We absolutely loved our stay in Slaughter Beach. This little attic apartment had plenty of room to relax, cook, and play board games, even with the shorter ceiling height. The place has been updated and cleaned to address previous reviews’ issues and we were excited to find the kitchen had more utensils and gadgets than we expected. The futon and chair-bed are not the best sleeping option, so bring an air mattress back-up if you have it. Despite the inability to see the beach from the place, you are just steps away from the ocean and you can hear it too! This beach isn’t crowded at all by humans - it’s all residential, but in May it is crowded by horseshoe crabs. Witnessing their spawning was incredible and we learned to "just flip over" the stranded crabs that had been flipped on their backs. I wouldn’t call this a swimming beach, but it was perfect for walks with our dogs. We checked out Prime Hook National Wildlife refuge (keep an eye out for the Indigo buntings but also the nefarious ticks) as well as biked the greenway trails starting in Cape Henlopen National Park (keep biking past the trail to see the Rehoboth boardwalk). The Parking and laundry are super convenient. Come prepared with food or the understanding that you’ll need to travel 15-20 mins by car to get provisions. We fell in love with the downtown of Lewes nearby, highly recommend the chai lattes at the bakery and checking out the used book store/underground record store. We have been made fans of the beach with the terrifying name and hope we can visit again soon.
