About Cathie Kobsa
We bought the cabin as our escape form the hustle and bustle of life in Atlanta. We have enjoyed every vacation we have taken to Suches ever since then. We have take countless friends and acquaintances with us over the years and we are always asked if we ever rent it. Because of the unique decor and beautiful furniture we held back from renting, but it's time to let others enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the mountains, the river and the relaxation we find so therapeutic. This is a place to relax and decompress.
Cathie Kobsa purchased this Cabin in 1993
Why Cathie Kobsa chose Suches
There are a lot of cabins in Blue Ridge that are big & elegant & have all of the amenities you can think of. Our cabin is unique, it is cozy and it is beautiful. The unique American Indian decor of our cabin was inspired by the movie Dances With Wolves, and the log furniture was build in Montana. Our cabin was designed to transport you to another world (one without stress, with out anxiety and without modern devices that keep you from spending time with each other); it was designed to help you slow down time; it was designed to keep you focused on nature (on the sound of the river, on the sound of the birds, on the sound of the wind, and the sound of the rustling of the leaves). It was designed to encourage you to talk and listen to each other, to listen to music (we prefer American Indian music), to read a book, to put together a puzzle, to play a table game, take a walk by the river, or spend hours fishing on our property. Most of all, our cabin was designed to be a getaway to the mountains to 'decompress'. And that is what everyone who has ever been there brags about. We hope you can have the same experience.
What makes this Cabin unique
You will fall in love with the open floor plan, the Indian wall decorations (most of which are Cherokee), and the privacy of the property. You will fall in love with the river which is perfect for summer swimming and fishing. And if you are lucky enough and there is a rain storm up there, you will see the sheets of rain pass by the covered front porch as if it were parading just for you. In the spring & summer you will fall in love with swimming in the river or canoeing to the swinging bridge (2 hr trip) or hiking part of the Appalachian Trail. At any given time you will see herds of deer and a occasional black bear, since the Blue Ridge mountains are their habitat. Suches is a paradise for the outdoors adventurer. From our cabin you can explore the Appalachian Trail (2 -3 miles away), Benton Mackay Trail, Duncan Ridge Trail, Cooper Creek Trail, Blood Mountain Archeological Area, Swinging Bridge, Sea Creek Falls, Cooper Creek Wildlife Management Area, and much more.

We spent a very nice 3day/2nt stay here. It was just what we were looking for! It is a quaint cabin situated right above the river. Nice big porch and patio overlooking the river. An outdoor firepit to enjoy the cool evenings, a well equipped kitchen if you want to prepare meals. And plenty of space to just chill. If you want to “unplug” and unwind for a few days, this is the place!
The cabin is only about 14 mile from the quaint town of Blue Ridge, if you want to get a “people fix” with plenty of excellent eating places available. Also many hiking trails nearby with waterfalls and a lake all within 12 miles. A great retreat!
Thank you visiting our cabin. We love hearing our quests’ experiences and how much they enjoyed their stay. We hope to have you stay at River Sound again soon.
We loved the privacy of this house. It is tacked in the woods and you cannot hear or see anyone else around if you do not want to. It rained a lot while we were up there but we enjoyed the coziness of the fire and snuggling with our blankets on the porch listening to the river. The place is clean, well decorated and plenty of amenities (liked the crock pot, which we used). There was a bottle of wine and crackers waiting for us there, that was a nice touch. We will be back this summer for sure. We want to go rafting on the river.
Peaceful and relaxing...
If you need to get away from the everyday hustle this is the perfect place. Me and my family of 4 came up knowing we would have no cell service or tv. We have two teenagers and they loved it also. It was beautiful and peaceful. We loved the cabin and it’s decor. And we took advantage of the beautiful river. We fished and sat out on the porch all day and evening. We also had a sweet surprise from the owner! A lovely welcome package!
Thank you for staying at our cabin. I’m glad you enjoyed the peacefulness of the woods and the tranquility of the river. Sometimes it is good to disconnect from the world of electronics and allow nature to decompress us. We look forward to your future visits!
Not easy access to river
So the down side was the steps to to river were risky. The dock over the river had a keep off sign. The steps were very long and they were not secure. There was no yard space for kids to play. Small kitchen w very little counter space.
The good part was lots of towels and blankets. Cute decor (but lots of breakables).
Overall this cabin would b good for a couple or small family whom plans to do a lot on their trip. If you want easy river access and lots of yard for outdoor relaxation....I would look elsewhere.
Dana, our cabin is not set up for infants and toddlers. I would have told you that if you had disclosed the fact that you were taking such young ones up there. The pictures we have posted of the outside of the cabin clearly shows that there are plenty of steps to the river from the house, but they also show an easement road that you can drive to right to the river. Thank you for taking the time to give me feedback on your stay.
rustic remote cabin with stairs to the beautiful river
our stay was nice and quiet. very relaxing and perfectly decorated. driveway getting into the property is not conducive for cars. 4 wheel drive almost required as loose gravel burned out tires trying to climb hill. everything in working order and river was close. close to trails and local scenic sites. Rustic and remote.
Averyl, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at River Sound. The road to the cabin is unusually rough due to the heavy rains we have experienced this season. The neighborhood is working on smoothing the short drive up the mountain. Thank you for the feedback.
We rent cabins in Blue Ridge every year. This cabin was everything they advertised it to be. It made us feel like we were in another time period. The location was secluded but not so much in the woods that you felt isolated. The place was clean and spacious for 5 of us. The river and the hiking were the great and we loved the wine and desert that welcomed us with. Thank you for allowing us to stay at your beautifull cabin,. We will be black for sure.
