About Everett Bedenbaugh

We are a retired couple who love adventure and people. Married for 39 years we honeymooned at Sugar Mountain, N.C. and learned to snow ski. And, we are still skiing! We live full time on a lake in South Carolina, and have fulfilled our dream of having a cool, quiet place in the Western North Carolina Mountains.

Everett Bedenbaugh purchased this house in 2007

Why Everett Bedenbaugh chose Lake Toxaway

We love hiking area parks, riding and picnicking on the Blue Ridge Parkway, all the great restaurants and friends we have discovered here and then come back to our Lake Toxaway home and sleep with the windows open at night while the cool mountain air drifts through the house. When we were house hunting, we wanted a home that was private but in a secure neighborhood where friends like to gather and really care for each other.

What makes this house unique

The very first time we came up the driveway, our eyes caught sight of the charming 'tree cutouts' on the shutters and the outdoor space ideal for gathering around a fire. Then inside the 'tree cutouts' were repeated on the staircase to the loft, the high ceilings and wood beams told us that a master carpenter had worked his magic here. It was important that we have plenty of room for family, friends and guests for entertaining both indoors and outdoors.

Just as advertised

  • 4 of 5

This cabin made a great Family Christmas Retreat. We cooked alot thanks to the fully stocked kitchen. We hiked the Whitewater Fall at Natanalia National Park. We also enjoyed binged watching Netflix. We did travel to Brevard for groceries and dinner one night at Sora. It was really good and reasonably priced. My parents enjoyed the waterfall just outside the door. We did have one slip down the driveway as it was a bit icy at night so the rest of us took the stairs down. Everything was just as advertised. The drive on Indian Lake Road was a bit worriesome at night and for those that get car sick easily.

Beautiful mountain getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The first thing you notice when you drive up the driveway is the beautiful landscaping including huge multiple varieties of hasta, lillies, hydrangia, rhodadendron, etc. The house is freshly painted outside and very nicely decorated inside. The kitchen is fully stocked and in fact there was a bottle of wine waiting for us. The beds are extremely comfortable and there is ample closet and bureau space. It is very quiet as you are deep in the only rain forest east of the Mississippi. The owners could not be more hospitable, responding quickly to our questions and offering many suggestions for things to do. We went tubing down the French Broad River and our grandchildren had a ball going down Sliding Rock. We picnicked in the Pisgah Forest, visited Whitewater Falls and hiked in Gorges State Park. In addition, we visited Cashiers and Brevard for lunch and shopping. When we were not exploring we were relaxing while reading, napping, playing board games and just plain talking. It was fantastic.

Beautiful home! Super clean!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in this beautiful home and didn't want to leave! Summer evenings were amazing with the doors open allowing the cool mountain breezes to blow through. Private location, but very easy mountain drive. Owners were super easy to deal with and keep the home stocked with everything needed for a comfortable stay.

Inviting comforts of home

  • 5 of 5

Lovely house with 2 decks, well appointed kitchen made family meals easy to prepare. Had everything we needed and was very welcoming. Plenty of room for 6 adults and more when younger generations, including toddlers, came for dinner. Bedrooms quiet, lots of stars at night which you can see from 2 of the beds. Hosts had several thoughtful touches and our stay was easy, comfortable. In warmer weather looks like some good walks to the nearby lake and the decks perfect for outdoor dining. Highly recommend a stay here!
