We would never think of coming in the high season. We'll leave that to families who can not come at any other time and who can brave the crowds and everything that goes with it. My only regret about the house is that we didn't buy it fifteen years earlier.
There is much to be said of the Lower Cape. To experience it, it will forever draw you back. It's almost like having all of the wonders of nature to yourself no matter how many others you're sharing it with.
.As far as the house goes there is nothing special or unique about it. It's like thousands of other Cape houses built in the late Eighties, except this one belongs to us. The house and what's in it reflect our taste and our lifestyle and we hope that our visitors will feel as comfortable there as we do.
It's too bad families today can't find the time to have the experience of that special day of hunting for their perfect summer house. If I had to choose my favorite childhood memory that would top the list, and I thank my parents for making those summers memorable. Maybe we can provide a few for your family.

This was our first year renting the house on Brenda Lane and it was just what we were hoping for. A clean, updated, comfortable house with lots of really nice extra touches. This house is set in a quiet area that is convenient to the major roads and bike trail as well as many beautiful beaches. Jay and Helga were very responsive and friendly to deal with. They made sure that everything was perfect for a terrific, relaxing week.
We returned for our annual summer vacation in Eastham and to our favorite home away from home - Brenda Lane. Each year, we talk about it so often during the intervening months that our four year old knows the address of the Mahoney's house, but not our own in Boston! As others have stated (as have I) in prior reviews, the house is comfortable, quiet, well appointed, neat and clean. The location is ideal - an easy cruise to the bike path and a close drive to some of the most breathtaking beaches in the country (I highly recommend getting a seasonal beach pass to the National Seashore beaches!). The outside deck, outdoor shower, and lovely yard, offering both shade and sun, are perfect for leisurely mornings and sunset evenings. All three bedrooms are spacious and air conditioned. The fireplace is a wonderful feature when the evenings are cool, and the feel of the house is open and airy. That said, what really makes Brenda Lane so special are Jay and Helga. They never fail to make our stay feel personalized and special - a true feat, especially considering their international location. We are already looking forward to next year and another wonderful stay on Brenda Lane!

Jay and Helga have always provided excellent customer service and updates are on going. They have a spacious, clean home with all the amenities without being ostentatious. It sits in a quiet neighborhood with a large, well landscaped private yard offering both sunshine and shade. A wide array of wild birds are present and provide tranquil viewing. The neighborhood is ideal for walking.
Jay has posted directions for "back road" traveling which will keep you off busy Rt 6. Beaches, bike trails, restaurants and amazing wild life preserves are close by.
The home is comfortable and neat. The three bedrooms offer AC units if you need them. Both bathrooms have been recently been updated and are immaculate. There is a comfortable, oversized outside shower. The basement is stocked with 2 bicycles, beach chairs and an excellent washer and dryer.
Our family has great affection for the Cape and have rented homes for over 40 years. We will stay with 9 Brenda Lane as long as we can.
This was our second time staying at Jay & Helga's Cape Cod home. It is a great house and we couldn't wait to return. The house is very clean, comfortable and has everything that you can possibly need for vacation. The house is in a great location, close enough but far enough away. It is so quiet which is greatly appreciated. We spent many of our days driving in the dunes up at Race Point area. It is spectacular and one can truly get lost in the beauty of nature. We liked to go to First Encounter Beach after dinner to watch the sunset and walk on the sandbars at low tide. Every evening is then capped with our traditional card games at the dining room table. The bedrooms have comfortable beds and air conditioning for any hot and/or humid nights. Looking forward to our summer vacation next year. Thank you Jay & Helga!
This was our second year staying on Brenda Lane. This year, we were lucky enough to stay for two weeks. The experience did not disappoint! Jay and Helga are the perfect hosts, and the house was as comfortable as we remembered. The location is wonderful - offering easy access to the bike path, Coast Guard beach, Arnold's and the Superette - while providing plenty of space for the whole family and lots of peace, quiet and privacy. Jay makes the rental process a breeze. He is easily reachable by email and always quick to respond to any inquiry. The Mahoney's take pride in their home and give attention to every detail, making the holiday stay feel special. The kitchen is very well appointed and has everything you could possibly need and then some. The living room and dining area provide plenty of space for the whole family (the fireplace is a wonderful bonus during cooler evenings). The back deck, yard, and outdoor shower are well cared for and provide a nice space for spending time outside. The bedrooms are nicely sized and the two baths were just recently renovated, making for a very comfortable stay for all guests. Returning to Brenda Lane has become something our family looks forward to every year. I cannot wait for next summer's trip, and I cannot recommend it highly enough!
I echo all of the previous reviews. Jay made everything very easy - from deposit through deposit return. We
could not have found a better spot. In the private yard on a quiet cul-de-sac we enjoyed bbqs, Frisbee, bocci, football, catch, and more. Everything is ALREADY there: beach chairs, beach umbrellas, boogie boards, bicycles,
Frisbee, barbecue grill and full fuel tank! We felt immediately comfortable as the house is so clean and well-maintained. It is close to many beaches, convenient to a large grocery store in Orleans, and very close to the Cape Cod bike path. During this very warm week the room AC made it very comfortable for sleeping. For a
group of 6 (parents, kids, grandparents, friends) I can not imagine that you will find a better place to rent.

The town of Eastham is perfectly located on the Lower Cape for you to enjoy both the bayside and National Seashore beaches. Cape Cod is attractive throughout the year because of its uniqueness. However, if you are in search of tranquillity and solitude September and October are ideal months to visit. Whether it 's the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Provincetown, the raw beauty of Truro, the art galleries of Wellfleet, the beach walks of Orleans and Eastham or the exquisite charm of Chatham the Lower Cape is something to be experienced more than once in your lifetime.

Golf: The area is rich with golfing opportunities and, with the exception of weekends, Tee-Times are easily available. For a unique golf experience we recommend the links course in Truro, the oldest of its kind in the USA.
Those who wish to obtain an Eastham beach pass can save money. Normally, day parking is $15.00. A weekly pass is $60.00. Two weeks is about $90.00. You can check with the Town Hall (508-240 5974). It's certainly worth a call. They send the pass out to you. It can all be done online. As far as the National Seashore goes I think they also start charging on June 28th through Labor Day. That you're going to have to look into. The Eastham beach passes only apply to the bayside beaches.
