Located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of Central California, near Yosemite National Park (30 minutes from the Hwy 41 southern entrance) Bass Lake is a recreation destination for those who enjoy water sports and the types of recreation and relaxation that only a wooded mountain lake can provide. Bass Lake is optimally positioned for a mild climate in the Yellow Pine belt at an elevation of 3500 feet. This custom built recreation home is located on a quiet cul-de-sac in the Marina View subdivision. The rental includes membership in the private Marina View Heights Dock Association, which entitles guests to use the association's launch ramp, boat dock, and water-front recreation facilities. The three story home includes two levels of redwood decking and commands a panoramic view of the distant mountains and foot hills stretching into the San Juaquin Valley.

The 1600 square foot home includes three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a two car garage. The kitchen/living room area is situated on the second floor with picture-frame windows that extend over the entire front of the house. Two bedrooms, one bathroom, the laundry area and two car garage (one car in off-summer months) are situated on the ground level. The loft bedroom, which overlooks the second floor, and includes its own bathroom, is accessed from the second floor via a spiral staircase. Lake area summer recreation activities include: hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing (a virtual fisherman paradise), swimming, skiing, jet-skiing, and just about any kind of boating (e.g., power boating, canoeing, sailing, rafting).

Note: Two day minimum. Check-in is after 4:00pm. Check-out is before 10:00am. Linens provided (all sheets), plus bath/shower towels, wash rags, kitchen towels, toilet paper). Consumables not provided: Kitchen paper towels, hand soap, shampoo, trash bags.

Winter recreation includes cross country and alpine skiing at Badger Pass Ski Area, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling in the high Sierras. Major area attractions include Yosemite National Park, the Sugarpine Rail Road (old steam engine logger), the Ansel Adams and other wilderness areas, and the Golden Chain Highway (Hwy. 49) areas (named after the Gold Rush). A 5 minute drive from Marina View brings you to the charming Pines Village where there are restaurants, shops, a post office, market, bar, gas station, and a full service Marina and boat launch. Additional restaurants, shops and services may be found 10 to 15 minutes from the lake in the surrounding towns of Oakhurst and North Fork.

Bass Lake is located 3 1/2 hours from the San Francisco Bay area, and 5 1/2 hours from the Los Angeles area.

Bass Lake has been a popular vacation destination for nearly 100 years. Construction of a hydroelectric dam at the southern end of Crane Valley across the North Fork of Willow Creek began in 1899. The lake reached its current level in 1909 with the completion of the current earth-filed dam. It is currently operated by Pacific Gas and Electric Company. At an elevation of 3,500 feet, Bass Lake gets some winter snow with mild spring and fall temperatures. Area activities include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, sightseeing, and visits to Yosemite National Park. In addition to recreation, the water is used to generate electricity and to irrigate the San Juaquin Valley's rich farmland. The lake normally fills in late spring and is lowered in the fall for flood control purposes which makes room for the run-off from winter rains and the following spring snow-melt.

Bass Lake has been the backdrop for many TV commercials and motion pictures including the Academy Award winning "Leave her to Heaven" (1945), "The Deerslayer" (1957), "The Great Outdoors" (1988), "Meatballs 4" (1992), and most recently, "Mouse Hunt" (1997).

About Les or Lynn Greene

My brother and I grew up in Bass Lake during the late 60's and early 70's. We had since moved away to college, and gotten jobs in SoCal. We wanted to maintain a presence in our home town so we decided to have a rental property "cabin" built. We bought the property in 1985 at the south end of the lake at Marina View. We designed it from scratch and got a contractor to build it. They started in May of 1986 and finished the end of July. We had our first renters immediately in August 1986, and have been renting it ever since. In the spring of 2016 we signed up for VRBO advertising.

Les or Lynn Greene purchased this cabin in 1986

What makes this cabin unique

The property brought our family together!

  • 4 of 5

It was exciting staying here. My kids got to see and meet their first bear family, mama and her 2 cubs, that said we are super glad we weren't camping in tents! Just take the proper precautions when staying in bear country. Our neighbors left their trash out and there fish catch of the day on the deck that drew the bears in. Bass lake and Yosemite are beautiful and we never had a shortage of things to do. We spent pretty much every evening in the garage having ping pong tournaments!

Thanks for sharing your home!

Quaint Custom Cabin With Great Deck and View of the Lake

  • 4 of 5

This is our second time to Bass Lake and our first visit to the Greene's cabin. This custom cabin is in a quiet neighborhood just off Road 274 on the southeast end of the lake. It was only a short drive to the Pines Resort area and the marina next to Bass Lake Boat Rentals. The cabin itself was very clean and everything was in perfect working order. It's a custom built home built in 1986 so the layout is great for just having 1600 sq ft but I will say that the furnishings are a little dated and the beds were kind of creaky and not comfortable. The living room layout is a bit on the smaller side and there was only one sofa that could seat only three of us. Since we were two families of four we had to use the dining room chairs but it was fine. The kitchen is nicely updated and had everything we needed. We even barbecued one night. It was great! The kids absolutely loved the ping pong table and foosball table in the garage. They did mention that the living room TV was kinda small... not a problem really since we didn't watch much TV during our stay.

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and like the location. The Greene's were very responsive when we had questions and were genuinely concerned with making sure our stay was enjoyable. That truly meant a lot and I would definitely rent this cabin again for our next trip back to Bass Lake.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review - we really appreciate your feedback. We will increase our seating capability - we are thinking that guests might like some bean bag seats for comfortable lounging. Also, we will address the beds - time for bed upgrades!

Clean and comfortable family lodging

  • 4 of 5

This is just what we were looking for - a clean and comfortable house to spend time in with our family. Everything was clean and in working order. The kitchen is updated and modern and had everything we needed to prepare and enjoy our meals. We really enjoyed the ping pong table!

Les was a great owner to deal with. He is super responsive and accommodating.

The ONLY thing missing was more sofa space for cuddling.

Owner's Response: Robin and Co were great renters. Thanks for the nice review. We’ve put a lot of TLC into our property over the last couple of years so we can be very accommodating to our guests. We’ll look into getting a small half-sofa to augment the full sofa in the living room. GR8 idea!

Very nice and cozy cabin!

  • 4 of 5

We loved the location of the cabin. It's near the lake and marina, plus it's just a few minutes from The Pines Village. Our family really enjoyed the Cabin, sun and snow!! My daughters were able to go on a nice run and my husband/boys a successful fishing day! While I enjoyed the view from the bedroom on the loft. Thanks to The Greene's for Sharing their cabin, My family truly appreciates the couple extra hours, since we were snowed in. God bless

Disappointing

  • 1 of 5

The place looks as if it has not been touched since 1974.

It's very dirty, the bathroom sinks still had toothpaste splattered on the tile.

Very very disappointing.

Owner's Response: We maintain our property the best we can. We feel it is great value for the price we charge. Sure, if you are expecting granite counters, gold fixtures, brand new appliances, etc, then expect to pay much much more. Over the past few years we've replaced all mattresses, installed laminent flooring on the main level, purchased a new flat screen TV, DirecTV, installed WIFI, electronic bolt on entry door, new drapes, new outside chairs.... We try to keep our costs down so we can keep our rates down. We've had rave reviews over the last 30 years of renting. This is one of the VERY FEW poor reviews we've ever had. We are new to VRBO, and hope in the future we have guests with better attitudes. January 2018 UPDATE: We've remodeled the kitchen: new stainless appliances, sink, granite counters. All new flat screen TVs in each bedroom (but bunk room) with streaming Blueray players. Living room has DirecTV capability. New flooring in all bathrooms, and laundry room/entry.
