This is not a house, but a vacation. Enjoy 22 private acres with beach waterfront and spectacular views. This location is convenient for exploring both the upper and lower keys.
The breezy, open, wooden, post and beam house features a 19 foot x 44 foot great room with glass sliding doors on all sides, and a 22 foot high cathedral ceiling. This room includes a complete kitchen and dining and living areas. At each end of the living area, there are two master bedrooms in their own separate buildings. Each has a large bath and dressing area, a queen-size bed, a sitting area, and balcony.
There is also a third bedroom with two twin beds and a bathroom. The 22 acres afford total privacy. The property is surrounded by hundreds of acres of open space both adjacent to the property and on the next keys across the cove. 1500 feet of natural shoreline curve around two sides of the house. Half of the home's view is out over the open gulf and half of the view is into a natural deep water cove with only this house on it's shoreline. There is a private sandy beach.
In the cove, there is a pier with a swim platform on which to keep a boat and from which to swim and snorkel. Behind the house is a private stone saltwater quarry for swimming. It is 50 yards wide by 200 yards long, by 10 feet deep. The house includes kayaks for exploring the adjacent shoreline. All sizes of outboard motorboats are available from rental shops nearby. There is a caretaker living on the property in case you have any problems. The beautiful location on the uninhabited cove makes this a delightful place for part of a family to stay while the rest fish, dive, or sightsee. Each evening every room faces a spectacular sunset.
Although the house is large, we limit the occupancy to six people including children.
Egret Cove is designed not to have air conditioning. It depends on screens, ceiling fans, and the prevailing breeze. This can be a matter of opinion in the summer. We do not recommend it for more than 4 or mabe 6 outdoors type people in the summer.

This glass house is a magnificent place to stay to explore the Keys. One can wake up and drink coffee with water views all around. Take the kayaks and canoe and explore what we have dubbed Draper Bay to get up close to the tall white egrets and magnicent mangroves. Or stroll through the private acreage to take a swim in the saltwater of the quarry. One can also charter a motorboat as we did that you can tie up to the dock after exploring the gorgeous undersea world of Sombrero Reef. We also circumnavigated Marathon Key from the Atlantic Ocean back into the Gulf. Great restaurants are to be found nearby but the best place to eat was in this home watching the breathtaking sunsets with fresh grilled fish, veggies and key lime pie. A day trip to Key West is fun if one has never seen the Hemingway House or Truman's "White House" or experienced the street performers on Mallory Square before the sunset. The best part of the day is returning to this home which is like a private resort. Thanks also to the caretaker, Adahlia, who was so welcoming and but a phone call away for any questions. We have already recommended this house to our friends and relatives.
Our family of 9 spent a delightful week at Egret Cove. What a perfect location! So much better than a crowded locale squeezed by neighbors. Here we felt alone in the world! The cove was amazing for it's wildlife. Off the dock and in kayaks and a canoe we saw rays, dolphins, iguana, jelly fish, horseshoe crabs, a black racer, egrets, pelicans, and fish of all sizes! Caught some beauties in the back pond which we cooked on the grille. The place was immaculate, the bedrooms more than comfortable, and the great-room the ideal lounging spot with water and garden vistas. Marathon is close for shopping and an afternoon in Key West was easy to manage. We took in both a swim with the dolphins and a helicopter ride over Egret Cove with the rest of our family waving from the dock! A memorable vacation in an ideal setting!
my family had such a wonderful time at egret cove! so many things to do and see! the property was amazing lots of wildlife lizards snakes birds fish ! we enjoyed the sunsets and sunrises! the kids loved taking the kayaks out on the water. we caught lots of fish , barracuda sting rays even caught a few sharks!! love the remote location felt like we were on our very own private island! in the evenings we would get our flashlights and walk in the water. lots of fish everywhere!! we will be coming back next year! thanks for sharing your home with us! it truly is paradise!!! thank you !
