Guestbook comments from the owner

This cabin holds a special place in my heart. You see, my family built this cabin. By hand. Cutting down every single log. Sweat equity, or labor of love, they call it. It's been updated beautifully by the new owners, but I can still picture the cabin of my youth clearly. I spent my entire childhood, and some of my adult life at that cabin. The slanted ceilings upstairs, and reading by lantern light in the evenings. The 70s sports wallpaper in the children's room, reflecting the era the cabin was built. Fighting with my cousins over the pillow mattress, as it was so soft that you would simply sink down into it. During my childhood, there were so many trees around the cabin, that you couldn't see any neighbors at all. The light barely floated down from the trees, reflecting a soft green glow on the grounds. I saw another reviewer comment on seeing the neighbors. But the upside to less trees would be the view of the stars. They were brilliant up there when I was younger :) In my youth, we would come running back from the lake with a string full of trout, which my grandfather would cook on the grill for us. Hike the many trails, hunting for wild raspberries that my grandmother would make into jam. The grandfather clock on the stairs that would chime beautifully every hour. Walking over to the beaver ponds, hand in hand with my grandmother singing 'Give Said the Little Stream' . Watching for the Momma moose, who every year had twins. One time, nearly walking into her as I was walking with my own children. Us both frozen in fear, but letting each other pass with our wee ones, a mutual understanding that only a mother knows. Or sitting patiently under the hummingbird feeder until a hummingbird landed on our fingers. My grandmother loved the hummingbirds. She's the reason they flock there in droves. She enticed them in many years ago. I think her memory floats on their wings. Her failing health and their age was the reason for having to part with such a treasure. But I think of it often. Especially as it brought so much joy to my grandmother in particular. It's a place of immeasurable beauty. And my only hope is that it brings as much happiness to it's visitors, as it always did to all of us. Blessings.

Clean, fun, relaxing, beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time. The cabin was very comfortable, clean, and well stocked. We enjoyed the cool nights and great hikes close by. We did see moose, and deer right near the cabin. It's all as discribed in the adds. It's def off the the main roads and the traffic. I'd say it's a great Colorado experience. Thanks so much. We will come back. Probably in the winter next time! If it's available that is.

Great place to get away

  • 4 of 5

We (6 adults + 1 toddler) really enjoyed staying at this cabin. The four bedrooms allowed each party to have their own room and we really appreciated the toddler bed. The beds were all very comfortable and the kitchen was fully stocked and functional. There isn't a lot of common area inside the cabin as the living room/dining room combo area was pretty small for our party of 7, but would be sufficient for a smaller party; and we spent a lot of time outside, so it was only a bit of a problem in the mornings and late evenings when we were all inside together. The highlight of this place is the wildlife. We saw moose and deer every single day we were there - down the road, in the front yard, across the way - it was incredible! We also saw foxes and, plenty of hummingbirds and chipmunks by the cabin. And we enjoyed seeing elk and eagles around granby lake and grand lake. You're close enough to conveniently enjoy RMNP and the shops and restaurants and Grand Lake and Lake Granby, but far enough away to feel like you're escaping the hustle and bustle. The views from the front windows are awesome, and it's an easy walk to the lake and beach at the campgrounds. A wonderful vacation!

Monarch Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Monarch Cabin exceeded all expectations. This cozy, rustic cabin provided the rest and relaxation we desperately needed. The views of the surrounding mountains were simply breath-taking. Also, wildlife abounds, so every day offered an awesome new encounter with nature. We especially enjoyed watching a moose walk by the cabin in the early hours of the morning. Monarch Lake is simply stunning, a must see while visiting. The cabin itself was warm, cozy, and inviting and included everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

Amazing Weekend in the Rockies

  • 5 of 5

We loved our trip to Monarch Cabin. From the fox that would stop by each morning to the Moose that wondered by it was amazing. We caught the brilliant colors of the fall aspens which was incredible, We went fishing in Granby Lake, Grand Lake and Monarch Lake and caught rainbow trout, brown trout and lake trout. Best trip we have had in a long time.
