The kitchen/living room area is situated on the second floor with picture-frame windows that extend over the entire front of the house. Two bedrooms, one bathroom, the laundry area and garage are situated on the ground level. The loft bedroom, which overlooks the second floor, and includes its own bathroom, is accessed from the second floor via a spiral staircase. Lake area summer recreation activities include: hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing (a virtual fisherman paradise), swimming, skiing, jet-skiing, and just about any kind of boating (e.g., power boating, canoeing, sailing, rafting).
Note: Two day minimum**. Check-in is after 4:00pm. Check-out is before 10:00am. Linens provided (all sheets), plus bath/shower towels, wash rags, kitchen towels, toilet paper). Bass Lake has been a popular vacation destination for nearly 100 years. Construction of a hydroelectric dam at the southern end of Crane Valley across the North Fork of Willow Creek began in 1899. The lake reached its current level in 1909 with the completion of the current earth-filed dam. It is currently operated by Pacific Gas and Electric Company. At an elevation of 3,500 feet, Bass Lake gets some winter snow with mild spring and fall temperatures. Area activities include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, sightseeing, and visits to Yosemite National Park. In addition to recreation, the water is used to generate electricity and to irrigate the San Juaquin Valley's rich farmland. The lake normally fills in late spring and is lowered in the fall for flood control purposes which makes room for the run-off from winter rains and the following spring snow-melt.
Bass Lake has been the backdrop for many TV commercials and motion pictures including the Academy Award winning "Leave her to Heaven" (1945), "The Deerslayer" (1957), "The Great Outdoors" (1988), "Meatballs 4" (1992), and most recently, "Mouse Hunt" (1997).

Great time at Bass Lake. This cabin is close to the marina, and the dock space for the jet skis was just the thing to make this great.
House was as advertised and the owner was excellent about answering questions during our stay.
Would definitely stay here again.

Kelly was a conscientious guest. Her party followed the house rules and communicated with me well.
Great property located at the end of the lake. First time in 25 years of coming to Bass Lake that we stayed down here, and we loved it. Quiet, close to private launch, which was fantastic, and easy access. The cabin was perfect for our family and the host was very detailed about everything so it made it supper easy.

Hi David. Thanks do much for the nice review! I’m glad you had a good time. Come back again.
We loved how close the house was to the lake and having the boat slip was perfect. No hassles with getting in and out with the boat. The house was in a nice neighborhood and had everything we needed.
This is our second time staying at the Greene’s cabin. The house is in a great location at Marina View with a private dock and boat slip. The 3 level house is clean and well appointed with ample parking. The owners are always very responsive to any questions or issues. We are definite return guests! Had a great week!

Thanks for coming back Taren! We hope you had a good time. Better the second time?
The property was easy to find. Lots of great helpful information from the owners. It is comfortable and cozy. Love the view, especially upstairs from the loft bedroom! Figured out how to keep the place cool while we were out hiking using the outside blinds. Deck was a lovely place to spend time. Conveniently located to hiking and other activities.

Hi Debby. Thanks for the nice review! We look forward to you next year?
Everything is Easily readable labeled. Explanation of everything was sent by message before hand. Made the entrance and feeling like home, was a breeze. Bass lake was great, couple blocks away, id drive it. Walked the neighborhood everyday with the dogs, nice quiet, woodsy. We had max size group that made trash kind of loaded. Parking is a squeeze with two full size trucks and jetskis on one. Made it happen! Thanks for a great place.

Anthony and co were fine guests. Left the property tidy and followed all rules and such. We look forward to having them again.
Great place to hang out and connect for a family ( or two). Would be very comfortable for two families of your. Bunk room made for kids to have their special place. Comfy beds and nice kitchen. I imagine a great stay in the summer when traveling with a boat we used as a winter base for a day trip to Yosemite and just hanging out. Closets full of board games and movie we enjoyed. Pro tip: bring as much of the food you intend to use as possible. North fork store expensive and not nice. Store in bass lake nicer but kind of place you pick up milk, eggs, and cold beer and not much more. Nice lake Marina a little walk away.

Disappointing
The place looks as if it has not been touched since 1974.
It's very dirty, the bathroom sinks still had toothpaste splattered on the tile.
Very very disappointing.

We maintain our property the best we can. We feel it is great value for the price we charge. Sure, if you are expecting granite counters, gold fixtures, brand new appliances, etc, then expect to pay much much more. Over the past few years we've replaced all mattresses, installed laminent flooring on the main level, purchased a new flat screen TV, DirecTV, installed WIFI, electronic bolt on entry door, new drapes, new outside chairs.... We try to keep our costs down so we can keep our rates down. We've had rave reviews over the last 30 years of renting. This is one of the VERY FEW poor reviews we've ever had. We are new to VRBO, and hope in the future we have guests with better attitudes.
January 2018 UPDATE:
We've remodeled the kitchen: new stainless appliances, sink, granite counters. All new flat screen TVs in each bedroom (but bunk room) with streaming Blueray players. Living room has DirecTV capability. New flooring in all bathrooms, and laundry room/entry.
Unfortunately, the house next door was under construction and we woke up to banging each morning. Would have been nice to know ahead of time. Boat slip was very convenient but a little further than described and across a highway. The cabin is a bit dated. The kitchen could use some updated utensils and cookware. The living room was small for everyone to hang out comfortably (only seating for 3). On the second day, the shower head broke. Owner was responsive to a request to repair and it was fixed the next day.

We regret the nearby house construction noise. We did not realize it would still be under construction this late in the summer. In May it appeared to be almost complete. To get to the boat slip, you do have to cross a road (not really a highway) if you walk to the lake. Most of the time renters just drive down to the marina as they have a lot of gear to take or launch their boat. In 2016 we totally updated the cabin with new furniture, dining table and chairs, new ceiling fans, new SS appliances, SS sink, granite countertops. New bar stools. Three new flat screen TVs with streaming DVD players. Also, new mission style cal king bed downstairs including matching dresser and nightstands. New linoleum throughout in 2017. In 2019 we installed a 2nd A/C unit. Replaced all bedspreads and towels in 2018 and installed a new front door electronic lock. Ok, so a shower head broke. We cannot control previous renters and their actions against the property. Things get battered every year and we do our best to replace and update items. We also try to be very responsive to renters questions and requests during their rental period.
We did have a good time mostly because of the company and other family staying at another location. And the lake was great! But I would have liked information on the following conditions in the VRBO description and pictures (which were misleading).
Two 2 things about the VRBO description - it indicated AC but the units are in the 3rd level loft. It was a hot week, mid 90’s, and the bedrooms on the bottom floor are HOT despite the fans.
Another thing is access to the boat slip on Dock B - two of us are older and one of us uses a cane and the steep incline down to and returning from the boat slip was nearly inaccessible requiring us to have help getting our tent, chairs, cooler etc. in the boat. To accommodate these people we picked up them and our things from Dock D.
The boat slip on Dock B was in good condition with easy water access, just not really handicap accessible.
Please consider updating the VRBO description.
Thanks

Hi Patricia. Thanks for review. We’ll reevaluate our AC situation in light of your comments. We figured the frosty air would seep down to the ground level with both of them on, but I guess it was super hot there during your stay. We’ll consider moving one of them to the main level. We’ll also readdress the photos and verbiage of the web VRBO site, so it is clear as far as dock access goes. Sorry of the inconvenience of these things.
All in all a very nice place to stay. Had trouble with the door code to get in so needed to use the hidden key in combination lockbox. Would have been helpful when trying to get keys out of lockbox that instructions stated that CCW means counter clockwise and CW means clockwise, maybe most people knows this but fortunately one of us did because of his job. Also main level heater takes a long time to come on if it ever does. Heater never came on the morning we left. Downstairs heater was supposed to already be on when we arrived and it wasn't. We never attempted to light this heater because it said to open window when starting and weren't comfortable with that, maybe normal but not for us. The owners are very good with communications either by email or in the home where there are directions and information all through the whole house which was great!

Hi Denise. Thanks for the review. Sorry about the door code situation. It’s worked great for many years. Was the provided code not taking? We’ll chk into the heaters too. Need more info on those to find out what’s wrong. We had all the pilot lights lit and thermos turned to about 65-70 in prep of your arrival.

Quaint Custom Cabin With Great Deck and View of the Lake
This is our second time to Bass Lake and our first visit to the Greene's cabin. This custom cabin is in a quiet neighborhood just off Road 274 on the southeast end of the lake. It was only a short drive to the Pines Resort area and the marina next to Bass Lake Boat Rentals. The cabin itself was very clean and everything was in perfect working order. It's a custom built home built in 1986 so the layout is great for just having 1600 sq ft but I will say that the furnishings are a little dated and the beds were kind of creaky and not comfortable. The living room layout is a bit on the smaller side and there was only one sofa that could seat only three of us. Since we were two families of four we had to use the dining room chairs but it was fine. The kitchen is nicely updated and had everything we needed. We even barbecued one night. It was great! The kids absolutely loved the ping pong table and foosball table in the garage. They did mention that the living room TV was kinda small... not a problem really since we didn't watch much TV during our stay.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and like the location. The Greene's were very responsive when we had questions and were genuinely concerned with making sure our stay was enjoyable. That truly meant a lot and I would definitely rent this cabin again for our next trip back to Bass Lake.

Thank you for the review - we really appreciate your feedback. We will increase our seating capability - we are thinking that guests might like some bean bag seats for comfortable lounging. Also, we will address the beds - time for bed upgrades!
The owners of this property couldn’t have been nicer. From start to finish the owners were very communicative and easy to work with. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and pots and pans. If you have a favorite knife, I recommend bringing it.All in all a pleasant stay.
Great location, amazing view and the host has a good communication and very responsive. We had a great time!

About the host
Hosted by Les, Linda and Lynn Greene
My brother and I grew up in Bass Lake during the late 60's and early 70's. We had since moved away to college, and gotten jobs in SoCal. We wanted to maintain a presence in our home town so we decided to have a rental property "cabin" built. We bought the property in 1985 at the south end of the lake at Marina View. We designed it from scratch and got a contractor to build it. They started in May of 1986 and finished the end of July. We had our first renters immediately in August 1986, and have been renting it ever since. In the spring of 2016 we signed up for VRBO advertising.
What makes this property unique
The property is situated in a quiet subdivision at the south end of the lake, called Marina View.
