About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5

Best to hear it from someone who has stayed here:

"What a spectacular location! The location is just steps from the water and boasts a full wall of floor to ceiling windows that look out onto the porch and over the water. The cottage is well appointed and comfortable. There was plenty of room for our family of 4-more can be accommodated if necessary. The property is adjacent to a national park where you can find the original fog alarm house, which is now home to a visitor information/ interpretive centre. If you, like me, are a seeker of local information and history, you will find yourself taking the short walk up to the fog alarm building daily. If you have any interest at all in spending your days watching seals and otters frolic, exploring tide pools, hiking, crabbing, sighting orcas literally meters away, and basking in phenomenal sunsets on the back porch-You've found the right place! We had no trouble finding the property and the owners were either on hand or reachable by phone. Our every need was attended to promptly. Bear in mind, this is a small island with few full time residents. They have a well-stocked store and a couple of eateries. My only advice would be to stock up on some staples food-wise before you get on the ferry as there were a couple of times that the general was out of the odd thing. Having said that, it is fun to shop locally and plan your meals on the fly, depending on what looks good at the store that day. Of course, supporting the local economy is important too. There are a number of local artist and craftspeople that bear checking out. I got the most fabulous wrap at Weaving by Theresa-the perfect garment to cozy up in and watch the sunset with a big glass of wine. What a magical holiday!"

This updated 2 bedroom pan abode Cottage is as close to the water edge as you can get! The large living room looks over to Tumbo Island, with the light of Vancouver in the distance. A queen bed is in one bedroom, and twin bunks and a single in the second. There is a full bathroom and kitchen with an eating space that spotlights the sandy beach. A haven for whale watchers and nature enthusiasts. Low bank ocean front with two sandy beaches and tidal pools for hours of entertainment and great swimming. Next to East Point Park where orcas travel on a regular bases. You could reach out and touch one, but we advise you use your camera instead! Watch the sea lions, seals and dolphins frolic in the ocean as you relax on the front lawn. Be amazed by the bald eagles diving for their dinner, and be prepared to be startled by a deer nibbling the tree outside the bedroom window. Your stay also gives you access to 44 acres of private hiking trails for your dog to enjoy off leash walks. The cottage is fully equipped with linens and towels, full kitchen and outdoor shared fireplace. You do not need a 4 wheel drive to reach our retreat as the roads are well paved and great for biking. Bring your boat, kayak, or canoe and launch it at our private boat ramp.

A Magic Setting

  • 5 of 5

Cottage 4 is located a few feet from the water's edge, with protected Tumbo island less than a mile off shore, and Saturna's East Point jutting out to the right. We were drawn to East Point several times a day, and each visit was unique for its character, mood, and visuals. Always on the lookout for Orca, we discovered an incredibly unique environment without their presence.

Cottage 4 is very comfortable, with everything a visitor needs in the kitchen, living, and sleeping rooms. Daylight streams through the floor to ceiling living room windows, sunlight through the bedroom skylights had us wondering if we had left the lights on, and the dining area was in constant use for island planning or gazing to the Salish Sea.

Saturna is well worth exploring from end to end, point to point, with unique views and environments. Saturna General Store is a hub of local activity, and Wild Thyme Coffee offers friendship to all who visit.

In short, don't hesitate to visit. This is a unique setting and stay in the Pacific Northwest.

Silence... a true retreat

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely recommend this place. It was so incredibly quiet (we saw more seals than people!). Perhaps it was because of the time of year. The almost floor to ceiling windows, the blue of the ocean, the silence and the warmth of the cabin meant a lot to us. We hope to be back.

Beautiful and relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

East Point Ocean Cottages is situated in THE most beautiful spot in the Canadian Gulf Islands. We have enjoyed coming to this site for 20 years. The cottage is very simple but clean and comfortably maintained; nothing fancy but just perfect for enjoying this beautiful location. We spend endless time, whale watching, walking to the tip of East Point which is just steps away,

reading, kayaking and bicycling the islands roads. The cottages are dog friendly and so our dogs have always come along and totally love the beaches and meadows. This is the perfect place to slow down, decompress from urban life and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Loved it, but be warned of mice in the cabin eating your food

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time with our family of four. Its a perfect place for a family to have a holiday; our children were 2 and 4 and had a blast. The wildlife is all around you, as we saw the Orca whales three times in a week, as well as countless deer in our daily hikes/walks around East Point and the surrounding area. The cabin itself is basic and clean and served it's purpose well. The only thing I'd warn others about is the mice in the cabin. I understand that this place is literally in nature and it is inevitable but I'd recommend bringing a large tupperware bin WITH A LID that closes properly, otherwise the mice will get into your "pantry" food. We learned the first night to make sure we had everything in it, as we lost a bag of food. I think it would be nice to be warned of this before going, otherwise you'll loose all your food.

Other then that, this place is like another world. We loved it!

Owner's Response: Hi Christine - those mice have sure been a problem this year! Just when you think you have all the holes blocked, in the come ... Raeanne and Andre went out there after you left and did another thorough check, hopefully blocking all entry for future mice. So far the taps have stayed empty. So glad you and your family enjoyed your stay, despite the extra furry visitors.

Elemental Paradise, Austere Beauty Neighbouring East Point Park

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were married and chose to tour through the Gulf Islands for our honeymoon. Of the 12 nights we toured the Gulf Islands, we stayed 5 nights on Saturna in Cottages 3 and 4.

One Cottage had a newer, roomier interior -- with the cutest kitchen nook at corner windows where you can eat breakfast, watch orcas, porpoises, otters, and blue herons -- and the other was the Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage, which was very quaint. We preferred the first one, but our experience in both was memorably excellent.

We LOVED staying here, meters from the sea in both cottages (as they neighbour each other). Truly, a spectacular experience.

We cycled from Oak Bay in Victoria to Saturna's East Point. As I was hauling a 100-plus-pound trailer attached to my bike, I won't pretend that some of the hills on Saturna didn't conquer me. However, vehicle traffic is minimal so I had the ease to pedal and sweat when I needed to, and ocean-side views were a constant. The air CHANGED as we were under the arches of the forest, greener, fresher. When we arrived at these cottages, I said, "Totally worth it!"

The cottages have everything you might need. We brought our small dog with us and she loved it too, particularly our walks along the shoreline where she could sniff and eat mysterious dead things at random, and up near the lighthouse among the golden grasses. We didn't let her run free too much as we didn't want her to interfere with a baby seal, or get picked up by a bald eagle (plenty of them). We seldom saw anyone from the neighbouring cottages, so our experience was as private as we wanted it to be. Many many acres of parkland to explore via trails with our dog proved a welcome daily trek.

Raeanne House, who manages the cottages, was tremendously generous with ensuring we had what we needed, providing guidance and tips for our adventuring, preventing me from doing an upmountain cycle with my bike that would have killed me, and gave us a gift of the ripest, most flavourful strawberries. She was wonderful.

We heartily recommend Saturna Island and we will happily stay at these cottages again, perhaps trying those we haven't tried yet. This was a top-shelf experience for us newlyweds, romantic, breath-catching, awe-some. I woke many mornings at 4:30 a.m. to write at the table as the sun crested the seas and spilled its lackadaisical light. Saturna is very special, and I hope it remains so as it receives more tourist attention in the years to come.

We're grateful.

Saturna Island is the Southernmost of the Gulf Islands. Its small population and remote location make it ideal for vacationers looking for a real get-away from the daily grind.

Much of Saturna falls within the Parks Canada Gulf Islands National Park Reserve and provides hiking, whale watching, biking and other opportunities to re-connect with the spectacular nature of the Gulf Islands.
